Ok but horrible ending.

Warning: Spoilers
So although predictable and not particularly original, i can appreciare what the filmmakers where trying to do. Drawing heavily from 80's movies (I feel most heavily from "Risky Business".... the way a lot of scenes were shot, the use of narrative voiceover, and the fake Tangerine Dream soundtrack) the first 90% was enjoyable enough. But then clearly they had no idea how to end it, and so the last part is completely incongruent with the rest of the movie and basically ruins everything up to that point. Do yourself a favor, stop the movie at the scene near the end where they are searching the house across the street, and write your own ending in your mind...it will be better than the actual ending (in my ending, the neighbor just disappears and I throw shade on the love interest to make you wonder if they got the real killer).

Painful waster of time.

Warning: Spoilers
Boring and disjointed. Why is this sometimes billed as a comedy? My guess is because the makers knew it sucked, but figured OK Kristin Bell, maybe we can leverage goodwill from folks who like Saving Sarah Marshall and con them into seeing it. Uneven tone, tries periodically to be quirky. You won't care about or believe these characters. The scene where she stands up to the police because they are harassing the teens for skating is one of the most hackneyed things put to film in the last 10 years.

Spoiler alert: this movie stinks on ice, but it will put you to sleep faster than a sominex chased with some NyQuil.

Boring and unbelievable

After wanting to see this in the theaters (where it was well reviewed) I finally caught it on DVD. A lot of what I have to say has already been stated by other reviewers...actors too old, flat performances, not an accurate depiction of college jock life, a lot of it feels really rehashed from dazed and confused. But I felt compelled to address the one thing that other reviewers said they liked...the music. I can tell you why folks liked the music...it was portrayed inaccurately for this demographic and this period. Texas jocks were not into devo or Elvis Costello in 1980. They were more likely still listening to Uriah Heep or Bad Company at this point (and I am not hating on Bad Company....just find it inaccurate the type of music jocks who grew up in the 70's would be listening to. Not recommend unless sominex is not doing the trick for you.
