Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (2019)
Beautiful cinematography, horrible plot.
I loved Call me by your name, which has slow moving plot, and is very artsy, watched it more than once and was not bored for a second. In fact, I prefer artsy movies to action and drama packed ones. And as a part of the lgbtq+ community, I have watched numerous movies exploring this theme. But i really didn't like this movie.
Although the scenery and shots are without a doubt beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, the plot, acting and script are just empty. Even if you watch a movie you hate, at the end you are filled with opinions and emotions about it, but this movie was in my opinion so bland, I forgot about it 15 minutes after having finished it.
Their relationship is simply not believable, which is why I had experienced a lack of feeling and empathy during the whole movie, as well as total apathy towards how it will end. Someone in another review very accurately said that it seems that because of the extent to which every scene was so thoroughly thought out, in result, it made everything seem unauthentic and untrue. The script didn't keep my attention and it didn't make me stop to think about the meaning, like many other "artsy" movies have succeeded to do.
My final impression was that I have no impression at all, as it simply didn't touch me enough to have any kind of strong feeling toward it, either positive or negative. There are many other movies out there which do a beautiful job of exploring love in a sublime way.
Posledice (2018)
Severe reality
The movie portrays the severe and brutal reality of the still very present mindset in the Balkans, which includes toxic masculinity, delinquency, drug-abuse and homophobia, and which can have especially dark consequences for LGBTQ+ youth in these countries. Heartbreaking, heavy and at times very hard to watch, but unfortunately a story which is real life for many young adults.
Eat Pray Love (2010)
It's messy or unfair or confusing sometimes, but guess what - that's LIFE.
I don't understand the negative reviews. People are judging the main character (or even Julia Roberts, even though she is not her character, she's only playing it) for the things she does, for making selfish decisions etc. And even though some of the things can be looked at this way, nobody is perfect. Every one of us, no matter how hard we tried, sometimes made a mistake or a bad decision or even hurt someone, even if it was unwillingly. That is just life. That's why I think this movie is simple and honest. The character that Julia plays is messy, but I think that's authentic. The movies is simply the adventure of a woman, or in other words/ just life.
This movie will calm you down if you feel overwhelmed with decisions, other people's opinions and expectations of you, and your expectations of yourself. Life is a journey and if something is not right - you have to do something about it, change something, and allow yourself to change for the better. That's what I take out of this movie, and I think that's quite enough to say this is a very nice movie.
Berlin, I Love You (2019)
Not bad but could be better.
Some of the parts of the movie were very good and showed nice stories which gave hope, showed dreams, and possibilities in life, which was great, but others seemed to have no meaning or were just weird or both, which influenced my overall impression of this movie.
I agree that Berlin wasn't shown in its true colours, as I've been to Berlin many times, and even though it was shown in a tourist light, it still seemed a bit off, in my opinion. Berlin has so much history, as it is a city which literally rose from its ashes after WW2, so as a result it's now a city where history and the modern world collide. Also, it is a haven for many people from all around the world who seek a better life, which is why Berlin is full of people from many different countries, cultures etc, so it is also a place where Germany and the rest of the world meet, making this city very unique. The main reason for my disappointment is because this could've been a perfect opportunity to explore this, or what I think Berlin truly is.
Overall, I feel like this movie could've been so much more. The problem is not that it needs from its audience to have imagination - that's what makes it beautiful, but it would be so much better if each story was better carried out so that each has a point and that each contributes to the whole. Anyway, i still think you can find some beautiful bits and that it's watchable.
