Overall I think the story, Glenn Close and Mila Kunis did justice to the insanity of addiction. Excellent ! Bravo! For portraying this life... of course there are many small things which were exaggerated, and others under-emphasized but to do it in a period an hour and a half is great! For those dwelling on the ending ...how do you want it to end ? .... they didn't have her dropping dead after relapsing and or going into the sunset with the kids ..... which we all know both two scenarios can and do happen ......give them a break! They loved it to your own choosing. Fabulous job of pulling emotions and telling a great story.... everything a movie should do!

I start by saying the film landscape shooting was beautiful but over used. Character build was OK but left may questions on lesser characters. IMHO I think this movie explores the deeper genetic trait of mental illness - BPD in particular. Fear of abandonment, "I hate you don't leave me", sex addition, self mutilation (Nicole in desert), drug use (Nicole led trip with Bernie). This is a genetic trait which is referred (by dad) to that the daughter got from here mom. The daughter getting ganged up on at 15 felt no other way out and when a random car offered her a ride, she took it (probably from some who showed her a little affection) it doesn't take much with Borderline girls. The pain, struggles, resentment, fighting, breaking up the family is so typical of this... I guess I liked it because I (and ex-mom) could relate to the struggles when our 15 year old would take off in Detroit and I would search crack house, fight, carry weapons to hurt, threaten do what ever it took to find my daughter for several years. It's unbelievable where the mind goes when you are living this. Nicole and dad made me relive it well. Just goes to show a totally different scenario, half way around the world can bring emotions that happened so long ago. A movie that can move you is worth every penny. A little long at end, I would up cut a few ...but I think it ends the daughter is alive and well and living with some loser that she feels she deserves. And no the mom and dad had nothing to do with it ...only genetics and decisions on the daughters part to not get help. ( PS - I'm not a psychologist, just a Dad who lived it.
