Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Really Boring
Unlike a lot of other reviewers here, I liked part one. Exploring other planets and their cultures, getting to see cool costumes and creature effects is my jam and part one did that well. I also liked the promising storyline, and while action is not my favorite genre, I thought it was just enough to be relevant to the plot. This movie (part 2) was all action from the opening scene to the end and it felt incredibly tedious to me. Where's the rest of the story? Where's the rest of the world building? 5 minutes delving into the heroes stories was not sufficient. Did we have to stay on Veldt for the ENTIRE film? Boring. I also felt like the reasoning behind the revolt of the King was a cop out. I agree with others about the slow motion effects being used too often, it was unnecessary. And the "crew" vibes needed to be fleshed out more. Better dialogue could have gone a long way in making this more successful. I'm giving it a 4 still because I liked the actors and appreciate their hard work.
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
I liked this one more than the first
It's rare that I say I prefer the sequel to almost any movie, but l'm a big time "true" fantasy lover, and CGI is fun and imaginative if it's done well and the story and acting is good; which, I thought it was for being a lighthearted Christmas film. The first one was less "fantastical", basically just a giant goose chase...Which is why I prefer this one. I like getting to see where the lore of things originates and there's plenty of that here. The Elves are cute, the story was sentimental, and Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn make fantastic Mr. And Mrs. Claus characters. I also appreciated all of the Scandinavian touches to the film, like the Yule Cat.
Slumberland (2022)
I Thought This Would Be More Like The Anime
I understand that this was pulled from the comic strip original, but as someone who grew up watching "Little Nemo" the cartoon, I was SUPER disappointed that this was not really a live action adaptation of that. It's its own story which borrows names like Flip, Nemo, etc. But nothing is the same otherwise, which to me, was a big let down. I felt like it was a little bit boring returning to the same places over and over again. It also had a really lonely undertone to it which bummed me out. I don't feel like it should have been called Slumberland AT ALL. Let me know when someone makes a live action of Little Nemo.
Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Bad Writing & Storyline, Boring with No Magic
The actors were about as fine as I expected them to be. The issues were with whomever wrote/directed this disaster of a remake. The mermaids were my favorite part of the original - I think they were "in this" for all of 10 seconds. Also, Peter Pan is a notorious flirt & wild boy. There was none of that in this. In the OG, Tink starts off as jealous of Wendy but grows to like her, they also removed this because "woman power" I guess. This is so PC you might as well have not even bothered to make it. Removing conflict is dumb. It IMMEDIATELY goes into conflict with the pirates as soon as they get to Neverland. Peter says to Wendy at one point "I thought you'd like it here" and I thought to myself, why would she? There's nothing good happening in this place. No play, no magic, no games...Just a war with old pirates. Of course she would want to get back home ASAP. Secondly, if you wanted a background story about Hook/Peter Pan, that's fine, but it might have been nice to see flashbacks of them rather than just talking briefly about it? ALSO - Hook was forced back to earth to find his mom, how'd he get back to Neverland w/ a crew? Did he also have a fairy to fly the whole ship? (Plot hole). This was a perfect opportunity to show off unique Cree Nation culture at Tiger Lily's part of the island and again, it was shown for all of 5 seconds. If there was ever a movie you should use your CGI magic in, it would have been this. You've done a great job of stripping the whole thing of anything fun, so that's cool I guess. I should have turned it off 15 minutes in.
Ad Vitam (2018)
Meh
Interesting concept, but it just drags on and on without too much happening in the process.
Locke & Key (2020)
I love it! Can't wait for more!
Its just true, classic fantasy genre. It's not overly complicated, to me it's a fun easy watch and it held my attention the entire time. I'm excited to see where they go with it.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
Cringeworthy voice acting and script writing
Couldn't even get through the first episode. Animation looked nice enough, and opening premise of plot seemed intriguing enough, but seems kind of low budget otherwise.
Swiss Army Man (2016)
Nope.
As soon as he started using him and his flatulence as a motor to get across the sea, I was out. Not my taste, not my humor. Couldn't get into it.
