Alienated (2021)
Captivating
This is a charming story that keeps your attention. Gracie Lacy was captivating, showing a talent that I hope to see again. The movie dances around a minimal budget to deliver an enjoyable experience.
Pirates (2005)
Good Porn?
I had not watched a porn movie in years. However I got a copy of Pirates and sat down with my wife. Although it was not the equivalent of a major studio productions and Disney Studios has no reason to fear competition from a few miles away in the Valley, production values were certainly the best I have seen in a movie of this genre. It's come a long way since the Mitchell Brothers in the 70's.
First there is a plot. There is a script. There is some acting. There is a fun score. There a plenty of nonsexual scenes. There are even some special effects with the pirate hunters fighting skeletons. The only things clearly artificial were the breasts, but then again what do you expect?
I particularly liked performance of Evan Stone ... and I mean the ones with his clothes on. He was fun and showed he has the talent to cross 0ver into mainstream media. Jesse Jane is gorgeous, but maybe the weakest acting. Janine was the hot pirate babe both in and out of her costume. She stole several scenes.
Safe at Home! (1962)
Great nostalgia!
Okay, the plot is lame and the acting two dimensional. But forty-three years after the making I look back on this film with great fondness.
"Micky Mantle ----- Roger Maris!" Yankees spring training is back in Fort Lauderdale. A young boy runs off to chase his dream. There are the obligatory lessons in life. But wait! This is the New York Yankees at the height of their glory in the early 60's. Roger Maris is the home run king. Mickey Mantle draws electricity every time he steps to the plate. There are no steroids, strikes and lockouts, arrests and other distractions. This was back when baseball was the national pastime and fun!
The Wicked Die Slow (1968)
Just plain awful
I saw this movie when it first came out in was known as a "Pussycat Theater." It would probably be R rated today. The movie was devoid of art with a hint of story. I recall one scene where a barmaid is shot in her breast. I'm not sure why she was shot or why I recall it, but over 35 years later it's still disturbing.
Of course, there is gratuitous violence, gratuitous nudity, and gratuitous bad language. Briefly the plot begins to hold interest when the two main characters save a poor traveler and his daughter from bad guys. But then the traveler gives our "heros" the only thing he has of value .... his daughter. The scene reflects on the total pointlessness of the movie.
