Must Love Dogs (2005)
Absolutely awful
I get a lot of free tickets to movies, so I quite happily go to movies which I know will be bad. For instance, I recently went to see Stealth, he he. Badddd - but Josh Lucas has a dynamite smile. Anyway, so I went to see Must Love Dogs, and still thought it would be OK because John Cusack is a very charismatic actor, and Diane Lane is quite appealing. Man. I. Was. So. Wrong. This movie was awful. I have never seen a movie that was so utterly desperate to be cute and lovable, from the requisite gay friends to the animals, to the annoying yet 'lovable' family members. URGH. And I really hated seeing a fine actress like Stockard Channing play a nutty, in-denial, hairspray up-to-here, desperate woman who puts up with her man's roving eye 'cause he's 'worth it.'
But what really got my goat was Diane Lane's character. She was utterly and totally boring. There was nothing about her that was at all interesting, apart from her plunging necklines and perfectly tousled hair. She goes to bed with this one guy, who promptly loses interest and frankly, I'm not surprised. Completely one-dimensional. And please, why is it that Hollywood women are always so bloody desperate if they don't have a man in their lives??? Pathetic!!!!!
Guess that's it..... better stop before i blow a blood vessel.
War of the Worlds (2005)
insanely stupid
I heard this was pretty good, but it was so insanely stupid. Cardboard characters, nonsensical action (people running towards battle with the aliens). Dumb, dumb, dumb! And Dakota Fanning is so annoying. Who would've thought that you could be an overexposed actor at ten. I will say that the special effects are good, but that's about it. And Miranda Otto is so wasted as the wife. And I hated the ending, how her neighbourhood was miraculously left intact when the rest of the bloody world is wiped out. It's not often that a film gets me so annoyed, but I can't help it, esp when you're dealing with science fiction. For something that's imaginary to work, it must be believable. Sigh...
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Absolutely the best Bond film
This is my favourite Bond film and, in my opinion, represents the perfect Bond formula. 1. Spy vs. Spy with the classic opponent - Russia 2. Fab theme song 3.Good character plot: agent XXX has a personal vendetta against Bond 4.Introduction of Jaws!! Yay! 5. Great, sinister baddie with cool 'take over the world' plot 6. Good chemistry between Bond and Bach 7.Excellent use of Bach's 'Air on the G string' piece 8. Great gadgets -underwater car, etc. 9. Barbara Bach looks great - esp in slinky dress. 10. Great exotic location: Egypt. I hope that the new Bond films - which are really sad - will pick up the flair and panache of the earlier ones like Spy and also Moonraker. Enjoy!
