Zona dla Australijczyka (1964)
MAGNIFICENT !! What a great surprise for Mazowsze fans !
This romantic screwball comedy in the tradition of Preston Sturges finds an Australian falling in love with a singer from the Polish Folk Dance troupe, Mazowsze. Then, mistakenly believing that she would find it romantic to be kidnapped, does just that.
The soundtrack of Mazowsze (Tadeusz Sygietinski) music fits the moods so well, but it is the actual performances by Mazowsze (on stage, on TV, at a reception, and finally on the cruise ship to Australia) that is just Magnificent !!!
I just saw Mazowsze perform in the U.S. a couple of months ago, and they are just fantastic !!! Colorful costumes, beautiful women, handsome men, incredible choreography, music, and talent !!!
This is now my favorite film of all time !!
Sideways (2004)
Booooring !!
Even though I used to be a tour guide at a winery, I was so bored with this film.
It was a big waste of time. It wasn't funny, and it did not make any sense.
The main guy was so unappealing that I did not understand why any woman would be attracted to him.
As for the actor who plays Jack, he acts the same in everything. He was exactly the same when he was in the TV show, Wings, and when you see him in person, he talks and acts the same. Therefore, that is not "acting", it's just being himself.
I prefer actors who are completely different in every role they play. That is what made Olivier great. There are few actors like that these days.
But I digress. The bottom line is this movie goes nowhere and does nothing but waste time.
I think I laughed once, otherwise I was annoyed that I spent money to see this film.
Million Dollar Baby (2004)
Awful!
I felt like I was watching the Jerry Springer show. Low class people, doing stupid things.
Why can't there be more movies that are beautiful and uplifting???
Instead we get gritty trash like this. If I wanted to look at dirty floors and walls I could have stayed home, or watched the news on television or programs like Cops.
This was a waste of money. The only reason this was nominated for awards is because of Clint Eastwood. However, I think he should stick to making Westerns.
I used to be a fan of his, but he has not done anything worth seeing in recent years.
Also the girl, Hillary Swank, seems to act the same in every movie she is in.
I do not recommend this film at all, but if you must watch it because of it's award status, then wait to see it on the small screen (your TV set), it would be a lot easier to take.
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
it is an OPERA, not a typical musical!
What a magnificent film !! Obviously the Hollywood critics who panned it are not cultured enough to have seen any Operas!
Phantom of the Opera is in class by itself. And I mean Class !!! Breathtakingly beautiful, hauntingly romantic, perfectly cast (especially the delicious Gerard Butler and the talented Emmy Rossum, who burn up the screen with their tortured love.)
Musicals are annoying, but this is not really a musical film, it is indeed an opera..sung throughout with only a few lines of dialogue. The cinematography is simply gorgeous. The editing done in a way to complement the opera.
Those not intelligent enough to follow a story in the manner of an opera are the ones who have complained, and to them I say: "Keep your hand at the level of your eye."
