The Lion King (2019)
Stunning to watch but that's all
I really wanted to love this film, from the moment it was announced I have been so excited to see it, counting down the days.
But it was a massive let down. Visually it's absolutely incredible, the art/vfx team did a fantastic job. But the script and direction was terrible. They butchered the first two big musical numbers and the extra dialogue gave unnecessary exposition.
There are some parts of the dialogue that don't even make sense with how it's been shot now, like scars opening lines. And scars delivery overall changed the whole personality of the characters for the worse, same goes for rafiki.
There are so many classic lines from the original that even to this day I recite with friends for a laugh, but these have all been destroyed and replace with very forgettable dialogue delivery.
Overall, there were about 4 moments that I thought they did a great job with, but was frustrated and even bored throughout the rest of the film. I'm not even worried that it was almost a shot for shot replica, I actually wish that they kept it closer because everything new, had a negative effect on the story.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
It was what I expected, but that's all.
The movie was great, there's no doubt about it, but that was it. Coming off the shock value that Infinity War brought meant that nothing in this film surprised me, actually there really wasn't any surprises- everything was just as you'd expect it, which was slightly disappointing in itself. I remember after infinity war, people in the cinema were speechless, crying, sobbing, hugging each other - there was nothing like that here. I wish there were more surprises. It was also a little slow overall but at the same time a good celebration of the last 11 years.
Gallipoli (2015)
Didn't hook me
I really wanted to enjoy this show but I couldn't get past the uninteresting cinematography, editing and unconvincing acting. It almost felt lazy, like it was too much effort to set up and film more shots for each scene.
I really did not feel like the cast were in any danger in the battle scenes. I can imagine that the real soldiers would have been constantly wondering if they would be the next to take a shot every time a gun fired - I didn't feel any of that at all. I wanted to be on the edge of my seat and to only have a break from the intensity during the flash backs. Maybe my expectations were too high.
I also couldn't not see playschool every time I saw the mum.
Hopefully the future episodes will be better, buts it's a shame that the first episode didn't give me much to look forward to.
