The Postcard Bandit (2003)
Good Effort
Having been there at the time when this all went down it's not a bad depiction for the small budget they had. My only gripe is WA police officers wearing NSW flashes on their shirts. Other than that it's an enjoyable watch.
Dark Waters (2019)
A ten because of the important content
If an individual did what DuPont did and does then they'd be locked up for 1000 years. But it seems corporations slip into a zone where they are like fictional characters and everything they do is not real.
It's a good movie on an important subject.
The War of the Worlds (2019)
Lots of Looking and little action.
You know this is bad and they try and fill out the 3hrs with lots of looking. Here comes a giant alien monster so why don't we all just stand there and look for a few minutes like the director told us to do.
It was a relief when it ended.
Magnolia (1999)
Tries to be something
This movie tries hard to be something. But it falls flat. They Even tried to flesh out the story with the 3hr running time but when you look at it it's just a jumble of characters with very thin plots. No wonder it took me 20yrs to pluck up the courage to see it. The link between the characters is pretty tenuous and really is unremarkable.
Yesterday (2019)
This went down with the Yellow Submarine. Help!
Watchable movie with great music in it but it falls flat. It builds a decent story and then cops out at the end. It was like let's not offend the Beatles Corp. and just kiss arse in the end. It's Basically an Ad for the Beatles music disguised as a movie.
I gave it a 6 because the music is enough to stop you walking out.
Instant Family (2018)
Better than I expected
I thought this would be a lame family movie that's been done to death. But they have enough emotional grunt to push it beyond that and hook you into the movie.
With a sensitive subject it's hard to sell it without being too heavy and the viewer losing interest. but they had just enough humour to balance it out.
Worth a watch.
The Favourite (2018)
Bland
Out of all the movies I've seen. This is one of them.
I'm sure there was a story in there somewhere. I just couldn't find it.
Sharp Objects (2018)
Too Slow And Too Slow
It's like waiting at a red light when the lights are broken. You ain't going nowhere. Four episodes in and nothing has happened except a lot of glances and the Mother being a pain in the butt. I'll reserve full condemnation until i've seen it all.
Conquering Northern China (2017)
Looks Great but light on content.
Great footage of NC but it seemed light on content and not a lot of interaction with the locals. I was waiting for something to happen. Even at the border with North Korea they just stood on the other side and said "Look there's North Korea" Then got scared and road off.No talking to the locals or anything interesting.
Overall it's probably a 2 hr doco for a Saturday afternoon.
Mother! (2017)
Like a bad toothache that won't go away.
Take a movie that repeats the same scene over and over and over then had no conclusion (or a vague conclusion) and you have Mother! Go hit your head with a hammer it's more fun.
