Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (1998)
Underrated
This is one of the most underrated sitcoms ever. Ryan Reynolds is a comedy genius. It has Nathan "Cpt Mal Reynolds" Fillion in it. The story lines are interesting, like the characters, and the comedy is intelligent.
The way Pete and Berg play off one another, and the relationship that they have is brilliant. My room mate and I have taped the series' off Trouble, and not a week goes by when we don't watch it.
Every episode makes me laugh. Deserved at least a 5th season, but i guess thats how the idiot networks do things these days.
I don't really need to plug it anymore, as it does that itself. Watch it, and you'll see what I mean.
24 (2001)
Phenomenal Television
A federal agent for the LA Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) named Jack Bauer is called in to the office at midnight on the day of the California Presidential Primary. He and his team are informed that an assassination attempt will be made on presidential candidate, senator David Palmer, in the next 24 hours. It is their job to prevent this from happening, whilst trying to flush out a mole within the agency.
Meanwhile Jack's teenage daughter Kimberley sneaks out of the house with a friend, and with Jack at work, his wife Teri must try to locate Kimberley whos night of partying has suddenly turned into a struggle for her very survival...
Almost flawless television. With all 24 episodes of a season being an hour long, and covering one day, 24's precedent setting concept has becoming the stuff of legends. One of the most successful shows the US has produced, and phenomenally successful in the UK.
If no one has seen this yet i urge you to buy/rent/borrow season 1, sit down, and give it about 6 episodes. You will be hooked. This show has everything: drama, tragedy, romance, some comedic elements, and the plot twists are unbelievable! The first season finale contains one of the best plot twists i have ever seen on television. EVER.
So whether you are watching for the 1st time, or the 101st time, I urge you, get a copy of season 1, put it in your DVD player, take the phone off the hook, pull up a chair, and watch (in awe)...
...for the next 24 hours, welcome to the life of Jack Bauer.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
Almost flawless!!
Sophomore Buffy Summers moves to Sunnydale with her mother in order to make a fresh start, after being kicked out of her old school, but can't escape her destiny as the slayer, because Sunnydale happens to be at the mouth of hell...
And so begins a landmark in television history. Buffy is one of the greatest TV shows ever created (with the possible exception of 24, obviously). The story lines are great, the writing, and directing is superb, and the acting (for the most part) is great too. What sets Buffy apart from most other TV shows is that it contains elements from possibly every genre imaginable; horror, action, comedy, romance, tragedy etc and turns them all into metaphors for Buffy to fight.
This is a show about people, and the choices they make. Because of this it is a show that we can all relate to, I know I did, and it is a joy to watch. Trust me on this, any episode of Buffy is better than the majority of theatrical features that you see at the cinema. This is a must-see show, and I defy anyone to watch the first 2 or 3 seasons and not get hooked. Obviously there are a couple of bad apples, with seasons 4 and 6 being weaker than the other 5, however that is the only negative thing I can find to say about the seminal piece of television. It's beyond belief how this show didn't win an Emmy, but don't let that fool you, its never too late to begin your Buffy journey.
Almost flawless.
