Stalker (2014)
A little underwhelmed
It's not bad at all. In fact there are moments when you are hooked, but those moments don't last very long.
Every year late summer time, I read all about the new shows, and this was the one that striked me as "must must must watch!". The premise is good, and it has/had a lot of potential but just get the feeling that the show has underachieved.
There are no characters that are likable, to be honest. If any of them got killed off in the next episode, I wouldn't give two hoots. That is one area where it falls apart.
It also feels a bit too much like a Criminal Minds spin-off, and not really any better than the spin-off that got cancelled after a dozen episodes or so. I half expect Spencer to come strolling into the office at some point, but not been that lucky, as of yet.
I'll keep watching for a little while to see what the secret is all about, but truth be told, I wouldn't be surprised to see this cancelled before the season is out.
Under the Dome (2013)
The New Lost? Not quite...
It all starts so well with an amazing pilot.
I watched the Pilot without knowing too much about it at all, and was completely blown away! I was instantly Hooked. With a capital H. Hooked! Truly brilliant Pilot, and one that got my very excited!
That Pilot's momentum carried the show forward for a few episodes but gradually things moved along slowly and it got a little inane in places.
A fine show, though, but get the feeling that it had so much potential, it fell somewhat short.
It's not alone there. Heroes, too, had a tremendous pilot, but it faded into the "Blah" territory by season 2. Hopefully "Under The Dome" can save itself in Season 2. (I write this just as Season 1 has completed in "my world".)
I see no reason why it can't. The backbone to the story is great. Lots of mysteries regarding the characters, and it has an excellent cast. I'm of course biased given the stunning Britt Robertson and equally stunning Rachelle Lefevre both have staring roles. It also has Dean Norris, who is excellent as always, but clearly a little less stunning.
It's a show that deals with many of the same themes as Lost, along with having bit of a Jericho vibe going on. It even has Jeff Fahey in it, too! There are several similarities between the Dome and the Island. But whereas Lost went from strength to strength, Under The Dome goes a bit downhill as the season progresses.
Not quite The New Lost, but it's still excellent in some places, and is definitely worth a look if you enjoy mystery/sci-fi/thrillers. Just remember to bring an open-mind when you watch the show - it may be needed.
Mystery Girls (2014)
Awful doesn't even cut it
It's almost a shame you can't give this show a minus rating. If any shows deserves such a rating, it is this one!
The only mystery about this show is how on earth it got picked up in the first place. It's almost like something 2 friends will come up with on a Saturday night on the sofa whilst drunk.
I tend to give most pilots a fair shot. I will watch them all the way through before figuring out if this is for me or not, but I just couldn't get past the halfway stage on this one. It is quite simply one of the worst "comedies" I have ever witnessed.
I don't think even think it can be classed as a comedy, as it's simply not remotely funny. I don't really know what it is. Other than a complete waste of space.
Please do yourself a favour; AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Son (2012)
Excellent but a little confusing
Being completely new to Turkish TV, I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but within an episode of watching "Son" (The End), I was hooked!
Being mostly used to US and UK shows, Son has a very different "feel". It's a psychological thriller but the camera work and few other things has almost a soap opera feel to it. It's not a bad thing, just a little different to what I have been used to.
It is written well, a cliffhanger at the end of pretty much every episode (similar to The Killing in that sense), has some really intriguing characters, has brilliant emotive music, but the show is a bit confusing in places, probably not helped by Netflix's dodgy translations.
It is the sort of show that really requires your undivided attention. There's a lot of flashbacks, especially in the early episodes, which will make little sense to the casual viewer. And even if you do give the show your full attention, you still may not fully understand it! Why anyone would leave the absolutely stunning Nehir Erdogan (Aylin) is beyond me!
But if you can give the show your undivided attention, you will be rewarded with hours of excellent television.
