Die Diebin & der General (2005)
Help Germany get better actors!
Die Diebin und der General is the touching attempt to make a touching movie.
Well, honestly, it failed.
Energetic Jessie Fisher is a woman under pressure. With no money at hand she has to take care of her young son. There is hardly any job she can keep for more than a few weeks. One day, she pinches a glass of prawns at the local grocery store where she works. She gets busted and is convicted to work in a home for the elderly, where she meet the General, a grumpy old man, who turns out to have been betrayed by his own son. Jessie manages to tame the ill tempered old man and helps him to get his property back from his son.
So far so good. I do not want to comment on the story (and the unsatisfying conclusion), but one obvious thing can't be left unspoken: The acting is terrible. Come on, guys, while Katja Riemann is somehow acceptable, the rest of the cast is a joke.
Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)
Sid for president!
Well, it is certainly not the story that makes me love Ice Age:The Meltdown. It is pretty simple and foreseeable: The Ice Age family has found a refuge in a valley. Now, with the ice walls of the valley slowly melting down, it is only a question of a few days before the water of the surrounding sea floods the valley.
As I said, its not the story. It is the characters!
And characters they are. I've hardly seen such funny and well written dialogs. The German version is just amazing, kudos to Otto Waalkes, who did a perfect job on Sid's voice, better than the original (no offense!).
I can only recommend this movie for anyone looking for a good laugh.
