Arrival (2016)
Unexpected Brilliance
First off, the sound design is absolutely fantastic. The sounds and noises the "aliens" make are unlike anything I've heard before and perfectly represent the unknown beings in this movie.
I barely saw any trailers for this but it peaked my interest due to the directors credits and science fiction. Going into this movie with no expectations will make you ponder life as we know it, considering time and how different the time we know is to those of say an "alien race".
The cinematography is great as well as a complex story that will make you think. People saying this movie is slow may have a point but if you love cinema you'll find it beautiful and eye opening to our simple concept of life.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Watched it two days in a row, might watch it again today
When I finished the first watch I sat in awe and confusion for 15-20 mins thinking about life. Movies, such as Donnie Darko, that are fascinating and make you really think about life and ponder how to live are why film making is an art form. The fact that the ending is open to interpretation is a key to making it as good as it is. After doing research I see that the story is about multiple dimensions but if you look at it from a different point of view it could be about a kid trying to find his purpose in life or anything else you can think of.
The acting is great, story is fascinating and the mental health aspect really hits home for anyone watching.
Ghost of Tsushima (2020)
The best story I've experienced
Originally I thought that god of war would not be topped in but honestly the ending of the story had tears running down my cheeks. I typically like to skip cut scenes and the fact that you can't helps you engross yourself in the story. I felt attached to every character in some way but my favorite was Kenji even only for the little we interacted with him. The only issue I had with ghost is the camera. It was very clunky and just felt sort of off at times and would face the wrong way instead of locking onto enemies. Other than that the graphics, the scenery, the map, the characters, the combat (a chefs kiss), and the story make for one of the best single player experiences of all time.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
just awful
I wanted to stop watching in the first 20 mins but decided to continue and god I wish I stopped. The whole movie seems like its a parody or a fan made youtube video. I have no idea how a writer who worked on all 3 previous movies directed such a horrible 4th.
Midsommar (2019)
Expected more
This was definitely an interesting movie but watching it now in June of 2021 after hearing so much buzz around how gory and disturbing it is I just didn't see all the hype. For most of the movie there was an eerie tone which I found was what made the film great along with the acting which was fantastic.
Hotel Artemis (2018)
Awesome concept
Personally I think this movie is great. The concept is very unique and the way they executed it was good but not great. Still very much enjoyable to watch.
Far Cry New Dawn (2019)
Far cry junkie
First off, far cry is my favorite series I love all the games so this might be bias. That being said I throughly enjoyed this expansion for far cry 5. I personally enjoyed the story more than I did for far cry 5 I thought the 2 crazy sisters were very interesting. Of course there is always far cry glitches and things that are annoying but overall I really liked the game.
