Obliterated (2023)
Unsanitised silly spy fun
The hyper-realness of Vegas combined with espionage, very silly but that's the point. It really is original, in that there's accurate nudity and sex and drug use in the way I've experienced it on wild weekends - a proper R rated TV show. The characters are supposed to save the world when they're at their worst and that does consistently carry - their professionalism is patchy and they annoy the crap out of each other. At times there's poor writing like - a conflict between serious characters and camp characters, stereotyped characters, obvious conflict, poorly timed and predictable attempts at character development, but it's good solid entertainment.
Old (2021)
Undefined and waste of time
Don't watch this, save yourself the time, unless you're a student of bad stories. Nice PREMISE for a story, and that's where it ends. There are too many characters, shots chosen are clunky. It could be a great surrealist piece, but it hovers between that and ... not sure, thriller or mystery? It deserves a much smarter treatment than this shambles, where the actors have clearly been told what to do, and done that to the ruin of the film. As it progresses, the relationships dissolve into basics and stupidity. They try to make it all tie together but honestly it's stupid and contrived. The malevolent figure has inadequate development and the payoff is too poor and too late.
My Policeman (2022)
Enjoyable
I praise the acting, cinematography, direction, and premise. Not enough interplay between different times (two phases exist for main characters) to make it effective. It's fairly serious but not depressing. I like the issues of how to deal with past loves when you are older.
It's a great portrayal of life in the 1950s, contrasted with modern attitudes using a time shift, accentuating what we chose when young versus real middle age, and the troublesome agony of issues we find relevant now. Sometimes I wonder, did people care back then about the issues we face now - and why not?
Overall a very safe film. Fair and nice soundtrack, lovely scenery.
37-Teen (2019)
Waste of their money and your time
Even if you're aiming for light comedy, it doesn't have to have such a bad script and indescribably poor acting and direction. Maybe you should watch it for just how cringeworthy it is.
Valentine's Day (2010)
Confusing and contrived
What a huge waste of money. So many big names, but too many stories, trying too hard to be clever and just ending up vapid, all of them trite and predictable. Nothing new or insightful, highly traditionalist and therefore irrelevant. Acting itself isn't bad.
Snowtown (2011)
Good movie, harrowing content
It's in the noir Australian style. Well made, but featuring some of the most realistic and deplorable facets of humanity. Make sure you can cope with absolutely evil psycho things before you watch this. Overall, a good film that definitely provoked strong reactions, as good art must do. Apart from the horrific content, it asks interesting questions about modern poverty and masculinity.
Not recommended for anyone under 23.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Promising, but takes way too long
I gave up. I kept getting sent back. Production qualities and acting all good, but there should be more than one way to go forwards. Frustrating.
Macho (2016)
Childish
If you have nothing else to do, feel free to waste your time. Mostly a gay and fashioned theme movie which had no depth of any characters. Good for popcorn at the best.
