Marco Polo (2014)
An interesting series
I agree with the previous reviewers who rated the series at 8 stars. If you read Wikipedia on the subject of Marco Polo, you will get a better understanding of the history and controversies that have evolved over the centuries about the veracity of the tales. It would have been really interesting if all the languages actually spoken had been used with subtitles. That is too much to ask for, I suppose, but I personally find the use of subtitles preferable to dubbing or , as in this case, using English as the universal tongue. I am an avid lover of Asian dramas from Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand and I always watch with the original language plus subtitles.
Hwan Hon (2022)
The first season was fantastic; the second season was awful
The first 20 episodes were well acted with interesting plot twists and character development. The second season was the exact opposite: bad acting and muddled plot development . I couldn't believe the absurd attempt to expect the audience to buy into the characters foisted on the public. Even the actors themselves looked like they were suffering. The ending was so bad it could only have been scripted to placate a fan base demanding a "happy ending". What were the Hong sisters thinking? The acting was so lackluster that it was hard to watch . I had watched the first season three times it was such a pleasure. I hated the second season to the degree that I will never ever watch the first season again. There was too much repetition of familiar memes in the second season that it became boring and I had to fast forward to stop yawning.
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
Outstanding romantic comedy and political thriller
This series, available on Netflix, is the finest available worldwide!! It has everything: great acting, deceit, machinations, pathos, comedy, intense action scenes and a heart-rending love story. I agree with all the reviews that gave this ten stars. Everyone who has Netfix worldwide is watching it has watched this show. Everyone I talk to has said the same thing: I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
Xia Yi Zhan Shi Xing Fu (2020)
My favorite romantic comedy
Wonderful cast with Victoria Song and Song Weilong as headliners but everyone shines!! Available on Netflix and kudos to Netfix for giving us the chance to see this charming, insightful comedy of manners. The interplay between the cast members is outstanding. I have actually watched this three times in Netflix and purchased the DVD.
Feng Qiu Huang (2018)
A misunderstood gem
This remarkable Chinese costume drama has had a rocky history but I am glad to see that it's available on Rakuten Viki in a wonderful, clear digital version in its entirety. It is a story told in two parts. Many reviewers deplore the transition from the first 17 episodes to the second 35 episodes feeling betrayed by the shift in perspective. I won't present any details of the plot here. Suffice to say, if you like fantasy, sword play, romance, deceit, cunning, poisoning, back-stabbing, unexpected plot twists and gorgeous actors, this will fulfill all expectations!
