Amazing!!!

This may be the most realistic movie I've ever seen. The acting and cinematography make it seem like it was filmed while it the actual events occurred. Pontecorvo couldn't have made a better film. Forget Spielberg and Scorsese. Forget Hollywood. This is real cinema.

It's a documentary style movie, and it will teach you something. Beyond that, it will make you FEEL something. That's what movies are supposed to do, right? Pontecorvo knows the answer to that. At the end of this film, you'll say to yourself 'Wow! Now that's how a movie should be made.'

Colonialism and oppression have a tremendous affect on people. Watching this movie, you will see exactly how.

The Terminal (2004)

fun, but unrealistic and makes no sense at all
12 March 2005
The Terminal is a fun movie, but has no real plot and lacks direction. The lack of a plot that makes any sense (it sort of has one, but a really dumb one) drags the movie out for longer than necessary. It has some very funny scenes, but just as many that really don't make any sense. Hanks puts on an unrealistic but funny character, including accent. I really hate it, though, when a movie is unrealistic. At least there should be a plausible idea behind what the characters do. Places and accents should be realistic. Don't make stuff up. Plus, does every movie have to have a love story? It's as if they have to throw one in there for good measure. This movie has more than one. And one ends up in a marriage after the first date. That's ridiculous. There's also a bad guy thrown in there for good measure.

I've come to expect this kind of movie from Hollywood. Entertaining, but disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun movie. Just don't watch it expecting a movie that makes any sense.

Period piece, love story.
18 February 2005
If you like love stories - I usually don't care for them - you should enjoy this one. This is my all-time favorite movie. Marsillach is the most darling young woman I've ever seen. You might fall in love as I did.

David falls in love with a girl he meets in Isreal. She's a Jew and he's not, so her family does everything they can to keep them apart. It's a simple movie with no real plot. It doesn't need one. This may be the only time I can say a movie doesn't need a plot.

A really interesting side note is that the girl and her family speak Ladino. It is the Spanish spoken in Spain around 1492, when Ferdinand and Isabel expelled the Jews from Spain. That makes the film a bit of a time capsule, as the language remains unchanged. That made the film infinitely more interesting for me than it might have otherwise been.

Great period piece! Great love story!
