The Crush (2010)
wonderful!!
This Oscar winning short film about a boy's crush on his teacher was very touching in the beginning. But the movie becomes very serious. In the film you will see two things. How humans are really are when their life is in danger and what kind of problem the gun society holds. Also the serious acting of the little boy is so good that throughout the film, you would constantly be drawn in the film. You would learn how pure and how smart a child could be. I learned that sometimes a child can see more than an adult can. There is no doubt about this film being an Oscar winner. Every time you watch this film you would learn a lesson from this fantastic film.
The Gift (2010)
another world
It seemed that this 5 minute SF film contained a plot of a long film. The film takes place in a parallel world where the civilization is higher than ours. The film starts out as if it is a slow tempo film but as it goes on it picks up its pace and becomes an action film in the end. The more it goes on the more you are drawn in the film. It doesn't matter if you understand the language. The action will do the job. It makes you think about the near future and the ending of the film left out the viewers to think what would happen in the 'other' world. By the way of ending, it make us feel the story is going to continue. It makes me excited.
Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
wonderful!!
This short film of an American and Japanese couple living in Kamakura, takes place in ordinary life scenes. The couple doesn't have any children but one day a half American half Japanese child comes to their home. You can see the conflict the couple has when deciding what to do with the child. The scenes start out with a feeling of determination, prejudice neighbors and gloom characters but in the end the couple's life starts to become better and the gloomed atmosphere surrounding them disappears. The expression of the characters in the film are very realistic and you will feel the happenings very closely. I can watch it again and again.
The Lunch Date (1989)
so funny, excellent film!
A woman is rushing to catch her train. On the way, she bumps into a black man. She couldn't make her train and at that time, she notices she lost her wallet. She decides to spend her time at a café until her next train. She buys a dish of salad with money she has left. She finds a seat for herself, puts her luggage on the seat, stands and go to get a fork. When she returns to her seat, there is a black man sitting and eating her salad! She eats the salad with the man. On the way to her next train, she notices she left her luggage as the café and goes back to pick them up
The film is shot in black and white. I like the sound of them biting vegetables, and it's comfortable to hear. The background music is good old and so sweet to our ears. The woman misses the train, loses her wallet and I felt sorry for her but at last, I felt good and satisfied.
Knick Knack (1989)
cute and high quality film
This short film made by Pixar was full of humor. The film starts with a tropical imaging music and dancing souvenirs all from worm areas. On the other side of the shelf, a snow man in a snow globe tries many different ways to get out to see the bikini girl dancing. You will wonder what he would try to do next to get out. No one can predict what will happen next and what will happen to the love between them. None of the character speaks in the film but you can understand what the characters are thinking from there expressions. The film has a humorous ending but I have to say one thing, poor little guy. Watch to see what happens.
Lifted (2006)
love it.
There is a house in the countryside one quiet night. A spacecraft comes and a bright light shines on the sleeping man in a room through a window. A little alien inside of the spacecraft tries to control the power of light and abduct the man without waking him up. A big fat alien is an examiner and watching the little alien's work strictly. There're so many switches that the little alien keeps making mistakes and struggles to pull the man out of the room. Finally the big alien moves. There are some people who are adding sounds and uploading the film. Each of these films uses music and various sound effects like crashing or error sound to make the scenes more exciting. I want to check them out.
Fish Out of Water (2005)
It serves them right
A man goes to work by boat because he doesn't like traffic jams. One day, a beautiful woman comes and asked him if she can take a ride to her office. Day by day, more and more people come to him to use him, but at the same time he feels uncomfortable. As the number of passengers increase, his attitude against his neighbors gets poorer. This shows his life is getting dreary. He isn't a bad person, but everyone gets upset if they were used by someone else for their own good. Fish Out of Water is a film about a man's revenge on a beautiful woman and a fat man. Through the film they don't have dialogue, however you can tell his strong feeling from the background music and his expression.
Otousan no tabako (2007)
a girls conflict
The Errand is a Japanese film which shows anxiety and perplexity. A man has a serious illness and he can't move from his bed. He is addicted to cigarettes and keeps making his daughter buy them. The girl faces two contrary opinions. Her father says that cigarettes are good for his health. On the other hand, her mother argues that they kill people. From her behavior, when she buys cigarettes, you can tell that she knows she is doing something wrong. In this film we can see her inner conflict against her own conscience. The girl sees her father dying and she will keep buying cigarettes to make her father happy. She will even lie to her mother if she has to. I really enjoyed following the girl's feelings.
Paperman (2012)
Like a dream.
"Paperman" is a wonderful Disney film that shows love, destiny, chance and inevitability. The story is about a man who meets a woman by chance, which he won't be able to forget. It has a very strong Disney taste, therefore we can comprehend his or her feelings even if there aren't any lines. Furthermore, this film uses only black and white except for the woman's lips. This simple and magical lipstick leads them together. The background music greatly expresses the man's exaltation, disappointment and resolution. Although this film is only seven minutes long, we can learn how coincidence and spontaneity are important. We have to move once we make up our mind.
Father and Daughter (2000)
Beautiful and Touching.
"Father and Daughter" is a film that represents loneliness and great courage. A girl and her father cycle to a coastline. She sees him row away. From this day, she starts visiting the place. She becomes a teenager, a young woman, has a family and becomes old. However she keeps returning to the point where she last met her father and she always had a deep longing for him. This film isn't using any dialog. There are only sounds of bicycle bells, shaking trees and wind, which change depending on the scene. This story teaches us about the difficulty of facing death. We have to cherish the limited time we have in our life.
