Kraft Suspense Theatre: My Enemy, This Town (1964)

(Kraft) Suspense Theater on RTN!!
6 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
If you have RTN (shown as an HD.2 or HD.3 channel on many HDTV's now) then this episode just aired on September 7th. Hopefully more of the old Kraft theater shows will air on RTN (at midnight Eastern time). It was interesting to watch a show from 1964 - constant smoking, drinking, and driving around great cars. In addition, most women wore hats and gloves, and of course, most of the men all wore sport coats and ties! A great way to look back. This episode has held-up pretty well for being 44 years old! The music is by none other than (Star Wars') Johnny Williams, and it reminds me of "Lost in Space" music too. Possible spoiler question: Was actress Barbara Nichols the girl that originally sent him to jail for 7 years, or was she the girl at the end that tried to send him up the river for the second time?

Great Scenery, Great Actors, Valentine's Story
4 February 2006
"Falling In Love With The Girl Next Door" is definitely worth watching just to see the scenery of beautiful Catalina Island. You do get to see quite a bit of the real island in this show, and nothing is really 'faked' there - as many TV shows tend to distort the actual area where they're filmed. Quite a line-up of talent too. Patty Duke, Shelly Long, Patrick Duffy and Bruce Boxlietner all do well. Story line is a little on the weak side, but it's still cute nonetheless. It's a good Valentine's Day story, and okay as a TV movie, but not Emmy-award winning material by any means. The lead actress is quite good and I look forward to seeing her in future movies. Overall, a good movie to watch on a winter's day. Story is a little predictable, so I won't tell you any more about it, other than you'll have to watch it for yourself.

Cade's County (1971–1972)

Cade's County - great theme song & show
7 March 2005
Cade's County was a pretty neat show and should have lasted 5 years on the TV of the early 70's, but, that was back in the big 3 network days when there was no cable for another few years yet, and a show had to have a huge audience and not huge competition (like the Ed Sullivan Show). The theme song and opening credits were really sweet for a TV show - Henry Mancini's best song of all time is definitely the "Theme from Cade's County" and watching Glen Ford jump through the air in the Jeep was pretty slick. The show was filmed in the super high-quality style of Universal Studios or a 20th Century Fox movie - better quality than nearly every TV show on the air today - in my opinion, and was quite impressive. Scripts were pretty good too. Can I suggest we have TV Land or the like, have a marathon running these 'lost' TV shows of the early to mid 70's like Cade's County? Great show, and like I said, the song "Theme from Cade's County" is by far the best toe-tappin' song ever from Henry Mancini. Just like "WKRP in Cincinnati", CBS gave a great show a crummy timeslot and killed it way ahead of its time.
