Assassin's Creed (2016)
Exceptional. This movie has broken the trend of bad video game movies.
I went to watch the Assassin's Creed movie with reserved apprehension. As we know, movies made from video games haven't been very good and some have been downright awful. This apprehension was also due to the low IMDb rating of the movie as well as all the critical reviews citing it another failed attempt. However, in my opinion, 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft have done an exceptional job. As someone who has played the video game, I find that the costumes, characters, cinematography, music and special effects have all come together very well to recreate the world of the Assassins as I know it. The casting was very well done and all actors have done a very well to bring to life the unique characters they portray. The plot line is something many critics seem to find fault with, however, I feel that the story was very well written and scripted and has done both, to deliver to the gamers as well as to to introduce the non-gamers to the universe. In my opinion, the story was unique in many ways and yet had a plot line extracted from the original story of the game, thus giving me both nostalgia as well as a taste of new. Contrary to what many critics are saying, I'd rate this movie 8/10 and say that it is a very good movie and totally worth the time and money for both gamers and non-gamers alike.
The Pyramid (2014)
Historically Inaccurate Horror that really isn't very scary.
A really disappointing movie for both horror enthusiasts as well as ancient Egypt lovers.
To start with, it's really not scary as a horror movie. With the typical setting of unearthing an ancient special three sided pyramid and exploring it. getting trapped and waking up a monster.Very clichéd as one by one the main characters die either falling prey to booby traps or to the evil monster of the pyramid. Not really scary as everything was predictable and even the Anubis monster was a really good example of poorly made CGI. A very predictable ending where only one person just makes it out only to be dragged in again. Booby traps? Spikes, sand tunnels and collapsing floors.
Secondly, factually inaccurate. Yes, tombs did contains writings from the book of the dead, no, Anubis was not the child of Osiris. He was the son of Set. The hearts of the deceased are weighed against the feather of Truth. and not against the goddess of Maat, Maat was the ancient Egyptian concept of Order, opposite it was Isfet or Chaos. Maat was represented by the Sun God Ra. Oh, and Anubis was not evil, his father Set was. Anubis was the God of Funerals and was most often depicted as leading the souls of the dead to the hall of judgement.
Brave (2012)
An Amazing movie. Must watch family movie.
Brave has truly brought forth the best in both animation as well as in storyline. The animation and rendering are truly amazing works and the scenic vistas of Scotland have been beautifully portrayed.
The reason that Brave has become so successful is simply because its characters and storyline are very relatable. The character of Merida is essentially that of every modern teenager both boys and girls, who wish to be free and follow their own paths. On the other hand the queen portrays the parents who wish what is best for their children and yet can be overbearing and restrictive.
The story represents the struggle that every parent and every child must face. The idea of duty and responsibility, of love and life, of family and brotherhood, has been beautifully conveyed through a magical and adventurous storyline.
Overall a 9/10.
Frozen (2013)
An Excellent Disney creation. One of the Best!
Frozen is in my opinion, one of Disney's best ever animated features. There are many new and inspiring points that make it the amazing film that it is. The idea of "Family is everything" is something that the movie has perfectly represented. The storyline is also excellent and it is interesting to see how the plot diverges from the typical princess love story and romance and focuses instead on the bond of sisterhood. The two characters have been very well portrayed, especially Elsa, who is in my opinion one of Disney's best characters. The soundtrack is beautiful and it isn't surprising that the film has been nominated for golden globes best animated feature and best song awards. The twist in the end which brings prince Hans forward as an antagonist is one of the most surprising events in the tale. And contrary to some reviews that Elsa needed a love interest, I believe that Elsa is perfect as she is as she has been created as a person with an older more mature personality, someone who would put her duties and responsibilities above her own needs, someone who would in short, sacrifice everything, for her family and kingdom. And as they have included Anna with a love life, there really is no need for another. Elsa's character brings forth the idea of self acceptance and understanding, something that many youngsters face today.
All in all, A beautiful Movie. I rate it 9/10 which is the highest I ever give to any movie.
