The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
The best movie i have seen in my 20 years of life
This was by far the best movie I have ever seen in my life. However, I haven't seen many so don't take it to heart all you hard core movie lovers!
It followed the book as well as it could which was great to those who read it and are fans. It was a very intense movie experience with all the action scenes and romance in between it all. The acting was superb from all cast members (the best I have ever seen). As a sequel it was definitely taken to the next level! It was an emotional roller-coaster to say the least.
However there was some things I would like to address.
First and foremost: Listen to the rating!! It is PG-13 for a reason. it is really violent but that is what makes the film so good. Anyways, the first time I saw this in theaters, I sat next to a maybe 9 yr old boy and halfway through he was cuddling up to his mother. Im sure the kid was traumatized after seeing this movie. Even if your under-aged child has read the book and knows what happens, it's very different seeing it all spilled out in front of you on a screen vs imagination.
My biggest critique would probably be the ending. It was a little cheesy how it ended with Katniss breathing heavy and staring into the camera. They should have used some movie magic to create a scene or something to make it end less abruptly. (although its hard because the book ends abruptly too)
The only other thing is the special effects. They were AMAZING!! don't get me wrong but sometimes it was obvious they were fake.
I'm sure the film has less of an impact on those who do not read the books and are not emotionally attached to all the characters. But I rated this one so high because it left me with my heart racing. It was the best movie I have ever seen.
Lone Survivor (2013)
If you are a female don't watch this. It's not as thrilling as you think.
I am not the target audience for this film. I found it really hard to pay attention to. I get how its supposed to be this big production of the story about the guys involved in this mission. I just question the fact that this story is entertaining enough to make into a film.
The movie takes a while to get entertaining. The whole beginning I had a hard time paying attention. When they show the guys talking about their personal lives I thought that was kind of boring. Mostly because I couldn't really tell the difference between the guys because they all had the same hair and beard.
As a female non-military person I didn't really understand the military terms they used to explain the mission in the first place. I literally had no clue what was going on (obviously I could figure out the basics). It was boring until the last half hour.
However, it seemed like a very accurate portrayal of how the actual mission occurred. The special effects/shooting scenes were done well. (but when the whole movie is guys shooting at each other it gets pretty boring unless you like that stuff.) You could really sympathize with the US guys as they kept getting hurt and shot at. I can't even imagine what that would feel like.
It was informative about the mission and all involved. That is all it really is.
Regardless: THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SERVE AND RISK THEIR LIVES LIKE THOSE IN THIS MOVIE!!!!
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011)
If you are not a fan you will hate it. Fans will enjoy it.
The movie was okay. The fans are obviously going to love it. The nonfans are definitely going to hate it. When I saw this movie the first time I was just a middle of the road person on my opinions of Bieber.
To be honest I liked the movie. I didn't really know anything about Bieber besides his songs so it was cool to see the personal side of him in the film. I also enjoyed learning how his rise to fame came about and found the movie informative on that subject.
The movie was somewhat entertaining if you can tolerate him. It got pretty suspenseful for a moment when he lost his voice so it made you want to keep watching at the end. However, overall it didn't really have much substance.
Same goes for the music. You'll like it if you can tolerate his music. If you can't stand bieber then... why are you even looking at his movie?
One Direction: This Is Us (2013)
If you are not a fan don't watch it.
Okay so I am somewhat of a 1D fan but that doesn't mean I am blind to bad movies. Of course the movie is going to rate low because it is a concert documentary and these types of movies never have any sort of substance. So if you don't even like the artist that this type of movie is about then you are stuck having a miserable time.
From a non fan perspective i would give it a 2. All it is is the famous boy-band singing their songs. If you don't know anything about the band it may be informative to you because it teaches you the basic one direction facts like how they got started, where they are from, what their family is like etc.
For the same reason as a fan of 1D i would give it a 4. The movie was very repetitive. All of the fans know these basic facts already so you don't really learn anything. Most of the interviews and backstage info they talk about is the same thing like "Oh we're just normal humble people that are amazed at what's happened to us." There was no conflict/dramatic event in the movie so the plot was pretty much boring the whole time.
I am someone who enjoys listening to 1D so I thought the music was really good. If you don't like their music you will hate it because the whole movie consists of them singing it. But since I am a fan I did appreciate the music because I haven never gone to a 1D concert. It was cool to see the setup and everything too. Also I liked how you could tell they we're actually singing. (...at least i think)
Justin Bieber's Believe (2013)
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Just watch the trailer.
The film sucked. Before I get into details I just want to say that I am a fan of Bieber. I always have been and always will be. But that doesn't mean I can't spot a horrible movie when I see one. I guess I wanted to see the movie in theaters because I wanted to see parts of the believe concert and learn more about Bieber's personal life (i.e. relationship with Selena) Basically the movie failed all of my expectations.
I do like Bieber's music so I was looking forward to hearing it in the film but even that disappointed me. The way they played it, you couldn't really hear him singing at all. I don't know why I thought I would hear him singing since he doesn't even sing live anyway...
I also wanted to hear him talk about Selena and all that drama but he didn't even make a slight reference to her at all which was weird and also disappointing. (Now that I think about it Selena probably told him not to.) Also, Bieber himself tweeted many times that the film would address all the rumors. No rumors were addressed or set straight or anything at all.
Now for the plot. This movie literally had no plot. Im not really even sure what the film was supposed to be about. If it was supposed to be about the believe tour it wasn't. The entire movie was idiots talking about how they are making the movie (which is pretty stupid) None of it was even about Justin Bieber. It's only under his name because of the music they used i guess. The whole movie was about other people involved. For example they spent a good chunk of the movie talking about them asking John M. Chu to direct the very movie we are watching them talk about. The rest of it was just other artists (idk if they are even famous or not) talking about Bieber and about the dancers and fans getting tickets to his concert. They didn't show anything about like life on tour or even behind the scenes of the concert.
Even the very little parts where Bieber was talking were very disappointing. First of all everything he says in the short interview clips is stated in the trailer for the movie. It repeats that same famous line a good 3 times. Second, those interviews blatantly prove how unintelligent Bieber actually is.
If you are thinking about going to see this movie don't. Watch the trailer online for free because it is essentially the same thing. You learn nothing about Justin Bieber from this movie. When it is over it leaves you wondering when the real movie about the believe tour/concert is going to start.
The only good part for the fans (yes there is one) is that it shows how some of the songs were made and the ideas behind them.
That is all. Very disappointing.
