Family Guy: Grimm Job (2014)
Fun one: I always like their Special episodes.
For the fans of Family Guy, we all love it when we get taken to a place, a setting, adventure, outside of Quahog.
In this one we get to go into the Land of Grimm's Fairy tales.
Would have rated higher, but this is a format that the Simpsons has been utilizing for YEARS.It is still fun though.
The funnest part of these tales(, like Tree house of Horror,) is always seeing where each stock character is portrayed, and how their personality floats over to the role of the story.
Jack and the Beanstalk: No meg, but there weren't enough spots for too many characters in this one. They jammed in what they could, and it flowed pretty well. Not their best work, but I liked that one.
Little Red Riding Hood: Lovin' Stewie in another homosexual suggestive role. Brian has a part that is only fitting, and they are at least able to have a bit of that Stewie-Brian chemistry. But the characters were all in the right place and it is always fun to see retrospective observations, that Family Guy does so well.
Cinderella (but not by Grimm):
Pretty much a Disney knock off version, this relies on making fun of the movie. I liked it, but nothing original. But I liked it.
Monsters Inside Me (2009)
Like poking a dead body with a stick.
I saw an advertisement/ commercial for this show the other day, and checked it out on my DVR today.
I expected there to be several cases of inner-body parasites. In that respect, the show delivered. My problem was that they seemed to make too big of a deal about the cases. So much so, that only 2-3 cases fit into an episode that has a running time of 60 min.
In my opinion I think the series does not seem to stress the science, or the way that the parasites work, which is what I was fascinated with.
Though it may sound cold, I didn't watch the show so I could see dramatizations of what the family was doing at the time, or how they felt.
If you are into Drama, with a gruesome touch, and you don't mind waiting for it, then this show is for you.
For me, I didn't like how it wraps you up in a Documentary Drama, then we are introduced to the gross part. I would have liked to see one or the other.
Actually, just the one.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
All the right ingredients, just not put together right.
I wanted so bad to like this series!
Joss Whedon has made us nerds so happy all these years. Avengers, Firefly, Alien Resurrection, even Toy Story! He had his misses too, but this isn't just about Joss.
Samuel L.Jackson appeared as Nick Fury, The main agents that we all liked in the film, were making cameos, and led by the teddy bear character that we all came to know in the previous Marvel films leading up to the Avenger movie.
The Series started well in the first two episodes, however the third was a sharp cliff, where the series fell off and did not quite seem to recover from.
I hope other people enjoy this show and I wish I could, but that is not the case. Wish you all the best. Thanks.
How I Met Your Mother: Unpause (2014)
Will there be a bear?
"Nothing good happens after 2 am." I don't agree, I watched this one at 2:30 am
But this episode gives us peeks into the future, with Ted and "Your Mother."
We are able to have the unprecedented, opportunity, to glimpse into Barney's inner layers as he is exposed for what and who he has always been.
That being a pleasant surprise shows us that Barney was not the cold calculating, sociopath we always thought he was.
I always wish my relationship was like Lily and Marshall's. I think we all do. A new tool is introduced in this episode, which could be invaluable to ANY relationship. Definitely makes me want to try it.
I loved this one. it was a lot of fun and really held my attention all the way through.
How I Met Your Mother (2005)
Ending the Series, I finally have a perspective.
IN Short: This Show Has Heart! This show is Fun, Witty, and Easy to Watch. Don't look for a thought provoking series when a laugh track is included.
It is never boring, or repetitive, ("like Friends,") it stays fresh and current.
How I met your Mother is one of the funnest and easiest shows to watch. Sure, the show is not deep, introspective, or particularly unique.
BUT WAIT! This show is still awesome. Why? Because HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has HEART!
This show is just off kilter enough to separate itself from the usual sitcom. I think that when "HIMYM" debuted after ,"Two and a Half Men," it was such a refreshing contrast to see something modern that a Gen X would be interested in. It's competition was the standard, comfortable things that the whole family at Disneyland could relate to.
This show was suggestive, modern, and one would never suspect Disney would have anything to do with it.
American Horror Story: Protect the Coven (2014)
Quick review for an episode that seemed to go by too quick
That's right! If you are an fan of the show, this season probably has not been your favorite. However, in this episode, the story seems to emerge from this season's standard of being a raw version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." This season has been mostly fallen into a Sci-Fi/Drama until now.
Tonight, with the episode: "Protect the Coven," The premise of the entire series seems to emerge in one of the most unsettling episodes of the season.
If this is a sign of things to come, for the next two episodes, it may all pay off with the series returning to its roots.
LOVED THIS ONE! Blood, Guts, Gore, Catalysts, hooks, this episode is DEFINITELY worth watching, over several others in this season.
American Dad!: Merlot Down Dirty Shame (2010)
Sick and Sideways
A few spoofs about the movie sideways, add some observational humor based on the arrogance and pretentiousness exhibited by, "Wine folk," and the setting is ready for mild laughter. accompanying the already, mediocre main plot, Steve and his dreams have a plot all their own, as if it could have been attached to any main story-line, from any episode, which required filler.
I like this show. I would watch another episode, I usually watch them a couple times just because I get a kick out of them.
It is just that this particular episode didn't seem to quite, "Do it for me."
Hypothetically, if friends actually asked ,"Would you recommend this episode?" (Because who asks about a particular episode when they already watch series?) I would say, "Use it as background noise."
I'll skip it on my DVR next time, but keep re-watching the other episodes .
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Gang Gets Held Hostage (2007)
Unique episode in an already unique series
One of my favorites, This episode breaks up the standard format of the gang having their way with the outside world, which eventually results in dyer consequences for those who are unlucky enough to be caught in their wake. This episode sets a different scene, with one of the best sets of recurring characters, "The McPoyles." The base of the plot (as stated above) is that the gang will finally get what's coming to them. That prospect alone makes this episode stand out.
Additionally, I LOVE the McPoyles. They seemed to have cornered the market on a brand of creepy, that you just can't wrap your mind around, to simply categorize them as a certain type. Mcpoyles are definitely the first to do a lot of disturbingly funny things that I have never seen portrayed by ANY other character on television. EVER
I think the side plot with frank was only necessary to keep him out of the main plot on this one.
I loved it!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Gang Gets Racist (2005)
A great way to start a fight.
In this episode, we are introduced to our gang who gets accused of being racist. In order to avert these allegations, the gang is ready and more than willing to sell out, and capitalize on the unexpected results.
This is the episode that started it all. within the first 5 minutes of the episode, I knew 3 things real quick.
1-This show was definitely not made for everyone. The TV rating is not actually able to cover this sort of thing.
2-It is so refreshing to see that something unique and smart, is available for the low, low, price of commercials.
3-I LOVE THIS SHOW!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005)
Simply amazing if this show is for you.
You either LOVE this show, like I do, or you are allergic, like my mom is.
I think the show is fun, easy to watch, stands on its own in a time where most shows have become way too similar.
My mother thought it was stupid, painful to watch, she didn't like that the characters were morally depraved, sociopaths...
Sunny has EVERYTHING! as the gang stays the same, the recurring characters develop and progress. In most cases, they seem to circle the drain as a result of the gang's impacts on their lives.
As the title suggests, though others may have a different perspective, since the gang seems oblivious/ uninterested, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
Side affects may include pestering your friends to watch.
American Horror Story (2011)
Each Season=New Series and New Genre
Awesome Level: Varies on each season. Over all I would say it is about 87% Awesome and worth watching. Mostly on the fact that the series is inventive, dynamic, and consistently reinvents itself.
Short version: Season 1= Longer version of a standard horror movie Season 2= Actually Frightening and would fall into the category of Thriller/Drama/Horror movie Season 3= Violent, "TV-MA", intense and raw version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
Miss A Season? Didn't see season one? Wanna know what happens after season 2 ends? No need to worry; because each season, the plot, setting, direction, era, all change and hit the reset button. The only thing that seems to remain the same is the cast members, but in different roles.
Season One: We are able to see a family slowly coming to grips with the fact that they are living in an increasingly haunted house. This season has unique touches to it that make it intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat, and biting your nails as those jump-cuts and unsettling style shadow that, of an actual horror film.
Though my girlfriend wouldn't watch an episode without holding on to me, it seemed that mid-season, the show had run out of fresh ideas to keep the original plot compelling. The season began to have a new haunting, and set of ghosts that were never introduced in the established plot and seemed like filler. "By the way, did you know that this also happened here? Here are some more characters to add into the house's history."
Season 2: This is my favorite by FAR! This is set in an Asylum, in the 60's. Asylums are already disturbing in nature; and with the added element of bringing one back to a barbaric age where certain practices are considered criminal by today's standards, the set-up alone is enough to stick in your mind and haunt your thoughts. As the season progresses the story is used after the established plot, without any fishing, filler, or deviation of the evoking drama and terror. It is in this season that American Horror Story establishes itself as a TV drama, in addition to the original Thriller/ Horror genre. Given the Solidity, integrity, and creativity in character development rather than constantly bringing in new ones, the story is as compelling as it is frightening and disturbing.
Season 3: American Horror Story: Coven At this point I am unable to see where or how this season will develop; I can say that the first two episodes were rather frightening. However, this Season seems to drift more toward the compelling drama which drew us in with season two. The plot seems to be solid, the characters are fascinating, but the, "Horror" has been replaced with "Creepy." I guess there is not much more to say other than I watch this season because I am a fan of the show. It is still interesting, better than the first season in plot, but if I were recommending this show to someone who had never seen it, I would tell them to check out the second season first.
I suppose in any sequel it is wrong to expect the original to be exactly the same. I always think it is best to simply judge each addition as its own movie, or season, and start with a fresh perspective each time. To be fair, since this show seems to be a completely different show each season, I am still very interested in what lies in store for season 4. Hope ya found this helpful.
Ted (2012)
Great Episode of live action Family Guy
In short: Great jokes; plot is just used as a tool to get them all out.
Obviously, it is easy to say that this was a movie where Seth Macfarlane was able to take the voice of Peter and Brian Griffin, and just put them in a CGI, Live action film. Sure, a person could just say, "Why isn't there something new that can be worked into this movie other than the regular offensive humor and shock jokes?" Then again, with the cast, crew, previews, it would seem that anyone with common sense would know that this flick would fall nothing short of a Seth Macfarlane, "Look at me go!" That being said, if you set aside the plot, the movie is a real laugh. I would recommend this movie to someone with a, "Family Guy sense of humor," which most of us have, and someone who is not looking for a fun night, with a lot of care free laughs.
Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
Pure 80's Classic
In Short: Fun, easy to watch, plot driven, timeless classic.
Okay! So you have Eddie Murphy, his trademark laugh, out of town meeting Beverly Hills, all set in the 80's! These ingredients are already going to make a cute/fun, comedy. This movie isn't filled with deep, thought provoking, material. This movie isn't about nailing just one audience. This is a flick that showcases what Eddie Murphy has always done best; Eddie Murphy can make EVERYONE laugh.Though his humor may not be G-Rated, once you are old enough to watch this, or his legendary stand-up specials, Eddie's humor is always a welcome addition to an audience of two, or less people. This movie has one thing that other films from this time do not, when showcasing the talents of a famous comedian. This movie has a driving plot, that is actually what the movie revolves around, rather than the plot revolving around the jokes. I have seen it so many times, and will probably keep watching it every 7 years.
American Dad!: Familyland (2014)
Favorite Episode of the season!
Starting out the episode with Roger's car pop-up being, "Oscar Gold," was a great way to begin. Familyland was a brilliant portrayal of modern day, "Disney Land." From the various perspectives each family member accurately voiced, to the accurate depiction of the map, this episode touched on each thought a person has while wandering through Walt's creation. The best, was the portrayal of the most racist ride in the park, "Splash Mountain." In Short the exploitation of the princess dream that anger activists, the tween attraction to Tomorrow Land, Walt Disney's cryogenic experiment, his anti-Semitic agenda, and the deteriorating family values exhibited at the park, are all portrayed in this spot on episode.
The Dark Knight (2008)
A bold statement. Perhaps one of the best films of all time.
We are in an age where the audience can choose to view a film featuring 3-D,C.G.I., and Special effects. The audience may also choose to find a film which has a solid story line, a remarkable plot, and surprises in an unpredictable series of events. But you can't have both. This is the general rule...However, with the exception of The Dark Knight and only a few others, All of these effects seem to be necessary to attain this culmination of an A+ Plot, Direction, Acting, and Production. Definitely in my top 3 list of all time favorites. Thank You to everyone who was able to make this film what it is. One thing that makes this film special, is its unique ability to stand alone as a solid film, without ever seeing the prequel, or sequel.
