la fin d'un genre
21 June 2005
It's supposed to be witty but it is often languishing. It's meant to be funny but it's often thick.

Only a few dialogs can vaguely salvage this Turkey, a few lines by some seriously good actors; Bernard Blier is excellent, Jean Yann and Mireille Darc as well.

This movie is the end of a line born in the 50's, a line which had its days and its myths, a line which went into decadence in the 70's, with movies like this one. Mobsters are no longer funny, witty and amusing, the spoofs of "films noirs" became boring before they disappeared. This is the end of a world...

Who is afraid of feelings ?

What is wrong with homo flicks ? This one starts with a good idea and bogs down into utter confusion. The next step is complete oblivion.

A nice actor portrays a young and ignorant man from Gruyère who refuses to commit, refuses to envisage his relationship beyond raw sex cruised on the internet.

He lets a nice girlfriend escape him and tries to reinvent his life. Gradually he reflects on himself and thinks about cultivating his brain and shedding his quite meaningless existence (there does not seem to be much physical pleasure in it !). An interesting theme for a quite boring film.

Bells ringing

Entertaining as usual albeit a bit shallow at times, this is overall a good movie (I love special effects) and there is a little bit more in it that meets the eye.

I particularly enjoyed the tragic historical references ; from the destruction of the temple (Jedi temple) to the "aspiring emperor" destroying the galaxy's senate (the UN ?). And what about this reminiscent line of his "who is not with me is my enemy" ? This movie is a picture of our history of greed and impatience. And we ain't seen nothing yet. Lucas made a valid point but nobody seems to have caught it...yet!
