The Most Realistic Cop Show !
14 August 2022
I'm a retired cop of 30 years of service. Southland is the most realistic cop show I've ever seen. Some NBC executives opined that the show was too dark for prime time. Maybe so, it's not for kids or folks that cringe at what's really going on in the streets. Although the show was cancelled in 2013 can you imagine the format with todays life out there ? I'd like to see other great networks pick up the show and carry on with a revised series. I'd like to see the original actors because they were an awesome ensemble of professionals. Michael Cudlitz, Ben McKensie, Shawn Hatosy and the awesome Regina King, C. Thomas Howell, etc. These are top notch actors and the story writers were excellent. Whoever the technical advisors were, they trained the actors very well and it showed in their actions. I noticed some probably retired LAPD guys in cameo roles. Again, it's a rough life out on the streets and if people want to really see the truth, this is the show. So come on IMDB, LETS GIVE IT ANOTHER SHOT !

Good Solid Story
28 June 2022
This movie starts slow but it's for a reason...to develop characters and laying the groundwork as to why Chris Pine's role chose to become a Contractor. Chris Pine has yet again carried off a great acting presentation and doesn't miss a beat. The storyline and acting are spot on. The actors carried out real movements of a trained spec ops member. Ben Foster also did an exemplary portrayal of an operative. He was awesome in Lone Survivor several years ago as Matt Axelrod, a SEAL killed in Operation Red Wings. Yes, there are similarities with the Bourne stories as far covert ops and questions of " who are we working for ? ". The on location filming and directing was also awesome.

I'd recommend this film to anybody that has served and law enforcement special operatives ( SWAT) on the technical side.

Bosch Returns !
8 May 2022
Good writing is the first thing I noticed on the new show. Harry is still doing his detailed investigations but without the hassle of office politics. The whole cast are on their A Game in their characters and pull off a great show. I'm only a few episodes into Bosch: Legacy but it's very much worth watching.

I was a stunt driver in this !
1 April 2022
Back in the mid 1990's myself and several other cops were hired to do stunt driving of police cars in the chase of the school bus. The actual incident occurred in Miami previously but this was filmed in Jacksonville, Fl. And the production executives were short on drivers that knew how to pursue. We also helped wit the uniform set up's, gun belts, fake Beretta 9mm. I know I notice BS cop rigs in movies and we tried to get them to set it up correctly.

The stars were very nice folks to us all. We were on set out around Bartram School off Atlantic & University Blvds. One day and a full banquet of food was set up for everybody. We also went over on the old Haines St. Expressway to stage the bus & police car chases. A lot of filming occurred but the movie of course was edited. Bruce Weitz was one actor that stood out to me as a down to earth guy. Many of us cops watched him in Hill Street Blues and that ensemble of actors were all awesome. Mr. Weitz would talk with you in relaxed times and I enjoyed speaking with him.

An extraordinary Irish Sleeper film !
3 January 2022
While recovering from some health issues I've been binging multiple programs, movies, etc. I saw the premise of this film and gave it a look. One my daughters, 30 watched it with me. We were both entertained by the story, the cast ensemble of excellent actors and the reality of the story. Parts were horrible and did show abuse but more importantly how a " victim " can rise above the reality and push herself to become a victor. Ms. Dunne wrote an excellent screenplay and did an extraordinary portrayal as lead. The two young daughters were absolutely precious in their acting and stood out.

Highly recommended for adult viewing.

Excellent cast and storylines
31 January 2021
First, I know very little German but the subtitles are good. The drama, set in the 1920's Berlin gives viewers a look into the poverty and corruption following WW 1. It's not a show that is a focal point of Hitler and does show NDSP / Brown Shirts some. Interesting and plot twists keep you engaged. Organized crime and political corruption with the police investigations are interesting. Characters are built and show their strengths and their weaknesses. PTSD from the war, drug addiction, etc. are depicted. The production is astounding in period. Keep an open mind to the culture and society of Germany and Europe.

Aaron Eckhart - great acting
18 November 2019
Ok guys, this is a straight up action flick. Aaron Eckhart delivers his role at 100 % as he always does. The writing and storyline could have been tweaked a bit better on developing characters. Ben McKenzie ( Southland) does a great job as a guy with a grudge. Not an academy award movie but worth a watch.

Good Movie with a Good Story and Acting
23 December 2016
These low budget films get passed over by many. This production was top shelf and the acting is good, good story line, and the filming, angles, shots and method was great.

Lance Henrikson, a veteran of some of the finest movies made stands out as the lead along with Johnny Strong. Strong played Sgt. Shugart in Blackhawk Down years ago. Solid actor and plays out the enigmatic lead protagonist. Special effects are great, makeup, and weaponry was excellent ! If you're a weapons person, you'll see every known assault weapon, sniper rifle, pistol, etc. you can think of. The actors were handling those weapons like they knew what they were doing. Shows a lot of prep by the production company. Cops and Military will appreciate all of this.

Movies like this makes you wonder...what happens if society breaks down, how people react and groups banding together to survive from others.

Season 2 ...A Different Flavor
17 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After watching season 1 with the excellent cast and story line one would expect to watch a similar story unfold. Season 2 is very different...it shows a varied darkness in the detectives, each having their own " demons " they carry, so true to life as a cop. The story begins as we see three different cops cross paths and all from different agencies but working together. They have one case they work together on but each has their own hidden agenda as does many of the characters in the supporting cast have.

Vince Vaughn shows his ability to change the persona he demonstrates usually in comedies to a dark organized crime boss. He captures the strong, violent criminal thats trying to gain more and he gets screwed. He's " ticked off " and he wants answers and the people responsible. He's a manipulator of people, including some cops. Excellent performance on Mr. Vaughn's part.

Colin Farrell shows his excellent acting abilities to become the cop that's fallen, who's career path changed after some of his own actions. Drinking, drugs, violent behavior, a man on the edge. Life threw him a curve ball and he allows that to dictate his path into darkness. He's on the " juice " provided by Vaughn's character who uses him to his advantage. Mr. Farrell plays his role very believable and some redemption is in his grasp.

Rachel McAdams does an outstanding performance where she too is a focused cop, one with a past and has the " I don't give a Sh** " attitude. She has no problem operating in a male dominate career. She has no problem kicking somebody's butt or using edged weapons or firearms.

Taylor Kitsch is the frustrated motor cop, a veteran of the war, a true operator but one that's denied a latent issue. The case allows him to utilize his true talents as an operator. Mr. Kitsch performance, especially as a Special Operator now a cop. I could see his training from Lone Survivor where he was SEAL Lt. Mike Murphy come to the surface.

Again, this series is worth watching and the action was very realistic when engaging armed suspects. Each actor did a great job portraying cops under fire and staying on point. The political and power backdrop where everybody wants something is again very true to real life.

Highly recommended viewing

Good Action Film
13 June 2015
Yet again, Milla Jovovich and Pierce Brosnan show their acting skills. I found the film very good and excellent story line. Milla shows her ability to do much of her own stunts and a little martial arts skill. The story was believable and without spoiling it , it shows the levels of terrorism activity. The characters each built on each other and the cast did a phenomenal job in their parts. I would recommend this movie to anyone liking Bourne type action and the various intelligence agencies reach. The video production was very good and the scenes were well shot, showing London and then New York. I could see Milla Jovovich reprising this role in the future as a agent for the government. Hopefully the producers will judge the box office and video take as profitable and expand the franchise utilizing Milla's ability to be a great action star.

Good Movie about brave men
14 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is a true story of three men that stuck together and survived 1,000 + miles at sea in a small raft. After realizing that they couldn't locate their carrier, fuel running out and then ditching in the Pacific they survived. This is a small movie with good actors showing the spirit of the young lads in WWII . Overall this is a well made movie with little special effects or anything of that nature. The actors portrayed their characters very excellent and you could feel their desperation and then guts while pulling together. It's a true depiction of how certain people rise above fear and did not give up. Knowing this was a true story made it even more enjoyable.

The Equalizer (2014)

Absolutely Denzel at his best !
3 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie takes you to a familiar area of the once Good Guy / Dark Past but kicks it up several notches. Denzel plays the part of an quiet gentleman, a little OCD but friendly. He has a heart, cares for people and really tries to encourage people around him while living a simple life. Then he gets " P. O.'d " when someone he cares about is harmed. The Dark Side comes out but with a hint of offering a peaceful resolution. The bad guys choose poorly and it's on. Now we see Denzel's capabilities which are similar to Jason Bourne, Aaron Cross, Taken, etc. You soon realize he is a former very well trained operator again, one with a heart.

The entire production, directing , acting , everything is top notch. Characters are developed very well and we see fine acting at it's best. Gore and violence, yes but definitely entertaining to the max.

It makes one wonder how many real people are out here that seem like just regular folks but have set aside a former life where they operated in dark places. The heroes of our world.

Good Cop Show
4 September 2014
First, I'm a 30 year retired cop. This excellent screenplay and acting really set me back on my heels. This is a pretty accurate show on procedures and politics. In reality the norm is heads will roll if you push as hard as these two cops do. Pressure from the top would squelch any further digging into the main bad guy. He's connected and has his entourage of people connected.

Keep in mind, this is t.v. but this is one well put together show. The underlying heat between partners of the opposite sex can and does occur and it's portrayed very well by the two main actors. Their mannerisms are very accurate also in areas of interviews and interrogations. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and hope it continues with the excellent writing and cast.

Happy Valley (2014–2023)

Excellent British Drama
25 August 2014
My wife and I were surfing the net one lazy Sunday afternoon and I found Happy Valley on Netflix. BBC television frequently has shows we enjoy so we pulled it up and began watching the series. It's started off slow and it takes a bit to catch up with the language and how it flows but we're good at understanding the dialog. The longer we watched the more we became engrossed in the story line. I'm a retired cop after 30 years on the job and yes there were some minor flaws in basic cop stuff but I'm forgiving ....it's a show, not reality. The writing and acting were impeccable. The story flows and the many strands of the story began to come into one main story. We recommend you just sit and watch as it unfolds, you will enjoy the story. The individual actors had their characters spot on and really developed their individualism. Human behavior and rationalization of ones actions were mingled throughout the characters. Despicable, weak minded individuals, criminal types and then the sociopath one that really stands out from the minor league criminals...it's all in this show. Honestly, we watched the entire series ( 6 hours ) in one afternoon and evening. I've already checked and noted that the BBC has renewed the show for another season so we can see the Sergeant build her character even more, along with the supporting cast.

Overall Good movie
29 July 2014
This was one of the most gruesome movies with special effects. The story has holes in it as does the characters here and there. Having worked with the DEA on cases I can say I'd never seen this type of renegade action from a squad or unit. Narcs are a different kind of cop and do get crazy acting with their pals off duty, just like any elite units...police or military. When it's time to go to work, they get serious and the professionalism kicks in. The special effects are top notch and gruesome as I said. The bodies, the autopsies, etc. looked very realistic.

One thing that stood out to me was Ms. Enos acting. She did an excellent job portraying a strung out, crazy ass bitch. Her mannerisms and behavior were that of a true doper. I've understood that the original movie was like 3 hrs. but had a better flow to the story.

Whoever did the special effects and advisors that trained these actors did a pretty good job teaching them entry techniques and how to handle weapons. The body and head shots looked very real. Again, being on gory crime scenes in real life and the viciousness of the streets...this movie has it down.

Company of Heroes (2013 Video)

OK but so many inaccuracies
12 May 2014
I always look forward to a good WW 2 movie or TV show but I noted so many issues with this movie. The rifles the American soldiers are carrying are British Enfields, a .303 bolt action that American soldiers did not carry. M-1 Garands, M-1 Carbines, maybe a .45 Grease Gun, B.A.R. Would have been correct. The Thompsons are fine but those rifles are all wrong. The uniforms are slightly off too. Flags worn are wrong for the period as are some ranks displayed. The German uniforms are all mixed up with SS, Wehrmacht and even Luftwaffe blends of various rank and insignia.

There are some fine actors in this film such as Tom Sizemore from Saving Private Ryan, Heat, etc. He's making a comeback after some poor choices in his life. Hopefully he will stay on the wagon and keep his sights on his acting career. Vinnie Jones, a fine actor and usually a bad guy did good. Mixed in with some cameos by Neal McDonough, etc. There are some fine younger actors in the film but overall the production fell short in many areas.

The movie does not have the quality of SPR or Band of Brothers, etc.

Absolutely Excellent
18 February 2014
This entire series keeps keeps you guessing. The acting is top notch, the various plots are top notch , and the the pieces all come together. The ruthlessness and absolute lack of human feelings just shows in the characters. The writer is outstanding in the story. The way the pieces all come together and the ways the actors pull off their mannerisms, facial and behavioral actions all show the ensembles professionalism. Netflix has made an excellent intro into the drama market. I can only hope the series continues and more shows of this caliber are on the drawing boards of Netflix. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright really maintain as anchors in the series. Their interactions and depraved demeanors and narcissistic actions are like no other.

Excellent Film
16 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is a fine film and the acting is excellent. This film takes us on a journey into the world of twisted individuals and how people can become very bizarre. As it unfolds you begin to realize that all these small pieces and these players are linked together. These deranged individuals then victimize children for their own " plan " for so called religious purposes. Enter the families of the children who can't fathom why someone would take their kids and their reactions to this stress. A basic good person suddenly becomes a wrecked shell that is driven by fear and anger to find their child. They grow more doubting of law enforcements ability to find their children, so they resort to a primitive method. This film shows how average people, never violent can become a very violent person when this pain and anguish comes upon them. It is an excellent example of stress, pain and fear becoming a driving force in decision making.

A well made foreign film
10 February 2014
This is very accurate film of the way the people of Berlin were treated by many of the Russians. Very well acted by the ensemble. Even with subtitles I found the film very good. The lead actress, Nina was outstanding with her facial actions of a woman in such distress and trying to regain some dignity. The ongoing eye contact with the Major really drove home the relationship they had. The Major's defending the people against his own troops and yet trying to remain in control was evident as a struggle. One can only imagine living in such conditions and trying to survive. This retribution against the citizens seemed right to the invading troops for what was perpetrated on their country by the German troops. This is a very true account of humanity vs inhuman acts.

Best Film
18 January 2014
Filmmaker Peter Berg and crew put together an awesome film. The acting was top notch. Mark Wahlberg did a great job in portraying Marcus, even with the variance in their backgrounds. Ben Foster did an absolute excellent job in performing like Axe and as a Tier one operator. Foster maintained that focused, tactical persona and it showed in every expression. All these guys showed the lighter side of Brotherhood and then into the fight of their lives. I've seen this film twice within one week. Without going into specifics, I sat with other men who operate in the environment portrayed, some were former SEAL operators, some were SWAT members. All were men that I've served with where we have been tasked to the point of a firefight. Nothing even close to the Hell Marcus and these fine men went through. The Brotherhood and team spirit that is real was shown in this film to an extreme. This film accurately depicts men, warriors, brothers, loss and humanity. This is the proper way to honor these men, show they are human and a how they are patriots.
