Ratchet & Clank (2002)
Ratchet and Clank - 20 years revisited
I grew up playing this game. A lot of the PS1 and PS2 games are classics, but there are some that do not age very well.
I started playing this game again, 20 years after it's release and it's aged incredibly well. The graphics (upscaled and emulated) are a solid 8/10. The gameplay is a 9/10 - - simple but easily the best in it's genre at the time and still enjoyable. The number of memorable gadgets and weapons is great. I remember as a kid saving enough bolts to finally buy the RYNO, and I still have that same feeling. The UI and sound design is a 10/10. A lot of modern games could learn from the UI and sound design to be honest.
This is one of the best action adventure games ever made and it deserves to still be played!
Sherlock Holmes (2009)
The action scenes carry this movie...
...But only because there's a lot of them. The number of different action scenes here is really astounding. It's as if they needed something else to film wheb they weren't filming the plot... exist. I mean seriously why does there need to be so much action in a movie about a detective who uses his incredible intuition to solve cases. It just stinks of terrible writing.
I love RDJ but the pacing and overall feeling of this movie is all wrong. It's really just a forgettable blockbuster film. If you want an action movie, go watch an action movie. If you want to watch Sherlock Holmes, go watch the BBC series "Sherlock". Or even Enola Holmes. That was much better than whatever this boring action movie pretending to be Sherlock Holmes was.
The Good Place (2016)
Entertaining and Comforting
First off, this show handles twists and turns better than any other show in existence. TV shows easily make the mistake of changes from season to season being too jarring for the audience. In The Good Place, every season is succinct and the changes make sense. They're not making changes because they ran out of ideas. Each season pushes the story forward and presents a clear, engaging reason to keep watching.
The morality and ethical ideologies explored here are like life lessons sprinkled in. The show will make you ask yourself "What does it really mean to be a friend?" and I guarantee you will realize you could and should do more for those that you call friends and family.
This show is just so damn comforting. It explores what it means to be alive even when the setting is the afterlife. You'll be constantly thinking, asking questions, meditating on things in your own life, and challenging some of your own views.
Years after I finished this masterpiece of a TV series, my cat Mushu was suffering from the final stage of kidney failure. I didn't want to see him go. I watched the finale of this show for comfort and found wisdom. Eleanor didn't want Chidi to leave her, and she realized it was very selfish of her to keep him there. She owed it to Chidi to let him go.
I owed it to my best friend to let him go, and he is no longer suffering.
Another Life (2019)
It gets better. Give it a chance if you like dramatic, survival sci-fi
The first episode rushes things a bit to get to the main setting of this series, and I think that turned off a lot of viewers immediately. After the first couple episodes it does get better, bingeworthy even. There's a lot of interesting sci-fi elements and the casting is very good. No actors stand out as horrible and you'll likely get attached to a few characters. The special effects are better than what you'd expect. I'd say this show is certainly good but not amazing, and it certainly does not deserve the hate it's getting from people who only watched the first episode and said "nah ill pass." It gets better. Give it a chance.
This show does some things really well, some things okay, and does a couple things that could be really improved. The suspense was held for a long time surrounding if the aliens were friendly or hostile, and I love the story behind their origin. Some of the best moments in this series is when the crew lands on a new planet. There are a couple moments where you'll just want to skip through it, but overall it has something going that has serious potential.
