Elvis: The Comeback Special (1968)
Elvis Strikes Back...
I was 15 when I first watched this, on TV in 1987 when they were showing lots of programs about him and his movies, commemorating 10 years since he passed. I bought it on VHS, then years later I bought the Deluxe Edition DVD. This show really highlights what Elvis was truly capable of after years of making mediocre movies. It's tragic, he never got work with Binder again, would have been great to see Elvis doing more TV specials like, maybe one that would have showcased his 1969 Memphis Recordings..
But at least we have this, TTWII, On Tour, Aloha From Hawaii.
And after seeing the amazing movie starring Austin Butler - Elvis is back in the spotlight again..
Elvis (2022)
Butler is Spellbinding.
I've just come from the cinema having watched, ohmigod, what can I say about this film that hasn't been said before.
It was awesome, Butler was spellbinding as Elvis, watching the sequences from The Comeback Special and TTWII, you'd think you were actually watching Elvis, the way he moved, his mannerisms, Butler absolutely nailed it. And it was such an emotional film as well, being released 2 days after my Mums birthday (who's no longer here), it was through my Mum, my love of Elvis' music developed, as she lived through that era in the UK.
I loved the sequence that skipped through Elvis' 60 movies, was really funny.
Kudos to all involved.
Flaming Star (1960)
A Great Western
Without a doubt one of the best films Elvis ever did, decent cast, decent script and a decent director. Goes to show, when Elvis was given the opportunity, he shined as an actor. For me, this film is 2nd only to King Creole, pity he wasn't given much more of an opportunity to show how good an actor he could have become..
No Time to Die (2021)
Brilliant Swansong for Craigs Bond.
I enjoyed this film immensely, was everything I hoped it would be and more.
Donovan Quick (2000)
BBC Drama Gem - NOT a Review, but an appreciation.
I first watched this when it was first shown 21 years ago, enjoyed it then. Over the years, I'd forgotten about it, then for whatever reason it popped up in my memory again. Kept looking out for it for ages, then I spotted it showing on BBC Scotland as I was channel hopping. Still as enjoyable as it was when I first watched it. Great performances by all, especially Colin Firth and Katy Murphy. It's well worth seeking out for a decent BBC Drama.
