P'tang, Yang, Kipperbang (1982)
Love story about the boys side-a must for all ball game fans!
Not as "simple" as the plot synopsis makes out. The lad struggles with issues such as his hopes that after the second world war there will be progress for everyone and that there will be no more wars in the future. It is a sad awakening he has to the reality of lies and deceit. Lies from the person he admires and what we the audience see as the hypocrisy of his form teacher who while preaching moral decency to the class, behaves very differently herself (i am not condemning her it is actually the hypocrisy of the times astutely observed by Jack Rosenthal the author). Still, these are deep waters among the shallows of a "simple" boy girl plot. Oh, and I have't mentioned the cricket commentary that runs through the lads mind at crucial times. If you love any ball game e.g. Baseball, you will so get it- so US do give it a go. You could well love it! Cricket lovers- well it goes without saying.
Bewitched (2005)
It's just good fun! Enjoy it
One of those girl's night in movies, with some wine and no intention of being picky! It has been criticized because Kidman looks too perfect- that's just sour grapes. It wouldn't be right for the part for her to look less so- because- think about it! She IS meant to be a witch and she should be perfect. Will Farrell has quite a range of areas -how many faces can that guy make? And he goofs it up fine over the movie as a whole. I enjoyed the whole nonsense of the cappuccino machine as a running gag. I was surprised that he managed the straighter/love scenes as well as he did. Of course Ms McLain and Mr Caine "steal" their scenes-that is just what they had been written for them to do and we would be disappointed if they didn't in a "light" movie like this. I saw it one afternoon from just after the credits (so I didn't know what it was at first) in 2014 for the first time- recovering from illness - and at the scene where Will Farrell starts to sing the love song I hurt my wound laughing!!! If I had read some of the earlier reviews I would not have given it a chance. Of course boys into shooting and blowing up things flicks with lots of effects will hate it. Let them go and watch their boom boom stuff. It's a girl thing.
