Everything Now (2023)
Beautiful Series
I'm so surprised by the low rating of this show. I'm not usually into team shows but decided to give this one a try once I saw that it's about anorexia. What a beautiful show. Acting is great, story lines are a tad dramatic, but what teen dramas aren't dramatic? I think the did a great job of showing a side of anorexia that people don't really see; the loneliness, the damaged relationships. The show talks about interpersonal relationships and the healing journey. Overall I loved it, I'm glad I watched it, I think others should give it a try as well. I was hooked by the first episode. Also, the lead actress is a star and I can't wait to see what else she does.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
A fun, pointless ride.
A fun ride with great visuals that unfortunately exists only to tell us the one thing we already know: Kang is coming. It will be great to see him in the next films where he's not treated as a one-off character. But again, the visuals are incredible. If you get the chance I highly recommend watching this movie in a ScreenX theatre.
If you're a fan of M. O. D. O. K., I think you will definitely be disappointed in the way he's portrayed. I had successfully avoided all trailers so I was pleasantly surprised to see him in the movie, until he revealed himself. Holy crap what a silly character.
All in all, it was a fun ride but I definitely won't watch it again. It's pointless. Kang is coming, that's all you need to know.
Note: If you haven't watched the Loki series, it might be difficult to follow this next phase of marvel. Check it out!
The Grudge (2019)
Had so much potential!
Let me start off by saying I'm a big fan of the original Ju-On, and I also enjoyed the subsequent remake (even though it was torched in the reviews), but THIS movie, The Grudge 2020? No, it's not good.
It's so disappointing because I really wanted to like this movie. Also, I was thoroughly enjoying the story they were making! I really liked a lot of the characters and how their stories were intertwining!
So where did it all go wrong? The jump scares. Jump scare after jump scare after jump scare. Don't get me wrong, I like a few jump scares, but that is unfortunately all this movie has to offer. It became so predictable that near the middle of the movie, any moment of silence was going to turn into a jump-scare and you just knew it.
Also the special effects/makeup was pretty bad. Every scary character has the exact same left sided bloody face, that's it. And remember earlier when I said I was enjoying the stories? A couple of the stories that they were building up, went absolutely nowhere and had no influence on the plot whatsoever. That was the part that really bummed me out.
All in all, I wanted to like this movie and I think it could have been really great, if they had maybe added in some different scares, worked a bit harder on the CGI, and had the character stories actually matter.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Star Wars Fans are the worst
Go on YouTube and search "Star Wars Fans are the worst" or "Star Wars Fans ruined the franchise." You'll see what I'm talking about.
The critics loved the last two sequels (Episodes 7&8) because the writers did their own thing with it. But the "fans" hated it. The critics hate this movie (Episode 9) because it's mostly a fan service that doesn't take any risks, and SURPRISE SURPRISE the "fans" hate it too.
JJ Abrams took the helm of this movie and brought it back down to earth, wrapped it up all pretty and got rid of the nonsense from the Last Jedi that everyone hated. But fans STILL aren't happy. The fans changed the course of this arc; the constant complaining and "they ruined my childhood waaaahhhh" crap
Go into this movie with an open mind and take it for what it is, and enjoy the ride. Is it mostly a fan service? Yes. Does it take any risks? Definitely not. But what it does do is provide you with an easy to follow story line, incredible special effects, great lightsaber battles, great acting/dialoge, a lot of laughs, and a few tears. Enjoy it.
And do me a favor, immediately disregard any reviews that say this movie is "worse than the prequels." I rewatched them this past week, and between Jar Jar Binks and the HORRIBLE dialogue and corny acting and Anakin's crying, the prequels are just about unwatchable.
The Lighthouse (2019)
Not sure how I feel, but go see it!
Just got out of the theater! Still not 100% sure how I feel about it, however I am sure that I'm happy I saw it! Wow, what a performance from Robert Pattinson! I've always had a sort of negative light of him from the twilight movies, this movie completely prove me wrong! That guy's got chops for sure! The musical score is absolutely incredible and a good enough reason on its own to see this movie. The pacing is a little off, and a lot of the subject matter is quite discomforting. Not sure I would really classify this as a horror movie, which is what I was expecting. I think it's more of a psychological thriller. The story definitely leaves you wondering at the end, what is really going on? The setting and the atmosphere that they've created really wraps around you, especially given the black and white and square framed filming! All in all, I do think it's a good movie and I'm happy I saw it, however I don't think I could stomach it again.
Joker (2019)
Joker movie we deserve
Amazing acting from Phoenix!!! Absolutely solid performance. The score was equally incredible. My only complaint was there was a lot of build up time to becoming Joker, not a lot of Joker time. I understand this is an origin story, I just feel that I wanted a bit more in the end. But all in all amazing movie, you must go see it!
Hellboy (2019)
See it for yourself!
This is a crazy, gore-fueled action packed fun fest from beginning to end! Some parts are a bit cheesy, some of the CGI is bad, but overall it is a ton of fun! The plot is pretty rushed, but the characters are interesting and the monster makeup is incredible! Halfway through the movie I was out of breath! See it for yourself and enjoy! Also, if it's available, see it on DOLBY, you will not be disappointed!
Serenity (2019)
Beautiful movie, crazy twist, tearjerker ending
This movie is incredible. A stellar performance by Matthew McConaughey (who I usually don't enjoy), Anne Hathaway (who I adore), and Jason Clarke (who I NEVER enjoy). Jason Clarke's character made my skin crawl, extremely creepy performance.
The scenery sets are breathtaking, great use of color for a small island. The suspense is incredible, and the new developments create the constant thought in the back of your head "what exactly is happening here?" NOTHING is what it seems.
The whole suspenseful (albeit sometimes unclear) plot comes together at the surprise twist/climax, which for me I did not see coming. The ending made the whole journey worth it.
All in all, the incredible acting performances and breathtaking scenery makes this movie worth a trip to the theatre!
