The D Word!
15 November 2022
I cant seem to get past Season 2. Let me start by saying how amazing I thought season 1 was. I thought it was innovative that the entire cast was led by lesbian females especially in the early 2000s when such a thing was not really part of the culture zeitgeist.

I struggled with season two however because it became overwhelmingly sexual, there was no depth to the story or the characters or their development and the only way they grew was through sexual situations. Every character introduced was merely there to play a role for a sexual encounter. This cheapened the quality of the show for me as it became basically a porno for lesbians. Basically it was about who was sleeping with who and who was fingering who and frankly that's quite vulgar. Queer As Folk & Sex & the City found the proper balance that incorporated sexual situations- the L word I see has not, at least not yet. Lets hope for better forthcoming seasons.

One final humongous flaw... They're in California and they cant bump into any Latinos lol an entire cast full of white folk is never a good thing lol heres a D word this show needs DIVERSITY!!!!

This film is a disservice to the icon on all accounts.
29 September 2022
First off I love Marilyn and Ana. This story has been told many times, so there is a higher demand in how this particular one should be portrayed to truly stand out.

I loved Anas excellent voice mimicked to perfection as Marilyn.

The film is ultimately a mess, confusing and overly sexualized, the failure of the film to achieve mastery is in the editing & directing. This is where the film fails, in its messy pase and transient scenes. Not clear why the scenes shifted from black & white to color in the same time periods.

Marilyn Monroe was an icon, a fabulous entertainer who had a lot of deep rooted emotional scars, but she lived a grand life- The problem with the film is that it doesn't want to show you the glamorous part, it just wants to soak in the gloomy part- that lack of balance is the main problem.

I feel like this film should have been directed by Baz Luhrmann or Ryan Murphy to achieve the desired result of a tragedy that prior to it did have a lot of beauty and light in it.

Not once did the film truly honor her or portray her in the best of lights, instead depicted her as a literal dumb blonde who was deeply broken - that is not who Marilyn Monroe fully was, despite the emotional scars.

Her depiction was poorly executed, in an unfortunate non-flattery form.

I don't appreciate how often Marilyns flaws were depicted, as if the film heavily relied on them, I must say its a deep disservice to her to portray all of her weaknesses on emphasis in display.

I wonder if the Director just had a desire to see Ana de Armas do porn - because the over sexualized scenes did not really push the story forward. They were repulsive as a matter of fact.

I understand what the director was trying to do thematically and visually, it simply dod not land for me.

Marilyn and Ana deserved better.

Disgusting.
17 July 2022
If you lack talent for humor and you want to make up for it by talking about going down on a parent you really must quit the job and rethink your profession.

That was just disgusting. Could not make it past 15 minutes.

Im open to all sorts of humor but this is just pure trash.

She was funny, what happened.

Hollow attempt, masqueraded by beautiful cinematography
15 April 2021
Don't get me wrong the aesthetic the ambience and cinematography are beautiful.

Overall it's easy to get lost in the movie given that in the end it becomes unclear to differentiate what is what.

I had not many expectations coming into this but with the witch being such a bore well... the expectations were met Lol

The film does a good job at least at intriguing the viewer as it is an odd film and you do get curious to see where it all leads up to.

It is yet another pretentious film misleading the audience so that it can be seen "analyzed" and "understood" with too much thematics to truly spark a cohesive logic.

I love Dafoe, he is too good for this movie, and it was great to see Robert in a very different type of role he's actually not a bad actor.

The themes symbols and concepts were understood, however they were not executed well enough.

There was an emptiness in the movie that if it would have been filled with something in addition then it would have made for a great film.

One must praise the visuals and the acting and the effort as well as the effect of mystery. Nevertheless, a hollow attempt.

Cinematic Television Perfection!
18 December 2020
This show is an undeniable masterpiece. From the music scores to the locations the acting, the script the actual story, the cinematography, the soundtrack and the performances it's an A + all the way! There is an incredible balance in the show with its humor, it's drama, it's sensibility, it's emotion, it's rawness and it's realness that makes it incredibly unique. I guarantee you will never see anything like it, in the end though what stands out about this incredible story it's its inspiration of the human spirit. Oh... Have some tissues ready because you will cry. Then laugh, then cry some more.

A Beautiful Story of cause & effects.
4 November 2019
I just saw the series finale... And I don't want to give many spoilers away.

I will say though, the show is amazing. The final season deeply ties up the entire series in a nice well done bow.

What's great about the show, is that we get to see, feel and experience every characters perspective of what's truly going on, so in reality, we kind of don't know what's going on because we're just being fed different points of view. It's up to us to figure out what the real story is.

Ultimately the series becomes about the results and consequences of an affair from a generational point of view.

The acting, the cinematography, and the story really is amazing and worth watching definitely one of my all-time favorites.

After Six feet under this is one of my favorite series finales of all time. Get ready for a strong ending and for some serious work from a psychological perspective on people who fall in love who are neither heroes nor villains, humans who make mistakes and other people pay the price for it.

The one star was mandatory LOL
13 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's really easy for me to write this review as I'm not even going to try to be polite and hold back on how terrible this film is.

The problem with this film is pretty obvious, this movie is trying so hard not to replicate the source material that it turns into trash what a shame, the phoenix saga is one of the things that defines the X-Men and here we are watching a terrible film about I don't even know what. The story was right there for them so I'm not sure why they had to deviate from the source material which was already perfect in itself.

They can't get the simplest thing right with this franchise for example, the costume is the most simplest of things: couldn't they just indulge the audience with that simple visual? but no they didn't.

Why are they creating a story for the phoenix saga when the phoenix already has one, why couldn't they just actually just utilize that story from the comics or the cartoons I mean hello they have plenty of options to choose from LOL

Most importantly, why did mystique, a villain may I add, have to be one of the main characters and the moral center of the story? Why? Because she's a known actress and they want to give this actress that's popular a bigger role... Isn't this obvious that it doesn't work? It kind of didn't the former films .

Do you want to know why avengers works? Because it sticks to the source material this being marvel couldn't they just follow that trend? Clearly not. This is the worst X Men film in the franchise and I think I'm done with the X-Men franchise.

Mediocre, sloppy and most sadly of all... Boring. Cheap special effects.

Storm an African is now British LOL And yet once again she is portrayed as a mediocre basic character even though she should be considered a goddess.

The dark phoenix an entity that can destroy planets/cosmos is reduced to a basic fight in the city of New York. Pathetic Also who TF is Smith ? Lol i can't lol It's even hard to write this review professionally LOL

Ps. Captain Marvel felt more like the Phoenix than this caca. The only person I blame for any of this is the writer my goodness how terrible are you at your job? No really... it's a legitimate question.

Not only was this a terrible X men film but it was a terrible superhero movie and of course and even the worst film overall.

Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Season 8, Episode 5
10/10
A powerful episode a true work of art.
15 June 2019
As I watched the episode I remember I felt a host of things.

To an extent we saw this episode coming a mile away. Without giving too much away, if you've been paying attention this episode is the true culmination of the series.

It's poetic and tragic, it's confusing and frustrating, it's visually stunning with great costumes, top notch music score, and a story that did have a rushed vibe to it, at least a certain characters arc. Some of the deaths come as a surprise, not how any of us have been predicting yet still had shock value.

Truthfully with an episode like this and a story like this you can't satisfy all viewers it's impossible, but the story took a shocking route mainly because of how it got there, not because it got there.

I was sad, devastated, shocked, in awe, enamored with the style and the visuals, kind of satisfied and kind of disappointed. I felt it all and isn't that what true art is supposed to do ?

Ps. You've never seen anything like this on tv.

Art House Pretentious bull S***!!!
17 October 2017
I have been curious to watch this for 3 reasons :

1) Darren A. is an excellent director, the creator behind one of my all time favorite films BLACK SWAN and one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen REQUIEM FOR A DREAM as well as THE WRESTLER (an awesome film) are examples why he's so good, naturally i assumed that even though that has gotten horrid reviews i'd still watch.

2) I have not seen Michelle P. in anything in ages and i really wanted to see her act.

3) i'm a sucker for brain teasers and deep psychological puzzles ... to be clear i like the good ones lol

That being said I finally got to watch it and boy...was I disappointed. What a mess!!! There's in incoherent sense of chaos in this film.

I have to say i did understand it, and I can certainly appreciate the effort behind it, but in the end this messy film posing as "art house horror" really is just an excuse to ...well bring Michelle P back lol

Definitely a waste of time, disappointing and not very clever, for in order for it to be an intelligent film there should be some cohesiveness that strings along the plot in a worthy manner.

Also, the 3 acts in the film don't really match and don't logically add up to the equation DA is trying to sell... there's a reason this film got terrible ratings from the public and its not their lack of intellect, its their presence of actual taste.

Sometimes the more is not the merrier ...
20 August 2017
It's hard to review this crossover event.

On the one hand it was great seeing these 4 MARVELS (no pun intended) together in the same room.

On the other hand, it followed a predictable path, similar to Avengers ( they don't get along, they're forced to work together, then they get along, one of them sacrifices themselves).

On the one hand there's a great finale that sets up the stage for 2 out of the 4 shows, on the other hand there's THE HAND. The only driving force behind the show. If you take away that one plot there's not much to really tell.

The fight scenes were great, but really this felt like the IRON FIST & DAREDEVIL show with cameos by Jessica and Luke, i don't think all 4 were honored properly. While Daredevil is the main man because it was the 1st show this often felt like DAREDEVIL SEASON 3. And i'll confess I've never seen IRON FIST and probably won't.

There should have been stronger stories that define the characters better laid out than just the HAND.

SW was by far the WORST villain I've seen, all she did was wear incredible blouses and walk back and forth. I mean come on !! Elektra was surprising and tragically sad towards the epic finale.

I wonder how does this EVENT of a show connect to the overall MARVEL universe ? The question still remains, also questioned is ... do we really need a season 2 ?

Overall I did like it, but I did not love it the way I loved DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES and Luke CAGE as stand alones ...oh yeah and the other guy lol and wasn't this the point?

I will say this : I cannot wait for Season 2 of JESSICA JONES and SEASON 3 of DAREDEVIL!

Chucky got nothing on you girl. This movie works on so many levels !
11 August 2017
What helps this installment In the wan series is its clever suspense. As a horror movie it definitely works on so many levels. The location the acting the pacing the camera angles and offcourse the story are undoubtedly great.

If I had to rack up my top horror movies this entry is right up there with the exorcist. Another standout is the fact that in a year with lackluster horror movies it's good to be able to count on wan to deliver scares, thrills and good story telling.

As an addition to the Conjuring franchise it holds on its own while also adding to the overall background of the Conjuring. As a sequel it surpasses the origin in every level.

Chucky got nothing on you girl ! James Wan remains King in Psychological Torture. And now the most important questions remains ...when do we get the next installment?

Slow and lacks depth but will make you curious ...
2 July 2017
I watched this for 4 reasons :

#1- Naomi Watts, who starred in 3 of my favorite films ( MD, KK.TR) i'd watch her in anything! #2- Its a a show about therapists ( I can relate i am a counseling student in grad school learning how to be a therapist, a different kind though lol). #3- It's a Netflix series and that's all i needed lol ( Hello they have been creating hits like pan cakes over the years lol). #4-It's a summer show and there's really nothing to else to watch lol.

And frankly those are the only reasons why i watched till the very end.

I kept thinking there were deeper layers to this show, I kept thinking that since the theme of Psychiatry is at hand that perhaps its lead is diagnosed with a psychiatric condition that would reveal itself in time .... I kept thinking, maybe there's a reason for all this ..

But there isn't. Although i remained curious, the main reason to stick by till the very end is Naomi Watts, truly though the show's slow pace, and lack of depth is not a cerebral tactic that will reward its viewer in time, its something plain and simple ; BOREDOM!

While I loved, as a counseling student, watching a therapist do EVERYTHING we are not supposed to do, I kept thinking that underneath this show lied a depth, a secret or story that would truly make me love this show, but in the end, I must say the writing was not so great and the focus on overt sexually was not that sexy either.

I must confess I do want to see a second season, I think this series has potential, all it needs its the injection of adrenaline and a more layered main character as opposed to just a selfish self involved one. I think there could be more suspense, more mystery and more intrigue and that can truly ground the viewers, and more importantly satisfy them.

Please fix this show ! Regards, Netflix Viewers.

Nurse Jackie (2009–2015)
10/10
A heck of a show covering a heck of a topic : Addiction, with a heck of an actress.
21 June 2017
Nurse Jackie is first and foremost and understudy in addiction. While it flirts with dark comedy and blatant humor, this drama at its core is really a look in the the life of an addict.

The character is not meant to be liked and the show is not meant to follow fairy tale conventions towards a happy ending, given it resembles life more than not. The beauty of it all is Eddie Falco's performance, she brings empathy, charm and warmth and even likability to a pretty vicious character.

In real life addiction does not warrant fans. And as such this show portrays its lead as a selfish, manipulative, lying and immoral person only worried about getting her next fix...but can we blame her? it's not her, its her illness.

The best aspect of this show is not just the character and her illness, but the result of it on her environment and the effects of those closest to her. The depiction of their response to addition is the best thing given it plays with truth and logic and heartbreaking disappointment.

The first 4 seasons focus more on humor and story, while the last 3 seasons really zone on the the darkness of addiction focusing more on the drama.

The characters of Zoey, Akalitus, Eddie, and O'Hara are true TV gems, with great story development and very memorable performances, each one could head their own show.

I did not like the ambiguous ending because I like clarity, but its ending does strongly go hand in hand with the tragic reality of addiction, you decide what that means.

Its a perfect show incredibly hard to categorize in any genre, and that is usually what most classics are like.

A Masterful work of Art ... "I choose death" But it's about life.
19 June 2017
On the surface this is a masterful work of art, a cinematic achievement of excellence. The smooth cinematography stringed along by its music score is poetically and aesthetically excellent in its own right.

The emotionally charged performances, the poetic dialogue, the enigmatic symbolism and the silky contrast between 3 women, 3 time periods, 3 lives stringed along so eloquently, makes this story so simple, yet so powerful.

Underneath that beautiful surface, lies the perspective of death, and the meaning of life. The topic of lesbian love, AIDS, the love of literature and fated acts of lives connected.

All of this takes places while the concepts of mental illness and physical ailments take place in the lives of 3 women connected by fate, love, despair, duty and death.

To call this a film shortchanges the work of cinematic art and poetry in front of us. It is till date, the most brilliant and beautiful film I've seen, and although its theme is demure, its meaning is profound.

Signaling one performance is a group of tour de forces is a tough challenge, but Nicole Kidman's Virginia Wolf would break any heart with her undeniable raw portrayal of sadness, loneliness and desperation.

Rings (2017)

Lets be fair, This was good. Not a masterpiece, but very good.
7 June 2017
I was surprised to read so many negative reviews .. why ?

Personally i liked it a lot, it had a strong back story that explains how the story can move forward in other directions.

I think its a better film than the Ring 2, though its not really scary, and it does borrow a lot from the original, it is suspenseful and very smart and had a twist we did not see coming.

Maybe if the film were R rated and targeted at adults with an adult lead it would have faired better ...but for better or worse they went down this route turning it into a teen thriller.

Overall it was a good movie,a good follow up with a great ending that poses many questions that should be explored in future films.

The music, the cinematography and the "throwbacks" to the first film were nostalgic and any fan of the original can appreciate this.

Overall its a film that blends an original take of this franchise by using its classic roots, and if you ask me it merged really well giving birth to a unique take on an old story. Final Grade, B+

Wonder Woman (2017)

It's not a movie ... it's a movement ! one worth the wait !
6 June 2017
I don't know how to describe this film, this movie.

That's because its more than just a film, its a movement. One that should have been made decades ago, but was made now and it was worth the wait.

Gal Gadot is tremendous as Wonder Woman, what makes her so fierce? The sexy costume? the awesome fight scenes ? how stunningly beautiful she is? the fact that she's a woman?

NO.

It's her naiveté, her humor, her display of compassion, her sweetness and her innocence. And yes its also her stunning beauty, her strength and her charisma. It's rare to find an actor so perfect for a role, nail it so well and be so well liked.

What rises the film above the rest is not just wonderful Gadot, its the director. The film is incredibly well made with excellent visual sand cinematography. Part mythology, part male fantasy, part awesome fights, part locations, and mainly great character development. The fact that it's a woman who directed is what makes it a big deal. A female lead led by a female director in the best DC installment in years... yes, its not a conversation, its a movement. One that is bound to start a trend. A trend that says:

WOMEN ARE HERE. WOMEN ARE STRONG. YOU CAN LOOK UPTO A WOMAN. WOMEN CAN LEAD. WOMAN CAN BREAK RECORDS. AND WOMEN CAN DO IT ALL.

Like i said, its so much more than just a film, its a movement, and as man, as a feminist, and as an inpatient superhero fan waiting for a good DC film i am beyond satisfied and proud to be part of the movement.

Eagerly waiting for a sequel.

Feud (2017–2024)

Treatment of women in Hollywood .. Professional rivalries .. Divas and Glamour ! A Knockout!
23 April 2017
Feud tackled something I've had in mind for years ..

What ever happened to Joan and Bette ? We've seen their movies, and we know of their rivalries, but no one until now has decided to put together something as nearly perfect as this project.

To begin with its not a biography, but it might as well be because even tough its a fiction show, it draws upon real people chronicling in real time frame past events. To mix fiction and non fiction in a non linear way is pure perfection.

But the true brilliance of the show is not just Ryan Murphy or its artistic direction or costume design of old Hollywood era, its the leads. Both Susan Sarrandon and especially Jessica Lange are just marbles to watch. Both portrayals were delicious, incredibly sad, glamorous, relatable and acted to perfection, most definitely Emmy would be contenders.

In the end thought, what i saw was a story of the treatment of women in old Hollywood, and i say old because times have truly changed, and most importantly how desperate studios were so as to go so as far as to create this horrible feud. In the end i saw a story of loneliness and fierce competition and its effects, but most of all i saw a love story ... a story of two women who were nearly equal in all measures even though they opposed in most aspects, a love story of two women who were doomed to be rivals from the start ...wethter they wanted that or not ...

Then ending gave us what fans hoped things would have been ... and for that i am grateful, because the true tragic ending is definitely not designed to answer questions.

Im not giving it a higher grade because something this perfect should have lasted longer than 8 episodes ...

As a final thought, I think this show should be seen by everyone for its heartbreaking portrayal of misogyny and raw arrogance and its underlying destructive side effects.

Final Grade ...

Girls (2012–2017)
8/10
Before Sex and the City and Golden Girls, they were … GIRLS!
16 April 2017
You can't talk about Girls without mentioning the other 2 shows that involve 4 women who were friends, all in the East Coast, just from different chronological ages … Sex and the City and Golden Girls. Both were phenomenoms in their time that used humor, albeit dark humor, to address their generational themes.

And then there's Girls …

At first It looked like a wannabe that would fill in the shoes of those classics, and slowly over the years it was clear Girls was nothing like those shows, it actually reveled in its fierce opposition. Like those shows however, they involved an important 5th character …

The city, in this case Brooklyn!

When Girls debuted 6 years ago Brooklyn was entering its trend of becoming the next Manhattan, the show strongly banked on its surrounding to tell a story. However, the story that Girls told was about young women growing up and how messy it is mixed with all the realistic mistakes we make along the way. The show was raw and brutal and real, which made it relatable and frustrating at times.

In the end, what it achieved was what it set out to do, introduce the voice of this generation or the "millennials" generation, it depicted them strongly and showed what it's like living as a girl in Brooklyn New York, how to navigate the professional world, the academic world, friendships, and romantic relationships ..plus lots and lots of naked Hannah lol. It showed us what it's like to mess up and get back up.

Culturally the show had many strong stand alone episodes, usually the ones that focus on one specific character, for me the final 2 seasons, 5 and 6 were both a masterpiece. Each depicted the maturity of growing up and broke the mold that that previous 4 seasons had established.

Whether you loved it or hated, you can't deny its strong cultural message and its unavoidable link to the other 2 classics it often gets compared to. The thing is, and to put it quite simply, before they were Golden Girls, there was Sex and the City and before Sex and the City there's the initial entry, GIRLS. A story that actually needed to be told and that was hilariously and honestly told, and for that it will always be remembered.

In real life there are not always happy endings, friendships don't always survive, relationships don't always make it, things don't always make sense and sometimes, emotional heart warming moments are not what define human interactions. Girls brutally smaked the audience in the face with its brutal honesty and seriously unlikeable characters at times and it did it until the very end.

I must say, its final episode was terribly unfulfilling, unsatisfying and incredibly disappointing and uninspiring. But I'll keep in mind as my finale the penultimate episode of the series for the closing shot.

To sum GIRLS up in a dialogue between 2 of the ladies this easily summarizes the series brilliantly :

"We were all doing our best" …"Our best was awful" "Worst best" Final Grade A

There's bad .. and then there's this ... DC Can't seem to get it right.
16 April 2017
So Batman makes a few cameos ... (even though its a film about the villains )

The Flash made a cameo ...

There's a main "villain" called the enchantress ...

The joker got a bad version portrayal .... dramatic and not in a good way lol

There's an intro to the 4/5 main characters each with their special powers (as narrated by VD) LOL

Oh and Viola Davis is in the movie lol

and finally, there's a soundtrack to go with every character lol ...

My god this sounds so over convoluted lol ...thats because it is !

Its messy and weird and sloppy ..with a lot of music. Its unfocused and not at all visually attractive. Rooting for the villain is not a good concept, it blurs the lines when its time to root for the good guys.

It is fun in a silly (it does not take itself too seriously kid of way) but it certainly does not deserve a sequel. Its comedic tone and terrible dialogue were insulting ....

oh and Kitana is in it ...

Britney Ever After (2017 TV Movie)
1/10
An opportunity for greatness missed and turned into the cartoonish mess it was expected it be.
18 February 2017
Initially from the opening shots it felt like I was watching an SNL version of Britney's life ..From the cooky vibe, to the tacky accent to the overly hyped up 9 year old silly girl performance of the lead, I knew I was watching a joke and a disaster, but I was curious.

The girl has 0 sex appeal nor conviction nor even physical attractiveness (with all due respect to her off course) but its insulting to one the biggest pop icons in the world who's known for being sexy, sultry and physically perfect.

I assumed they could not use the real music for copy right infringement issues that could result in a law suit, and that is what happens when you make a movie about someone whose life is not even half way through being lived and does not approve of the story. That affected the story GREATLY ! Not a single Britney song lol

There are levels of bad, and I came into this with poor expectations, but it surprised me just how truly horrid it was, the acting the direction, the story layout, above all the lead, and everything in between. The amateurish direction, the poor production values and the terrible cast truly destroyed a powerful story into a messy, clichéd film.

An opportunity to recreate greatness and capture vulnerability, iconic moments of real life, style and inspiration missed.

Worst Director in Hollywood ! Destroyed a Masterpiece !
3 February 2017
The original El Secreto ... is one of the best Latin thrillers in recent memory.

Its a hypnotic, haunting and suspenseful legal drama with a killer of an ending. Imagine my surprise when i learned it would be getting a remake. Not just any remake but a remake with 2 of my favorite actors (Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts) and an incredible supporting cast.

Herein comes the obvious, if the story is perfect, because everyone who's seen the original will vouch, and the actors are top notch, what might be the problem ? ... the director.

He poorly built the suspense of the story and switched a few things around in an attempt to be original that simply did not fly. He took a story that could have been saved in the ending, the big moment, instead, he treated it superficially and rushed.

The original reveal made the original film a devastating experience to watch, leaving the viewed haunted of what had transcribed, here however, the director basically gave the ending away beforehand and simply lacked the skills of creating a moment of dread, devoid of emotion, by so diminishing the original work.

Overall I had a very hard time staying engaged in watching a complete mess of a remake.

Hollywood, please never hire this person to direct any more remakes of classics in the near future ..Thank you!

Regards, The World !

Deserves more acknowledgement ...good underrated film.
29 January 2017
Wes Craven was attached to this project which should be enough for me to watch ...

That being said its got excellent cinematography for its time, perfect music score, good acting and sexy beautiful girls ...and what do you know, an original horror plot.

I found this film to have a great ambiance and artsy vibe, the location elevated the film and the death scenes were similar to those of Dario Argento .. (suspiria).

The ending was a bit blotchy, but overall the film was very good with great scares, you can tell while watching it that its something created by the master behind SCREAM!

It truly deserves a higher rating and more acknowledgement ... and even a remake ... (under tim burton or wan?)

Ps. Be wary of the Amish lol

Wheres Emily Blunts Oscar nomination ?....
25 January 2017
First and foremost, what stands out in the film is Emily Blunts performance, she was able to confuse you and make you feel utter sympathy and for a character played with despair and melancholy.

Second, I did not see the twist coming in the end, however the finale did feel uneven. As a character study on a very "sad girl" this definitely works, as a thriller/mystery it certainly does as well. What fails is the direction of the film, especially towards the end.

There are some loose ends that don't quite connect or are left hanging.

What saves the movie is the powerful emotional performance that deserves strong attention.

I am making an effort not to spoil it with my review which is why it can't be too detailed, but once you see it you'll understand. The overpopulated characters are there to support a story that is not necessarily suppurating them, if that makes any sense.

In the end it's a story about betrayal, motherhood, lust, identity and confusion.

The Thing (1982)

There's a reason this film originally got poor reviews ...
22 January 2017
As to how this movie became a cult favorite is beyond me ..

This film not only lacked in imagination and was filled with dull moments, but there was nothing tense nor suspenseful about it.

The special effects were good enough for its times, and the ambiance was fantastic and essentially the plot focused on paranoia is a good one..but here lies the problem ...

The suspense and tension was not cleverly executed, it was dragged down making only the top notch special effects pop.

The film did not have a single female character which could have added a romantic element, no absolute humor and no fear factor aside from the ugly 'thing'.

Bored through most of this dragged dull mess i regret investing a single second. Alas, its done and so please learn from me : Don't watch it or you'll be bored to death.

I just can't seem to be a john carpenter fan ... i get disappointed with all his films.
