Mending Fences (2009 TV Movie)
2/10
Spoiled by music music music
28 June 2011
I tried to watch this made for TV movie today, but had to give up after half an hour. Why may you ask?

Simply that the dialogue could not be heard due to the constant non stop music. What is it about Larry Levinson productions or Hallmark Films that we have to have music, music, and more music all the time?

The personnel who arrange for non stop music in these budget production films should be castrated and boiled in their own oil. Music is fine in the right place and can enhance a film and often does, but to play music non stop, especially over the actor's dialogue is totally wrong.

Perhaps they feel the film cannot stand on it's own feet without non-stop music, but they have made a big mistake.

a load of rubbish
24 June 2008
This has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. The DVD was given to me free with an order I placed online for non DVD related items.

No wonder they were given away, surely no one could part with money for this drivel.

How some reviewers can say they found it hilarious beggars belief, the person who includes it in the worst five films ever has got it spot on.

How on earth a talented actor like Philip Seymour Hoffman could get involved in this rubbish is unbelievable. Mostly toilet humour and badly done at that.

Anyone wanting to be entertained should avoid this at all costs.

what a load of rubbish
5 December 2007
This has to be one of the worst films ever made. It is utterly abysmal. It is so bad it makes Ed Wood's "Plan 9 from outer space" seem like a masterpiece. How talented actors like Shelley Winters, Lee Grant and Peter Falk could have become interested in this fiasco beggars belief. How on earth could it have nominated for an Oscar for the photography beggars belief. There must have been some real turkeys that year. Well IMDb insist on 10 lines, so as I have nothing further to add about this turkey here goes, It is rubbish rubbish rubbish. It is stupid stupid stupid. It is appalling, crass, and i'm afraid iv'e run out of adjectives, but believe me it really is RUBBISH

The Queen (2006)
4/10
ridiculous film
5 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I have just seen this film for the first time, shown on British terrestrial television last week. It is quite one of the most ridiculous films I have ever endured. Firstly HM the Queen is awakened to be told of Diana's death. She is in bed with husband Phil the Greek. Do the writers of this expect us to believe they share a bed? No way, it is common knowledge that they have different bedrooms. When the Queen drives Phil and herself around the Balmoral Estate they do not fasten their seat belts. Are we expected to believe that after what happened to Di they would be so foolish? When Queenie starts to cry when she is alone on her estate she proceeds to wipe her nose with her large neck scarf. Are we really expected to believe that one does not have a hankie? In several scenes the telephones used in Balmoral are two tone green or grey that date from the sixties, yet in one scene HM uses a very modern phone that has a speaker-set and sits alongside one of the obsolescent phones. How did Sylvia Sims not receive an Oscar nomination? Her portrayal of the dotty Old Queen Mum was spot on. Mr Blair was almost portrayed as a buffoon. As I said before this really is a stupid film. Because of Sims and Helen Mirren I'll give it a score of 4, but really it is load of rubbish.

beautiful film get's better with every viewing
4 October 2005
I watched this masterpiece on BBC4 yesterday evening (see IMDb message board "BBC are showing this"). I first saw it on terrestrial TV some years ago.I purchased a box-set of Powell and Pressburger films about twelve months ago which included this film, A Matter Of Life And Death and The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp. I remember wishing at the time that Black Narcissus or The Red Shoes had been included instead of IKWIG. Nevertheless I have watched the film on DVD twice and again on British TV last evening. I cannot add anything more to the positive comments from other contributors but can only say how glad I am now that my DVD set contained this film and not the others I mentioned. Not that they are not also great Powell and Pressburger films but IKWIG is a film that gets better every time it is seen. There is just something magical about it. I have visited Scotland many times including the inner hebrides isles, and this film is so good I think in many respects I prefer it to the real thing. Absolutely superb 10 out of 10.
