Ricky Stanicky (2024)
Comedy is dead
What do you get when you have an idea and no barrier to stop it?
This is another horrible movie that doesn't add to humor but bad behavior being rewarded.
John Cena attempts at humor come off as raunchy and drops the ball completely.
Zac Efron comes off of Iron Claw to this horrible mess. And the rest of the cast wastes the audiences time and further adds to terrible actors and actresses.
The whole premise is an imaginary friend coming to light is brilliant but the execution of this is crap.
There is no redeemable factors of this movie. It's acting and comedy are just people behaving badly and someone filmed it.
Unfortunately, this is the direction of comedy. We don't get funny but stupidity, raunchiness and debauchery that isn't entertaining to anyone involved.
Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
Drive away.....
What do you get when you have a great cast and music but have no clue how to use the gifts?
Drive away dolls misses the point with it's comedy because the target audience would laugh but outside the target will be lost.
The cast is great again the insults and criticism isn't towards them. It's storytelling and direction that are lost.
1hr & 24minutes are wasted with a lot of nonsense. What they thought was funny was often doesn't actually get laughs.
Chemistry is solid which is unfortunate these stars are in this movie.
The movie is a disappointment where it's so bad that it's bad. It won't be a cult film and will have its fanbase but the vast majority will not like this dribble.
Dark August (1976)
Hidden Gem my ass
This is a boring movie that has no rhyme or reason. The longest one hour and 26 minutes ever.
Maybe editing needs to be at a premium.
The whole slow burn was just that slow.
The acting was decent but the problem was no story development until the last 23 minutes...making the first hour and few minutes just wasted the entire audiences viewing pleasure.
1970's movies seemed dirty and visceral...this is no exception so instead of taking advantage of the rural setting and the atmosphere...this movie milks padding time that doesn't add to the story.
Again, the critics call this a hidden gem. Actually it should be used for the cute of insomnia.
Killing It (2022)
Killing It...killing Comedy
Comedy is officially dead.
This show isn't remotely funny and what's the purpose?
Is it trying to be heartwarming where a failed father try to get his daughter back....it is too thin to be a factor.
The supporting cast is lacking any talent and is just hurting any interest in this show.
Why the hell is this on TV?
It's not funny
It's not moral
It's not situational
Again, there are band of so-called comedians just destroying comedy to the point where it's groups of friends showing up.
So the writing strike and actors are exactly the reason these cretins don't deserve a pay raise.
Craig Robinson....wasted talent.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
Fall from grace and comedies die
Jennifer Lawrence falls from grace by doing this sophomoric comedy that lacks real comedy. Watching the promos and commercials, this plays out as a coming of age comedy but we get a poor film that takes a serious social issues and tries to make light.
Parents concerned about their social awkward child is a real concept but the route this movie takes it's almost an abuse as a resolution. The 'craigslist' approach to trade for social awkwardness is both dangerous and poor parenting.
Then Jennifer Lawrence, an actress that was an Oscar worthy actress, tries her hand at comedy and comes out as cringeworthy and disingenuine.
Comedies are slowly dying out for raunch and low brow romps. It fails to be a true comedy and it really doesn't have that background feel good moment.
Many are claiming this is a return of raunchy comedies which is sad if this is the gold standard.
Matthew Broderick, who starred in one of the best comedies Ferris Bueller's Day Off, reduced to this farce of a dad who is concerned for a real behavior awkwardness with a negligent response. Overall, no real likeable characters. Only resolution for a simple problem is with a sick and unlawful isn't a good feel good story but quite the opposite.
Fransgiving (2022)
What's the point?
A very bland introspective look at the negativity of get togetherness. This Friendsgiving was an absolute mess.
I understand a lot of the nuovo movies need to have that visceral look and feel but this has 6 characters that are totally unlikeable.
The humor is non-existent and the story is slow. I think it was 1 hour and 18 minutes but felt like three hours of nothingness.
I get it, the movie went for that haphazard feel but there was no direction. I really don't understand what is considered humor nowadays.
The formula for humor is to at least get a chuckle and this movie lacks any of this.
Flamin' Hot (2023)
Something so spicy turns bland
2023, we have seen movies about products that came to be. The movie Air is the best example how the process can be eventful.
Now let's delve into the movie Flamin' Hot. It plays out as an inspirational movie of a man and his dream but the problem is poor direction gives no in-depth feel.
A story is presented as a one-dimentional we vs them. Almost if it's not us, it's not worth it. Which works sometimes but in this case comes out as cold and senseless.
Again, poor direction takes all the elements out of the equation. The idea of a recipe, if you put all the food, spices, and magic happens. In the movie Flamin' Hot, too many chefs creates a disaster where the spice turns into a bland and tasteless end result.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Cinematic perfection
Superhero films are often critiqued differently but this movie is nearly perfect.
Visually it's just stunning. Each character is intriguing and worth the building.
The story is strong and it out does the original. The addition of Spiderman 2099; just genius.
A fun ride from beginning to end, where everything is multidimensional and thought provoking.
In a year blockbusters are rare, this is a pure pleasure for movie goers. Fans of spiderman will be pleased. Fans of superhero movies will be pleased. Fans of just movies will be pleasantly surprised how intelligent this movie really is.
A pure delight.
Quasi (2023)
Maybe time for the broken lizard to be put to sleep
Super troopers was a masterpiece but everything else after the original has been crap. I understand working with friends is important but sometimes 'yes' men are the worst poison.
Quasi is an absolute disaster that it doesn't offer humor or anything worthwhile. It's not creative and trying to use classic bits just doesn't work.
It's bland and the chemistry is non-existent. Again, sometimes lightening strikes twice but at this point, one needs to realize this sophomoric romp isn't funny and just wastes audiences' time.
Brian Cox is an amazing actor but this is beneath him and the rest of the cast are forcing lines.
So Hulu plus made an error of putting this garbage on their network because this gives the Broken Lizard opportunity to make more movies and further embarrassing themselves.
Velma (2023)
And now we will be lectured by a talentless hack
The idea to make cartoons for adults have been played with for ages. Ralph Bakshi was one of the innovators of the genre.
This is nothing more than an uninventive attempt to be shocking and to be the moral compass to the audience. Let's start with when Mindy talked about the project before it was even made. "Audiences will be made with a women of color to lead a story but to make her a lesbian with create shockwaves" So I'm sure it was deep seeded idea to create a project to gain discussion.
Now the actual product is released and you get nothing about bitching and moaning with no humor. 90% of the jokes are insulting to the audience and 100% disrespectful to the actual creative property.
Taking a beloved character was the first step of an uncreative approach. Mindy lacking depth took an established character to screw with knowing it will get people talking. This is obviously a trend being used. Winnie the Pooh and the Grinch have been exposed to the same perversions.
The worst part, we will see Mindy do a campaign to insult the audience for not liking her monstrosity. This is the biggest problem no accountability for putting out crap.
Awkward Thanksgiving (2014)
It's thanksgiving and there was a solid message
The acting was bad but the message sound. A lot of people forget what Thanksgiving means and in a weird way this movie embraces family in a roundabout way.
Again, the acting was off-putting but worth a watch. The message was the strong point. The different family stories can be relatable in today's families and in a strange way was a great heartfelt positive and wholesome.
It did have some questionable moments so it's not for kids but families going through hard times should take a look at a modern and unsung movie that focuses on an overlooked holiday.
It's not academy award winning but it's a decent movie that message outweighs the negatives.
Plan 9 (2015)
This movie is garbage
The original Plan 9 from Outer Space wasn't great but it was due to budget and limited materials. This movie was made far after and still falls victim to a failed movie. The grand scale of have a lot of zombies was a plus but to have a pointless storyline doesn't help that improvement.
Movies need to entertain and this movie fails. Making a homage to plan 9 should have been either cheeky or actually make a real horror science fiction. This movie doesn't do either.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
It's not as great as critics make it out as
Wanted to love this but it seemed like DC tried again putting too much in 2 hours. James Gunn selected the obscure characters were fun but not really part of the suicide squad, so this was more of interpretation than cannon.
The pluses and minuses. The pluses, the acting and jokes were amazing. James Gunn really understands the atmosphere of movies. Minuses, I don't think I would say it but Harley Quinn was a but over the top and was more annoying than entertaining. In Birds of Prey and the original Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn was the most entertaining part of those films. Here, she seems she was a secondary thought.
The first suicide squad was flawed by DC's doing too much and not develop the characters. In this one, similar problem. Now James Gunn addresses the problem with better dialogue and scenes seem to develop better but still flawed.
Blockers (2018)
Where is the humor?
This movie hyped comedy but just a bunch of rip-off jokes from movies like Super Bad, Revenge of the Nerds, and other comedies that were funny.
Comedies have suffered the most lately. I guess pushing sex seems to translate into comedy...it does not. This movie had no chemistry and no character building. It's sad that John Cena was the most likeable character.
The people who liked this movie, either never watched a real comedy or were paid for positive notes.
Movie 43 (2013)
Don't understand the hate
Was the movie perfect? No.
Was the movie poignant? No.
Was the movie funny? Hell yes!
I think the political correctness police attacked this movie so people turned away. The point of this movie was to be pointless and to push the envelope. This movie was an escape from reality, it wasn't meant to be Gone with the Wind; it was meant to create laughter.
The movie broke a lot of taboos which I think was the point. It wasn't going to rant and point down on you, it's going to submit to one's guilty pleasure. This movie tried to offend everyone and it did, so criticism of what it was meant to do?
Look at what 2013 offered....
Hangover 3, which rehashed everything from the previous two. So it didn't add anything.
Internship, which wasn't funny and couldn't rekindle the magic of Vaughn and Wilson.
Scary Movie 5, which wasn't funny and why was it made?
This is the End, which was just as offensive but without the humor? Why is the devil raping a guy funny again?
The Heat, which pushed Melissa McCarthy down our throats and didn't offer a comic release?
We are the Millers, which tried to be a movie with morals but didn't offer any growth in character or story.
So why is Movie 43 so despised? It was raunchy? So were the previous mentioned movies. It was political incorrect, that was part of the appeal to push the envelope.
Maybe that is what's wrong with Hollywood. When creativity comes around, the public hates the unknown. Again, this movie wasn't going to get an Oscar but it did entertain. Wasn't that the purpose?
I think it needs another watch. The movie gets attacked by everyone but I don't see why? This movie will never be confused for comedies like Animal House or Caddy shack, but it did provide the audience an escape.
So everyone hates this movie, everyone is entitled to their opinions; I just don't see why the mass hate. It was offensive but that was the point. It was an equal opportunity insult to the senses. Has everyone become so prudish that once offended, they neglect the humor aspects?
Movie 43 wasn't as bad as the critics propose it to be. The movie does it's job by giving an abstract view of different areas of comedy. If you are easily offended, then movies like Girl's Trip, Sausage Party and Sex and the City would get the same criticism.
So give it another watch, it's not as bad as everyone wants you to believe it is. It has the direction of James Gunn, it has the talent of Richard Gere, Elizabeth Banks, Halley Berry, and Hugh Jackman; so that should peak the interest. Again, this isn't an Oscar movie and it wasn't presented as one. It's a comedy that went 'there' and it got chastitized doing so.
Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection (2012)
Not bad for what you get...
To tell you the truth, it wasn't bad. Remember, this is a zombie flick, so if you are expecting gone with the wind then you the viewer are flawed.
This short film has solid effects that aren't too gory but essential. It actually has character development in a short time. No wasted storyline and it gets the story across.
Again, it's a zombie flick that gives the audience that exact field. It's time-frame only reflects a half day and it is full of different perspectives. So it's a good film that does it's job.
Jexi (2019)
Comedies are dead
Why make garbage like this? This movie could have been very funny but they decided to embrace sophomoric raunch over comedy.
What is Hollywood doing to the comedy genre? Audiences have to endure this crap, look at the past entries like Stuber, The Hustler, and Long Shot; RIP to comedy and this maybe the final nail in the coffin.
