So Aliens gathered the dumbest people who ever walked the Earth?
I know there are no more movies set basically in just one room with clever dialogues anymore (such as 12 Angry Men, Dial M for Murder or The Maltese Falcon, all masterpieces) but there is for example a TV movie of 10 years ago, The Sunset Limited starring Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones talking for about 1 hour and a half of their visions about life and religion and is a good movie also with interesting exchanging of lines between the two. In this case hell no! Apart from the bad acting of most of the "actors" the lines and the arguments are so lame and boring as hell. Everybody knows the nowadays issues or what an average (but not so smart) American citizen has in its own mind, we all know and we don't want to listen the same old stuff in the most naive and demagogic vision (about racism, atheism, veterans of war, gender equality et cetera) not saying they're not important but they're not shown in a wise way, moreover considering also that themes such as these are not very related in a movie based on an alien abduction game-experiment! Seriously a room with Tom Hanks speaking alone with his Wilson ball would have been way better, at least we would have heard something exciting about life to think! I saw this movie years ago when it came out but I forgot everything of it (don't remember if I fell asleep or was victim of alien abduction myself) now I remember why but yes, it's too late, my bad I didn't rate it - that's the reason why I'll be rating every movie I'm seeing from now on so thank you IMDb, my extern archive of memory.
Che ora è? (1989)
What Time Is It? It's time to watch this movie if you haven't done yet!
Massimo Troisi is known abroad mostly for "Il Postino" and in Italy is remembered especially for his first comedy films but also the ones who appreciate him have never seen this movie and that's a shame 'cause here we see one of the best Troisi's performances where we can enjoy his talent as a dramatic actor not "just a comedian" (expression used by some, but we cinephiles know that real comedians are the best actors ever, just to name another Neapolitan like Troisi: Totò). For the third time Massimo doesn't work as a writer or director as in all his previous films - the first was in "Hotel Colonial" by Cinzia Th. Torrini then "Splendor" always by Ettore Scola (there will be another last one from this "trilogy" Scola-Troisi, "Captain Fracassa's Journey"). Then there is Marcello Mastroianni, just one of the greatest Italian actors of all time. This film an intimist trip of something never too much analyzed in the world of the seventh art: the father-son relationship. Here, as in the real world, upside down sometimes, quarrels and conflicts of two generations, everyone can identify itself in the two figures, one or the other during the viewing. Marcello and Massimo seem so natural like a real father and son. They received together "Volpi Cup for Best Actor" and Troisi also a "Pasinetti Award for Best Actor" at Venice Film Festival. No need for other actors, just a few, the right frame of this wonderful portrait.
Grazie Ettore Scola.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Coming 2 Amediocrity
We all know it's a rare case for every sequel to maintain the level of the 1st one, in fewer cases it can be even better, and everybody like me who loved so much "Coming to America" (the only reason why I'm giving this one a 5) with its unique gags, hilarious catchphrases (McDowell-McDonald's, "Soul Glo" and its jingle) et cetera, of course didn't expect a miracle like that but the trailer seemed at least a fun movie not just a simple machine to make money playing on nostalgia. Even a repetition of the narrative strand of the first would have been better, namely the winning duo Eddie-Arsenio (not at all exploited here even if there are both) who tries to find Akeem's son in America but no, they find him in 5 minutes to then bring him without too much difficulty into the kingdom of Zamunda and the rest of the film has this "bastar* son" (line repeated several times ad nauseam) as the main character! What to say, it's the first time I see Jermaine Fowler acting (I'm from Italy and here he's not so famous) I know he's a comedian maybe a good one but didn't have the opportunity to see his comedic talent in this movie and to be honest I would have preferred seeing Murphy most! In conclusion flimsy storyline, lots of random dances and songs, a flood of under-exploited characters (there's also Eddie's daughter, Bella Murphy, here making her debut as Akeem's daughter and playing a couple of lines at most). The only good thing is to see again almost all the old cast and some old characters played by Eddie and Arsenio but (sad to say) both uninspired and not really funny so this reunion can't save alone the whole movie which is a total disappointment.
