Dracula Reborn (2015)
This film is to vampire movies what garlic is to vampires
If you like terrible acting, dialogue, effects and a dull story then this movie is for you.
It is definitely not the worst vampire movie I have ever seen, unfortunately the genre has many terrible movies, however neither is it a good one.
The story is dull, the acting is average but my biggest annoyance with it was the dialogue. I found it hard to follow and I am not sure if it was the actors fault or the scripts, however, it didn't help the movie in my opinion. The acting by the victims in the bite scenes was laughable. None of the victims looked particularly horrified. And finally the biggest distraction in the movie for me was the lead actress' messy blonde hair. Even the old Romanian ladies at the end of the movie had neater hair.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone, but neither would it make my list of 50 terrible movies. It is just dull and forgettable.
The Inside (2012)
Nauseating, dull and characterless
I never stop watching a film once I have started despite how bad it is, but this almost became a first. It was so dull and characterless, I didn't care about anybody in it and so couldn't care for the film. The story was non-existent, the script was awful. How many times can you use the words 'door' and 'camera' in one movie? The camera work was nauseating. The horror element was meaningless and did not make sense. This would have worked better in my opinion as a straight forward violent thriller but only if there had been better characters and we'd been given someone to care about.
Honestly I would not waste your time watching this. I wish I hadn't.
The Curse of Halloween Jack (2019)
Like a car crash, I could not stop watching, for all the bad reasons.
American or English? I don't know if the film makers or actors knew. This felt like someone was trying to make a feature length version of a Goosebumps episode. Terrible, but I have seen worse.
Wounds (2019)
Wounds???
Just watched this and afterwards I wondered what the hell have I just watched. The whole time I was waiting for an explanation, a reveal, for something to explain what was happening and why. But no. Just a strange ending to a strange movie. I watched it to the end with no urge to switch it off, so it was not terrible. But it had no point. A waste of my time. So if you do not like wasting your time then bear the warnings and avoid this.
Malevolent (2018)
Great little horror movie
Just watched this on Netflix and I am glad to say that it was a good little movie. None of the over hyped brilliantly produced expensive FX but just a simple little story well told, and well directed, with good acting. Give it a go it is far better than an average horror.
Apostle (2018)
Truly excellent horror
I just watched this on Netflix and it had me gripped from beginning to end. A proper old school horror remiscent of The Wicker Man. The director did a great job of making this film, the visuals, the soundtrack, the location, they all added to the tension and suspense of this great movie.
Lemon Tree Passage (2014)
Lemon Tree Back Passage would be more apt
I will give every film a go. Even if it looks rubbish I will watch until the end and then make my mind up. This film is a definite one time only viewing and I was so disinterested watching it I found my mind wandering. But I stuck with it as always.
The story was dull, the actors were boring and characterless and whole film was totally disappointing and dull. A film to be forgot before you've even finished watching it.
I won't bore you with the story because the description on here always gives it. Once you've read the description stop there.
If everybody had died the film would still have been dull.
Avoid and save your time, and money.
Charlie's Farm (2014)
Good old 80s style horror movie
I just watched this movie and thought it was very good. The cast do a great job. There is some jump scares, humour and plenty of deaths. The story is not great, but how many horrors have a great story anyway ?
This is about the build up to the inevitable deaths of the cast when exploring the old farmhouse of the Wilson family in the middle of nowhere, in Australia.
The character named Donkey was very funny and was the star of the film for me. But the evil Charlie was a good movie villain and I can see a sequel being made.
If you loved Wolf Creek you'll enjoy this movie. And if you love Friday the 13th then this movie will be right up your street.
The director Chris Sun did a good job on this movie.
I give it 8 out of 10.
The ABCs of Death (2012)
ABCs of what ?
Having just watched this I wondered how many of the directors had actually forgotten what their short film was supposed to be about, and that this was intended to be a horror anthology. I thought that about five of the shorts could be considered comedy rather than horror, which was disappointing. Although two of the funny shorts I.e. K for Klutz and T for Toilet were funny and entertaining but belonged on a show like Robot Chicken rather than a horror anthology. One other funny short was N for Nuptials which was just so funny and crazy. My personal horror faves of these 26 shorts were D for Dogfight and X for XXL. Both of these were very good indeed with plenty of horror and thought-provoking too. Dogfight was my personal fave and the quality of the visuals was amazing. I was expecting some proper horror and shocks from the Japanese directors involved in the project and I was shocked, but mostly not in a good way. F for Fart (or should that be Farcical) was shockingly bad and I would personally not wish my name, if I had directed it to be linked with such guff. L for Libido was shocking too, but in a good way and was more like what I expected, with its sexual deviancy and all sorts of wrongness. P for Pressure was entertaining and shocking about a woman forced into prostitution to make some money for a birthday present for her daughter, and had a twist I wasn't expecting, which was good. However, overall I found myself disappointed. Too many forgettable shorts, a few lazy ones and just not enough horror. Also a good short can be shocking, suspenseful, and thought provoking, but I would say less than a quarter of this collection managed any of those qualities. Now to watch ABCs of Death 2.
The Girl Next Door (2007)
Great, great movie
This movie was amazing. The story is so truly shocking, but apparently the true-life events that this movie is loosely based upon were even more shocking. Most of the characters in the movie are children, but they put in amazing performances in a film that is not for children. The film revolves around an Auntie who seems to take in all the local children and waif and strays into her household where they are allowed to drink beer like it is squash and are allowed to do pretty much whatever they like, except for the girls, who Auntie Ruth seems to despise. The eldest girl in the home, Meg, is ridiculed and punished until eventually she is cruelly tied up in the basement and tortured and raped. Her best friend David tries to help but Ruth is an evil woman and does everything to avoid the terrible goings on in her basement being discovered. I won't spoil the ending, but I highly recommend this movie. It is shocking and disturbing but hugely watchable all the same.
Noah (2014)
Noah way is this what you would expect
I watched this movie on DVD on Saturday 9 Aug 2014 and on Monday 11 Aug I am still trying to work out exactly what Darron Aronofsky was trying to do with the movie, even why the hell did he make it ! From the rock-encrusted fallen angels which appear like Transformers, to the terrible CGI animals all migrating to the ark, to Ray Winstone playing a king, to the ark looking like a giant tube of Smarties this film was unusual throughout. I felt the movie moved along at a decent pace until the last third when it just became so unbearably weird and unreal that I didn't care about it anymore. The film is watchable but mainly due to how strange it is. This biblical epic of a story has been changed into a Sharknado type movie ! Watch just to see how strange it is.
Redemption Road (2010)
Redemption Road delivers as per the title
I watched this movie yesterday not knowing anything about it. The lead actor was unknown to me but there was some great support from the late great Michael Clarke Duncan, Luke Perry, and the gorgeous Kiele Sanchez. The story follows a failed musician and his search for his confidence to perform live on stage again, however, his drinking is seriously hampering any chances. As a result of his struggles he gets into debt with Luke Perry, and to add insult to injury he also sleeps with Perry's wife. Just as things are getting really bad in walks MCD with hope of an inheritance. Thus the road to redemption begins in a blues heavy trip across America, visiting many clubs along the way and including many blues tunes too. Much of the movie is about the trip, but when they arrive at their destination the true redemption is achieved, and the last third of the movie is very enjoyable indeed. I think most rock and blues fans will enjoy this movie of one man's struggle with his own demons, and the lead actor, who I have never seen before really carried this role off well. Luke Perry and Kiele Sanchez both had good support roles in the movie too, and Perry was underused in my opinion.
Magic Magic (2013)
Should be called Tragic Tragic
Just watched Magic Magic after reading so many good and interesting things about it. But I was extremely disappointed. The film was very annoying to watch and was a hard watch. I so nearly turned it off, but decided to stick with it until the end, as I do with all movies. The music throughout was very annoying, the actors annoying, and the story almost non- existent, with little explanation as to why things were happening to Juno Temple in the lead role. Most of the movie hype I had read about this movie didn't seem to relate to this movie at all. I expected to receive some sort of payoff at the end of the movie, but the ending was extremely disappointing too, and I felt like I had wasted 90 minutes or so of my life watching this movie. I cannot fault Juno's acting ability and her performance was good, however, the overall movie was a waste of my time. I can usually find something good to say about most movies, but I am seriously struggling with this one. Finally, the constant swapping between Spanish and English being spoken was very annoying too.
