Charley Varrick (1973)
Matthau at his understated best
Matthau plays a very careful professional thief
And mistakenly robs a bank that is a front for a mafia money washing operation
They have him make one egregious error by asking a very untrustworthy individual if he knew how he could help him move a very, very large sum of money and this man informs the mob about his request
There is a very good cast in which no one overacts
It's filmed in a fairly barren, small town environment and fits the small mentality of the people
Joe Don Baker does his usual good job in playing a cruel enforcer for the mob
Other than that, the movie is well played out with a satisfying ending.
Gilmore Girls: The Fundamental Things Apply (2003)
Goof
When Paris complains about their roommate Janet getting up early to workout, Janet explains that she is on a partial scholarship at Yale
Ivy League schools do not give athletic scholarships.
Gilmore Girls: I Solemnly Swear (2003)
Lorelei sabotages her mother
Despite Lorelei relying on her mother for Rory's current and future tuition and having cogsigned for her loan to keep her house from falling apart, she made it a point to make her mother look the fool in a deposition she gave that she was asked to give in support of her mother. Was there ever a more disloyal daughter?
Gilmore Girls: Let the Games Begin (2002)
Once again Lorelei acts the ass
Rory's grandparents invite her and Lorelei to visit Yale. They have a great visit and unbeknownst to,them, the grandfather has arranged an interview with the board of admissions for Rory.
Lorelei gets Rory and storms off in a cab back to town. In that the grandparents are paying for Rory's private school and in all liklihood will be paying for her college tuition, setting up an interview while not demanding where she will attend college is hardly grounds for such a hissy fit and dragging Rory along with her.
Gilmore Girls: Concert Interruptus (2001)
Lorelei at her best
Lorelei finally acts like a mother and not everybody's best friend
When she gives Rory and three of her classmates the good seats for a Bangles concert and she and Snooki sit in the cheap seats, two of the high school girls go off with college age boys to a party
When Lorelei finds this out and tracks them down at the party, she storms in and when one of the girls refers to her as Lorelei, she snaps "It's Ms Gilmore" and clues in the college students that these are underage girls.
Glad to see her filling the role of disciplinarian.
Gilmore Girls: Secrets and Loans (2002)
Lorelei at her worst
With her house have a major termite problem, Lorelei who does not have the funds to hire an exterminator and carpenter to make the necessary repairs, refuses to ask her parents for help and rebuffs Luke's offer as well
So what is she going to do? Lives in denial and assume her smile and some bon mots will solve her problems.
When Rory is smart enough to realize that something needs to be done before their house collapses, she goes to her grandmother who will gladly pay the bill
It's one thing for Lorelei to refuse the aid but for her to go after Rory for doing the only intelligent thing which is to get a subsidy from Loreleis parents.
Great scene with the loan officers who makes it clear to Lorelei that her charm is no good there without proper collateral or a qualified co-signer which her mother is willing to do. Such a waste of time waiting for Lorelei to come to the conclusion that she needs help.
Grey's Anatomy: Gut Feeling (2018)
Poor leadership
No hospital or organization would put someone like Karen in charge without letting him know what his responsibilities are. He butchers the budget and does not bother to schedule and make the appropriate assignments. If Bailey hired him and intentionally did not prepare him well, it goes on her, particularly knowing what a hair-trigger personality Karen has
California Suite (1978)
Painful
Forced, artificial dialogue and sadistic humor
The so-called humorous scenes drag on and on and don't even qualify as slapstick humor
