Red Cliff (2008)
7/10
Excellent story. Well made. Good accuracy to the legend. Boring war scenes.
22 July 2008
For those who knew three-kingdom story will surely find this movie very interesting. Nevertheless, it would still grab any audience's attention who has no prior knowledge of the story. As a start, the story itself is very good and well told. Red Cliff starts in a perfect point, and builds up wonderfully onto it.

I'd say it has some degree of accuracy toward the original story -- quite high in fact. There are some scenes I noticed in which eliminate some details. This could be decided by the director due to some reasons. Even so, I'm sure no one would be bothered too much by it -- as I wasn't.

There was however a disappointment I felt during the movie. The war scenes. They seemed very dull. I mean, it's a war movie for Christ sake -- based on the greatest war story ever told! Why would someone ever contaminate this? Especially we're talking about John Woo who's on the seat.

All in all, I gave 7 out of 10. It's a great movie, great story, well chosen characters -- most of the actors/actresses suit the characters of each role. Maybe Woo can pay more attention to the war scenes for the next episode. It's your specialty mate. Don't ruin it!

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Too much drama, but still love it..
6 May 2007
Well, I watched the movie earlier today - quite late for a fan I would say. It is indeed I saw many critical reviews pondering and saying that Spidey 1 and 2 were much better. Well, to be completely honest, they are true but not completely.

Here is the problem with Spidey 3. First, there is too much drama in the movie. This was probably intended to push the audience to empathize with Peter or Spidey. Unfortunately this simply does not work. I even glanced my watch during the movie to see how long the scene would take. Second reason is probably felt by the Spidey fans. Venom was illustrated too small. Eddie Brock should be much bigger, not a boy-band kind of kid. Thirdly, the ending was a bit shallow. Let's just say, it could have been better.

Nevertheless, the movie still serves partly of its main purpose - to relieve all the Spidey fans thirsts after 3 years. The battle scenes were great as the effects were smoother made than the previous two releases. The fact it has different antagonists gave more variety in the battle scenes. Further, the jokes were still great and quite fresh.

Simply put, this may not be the best Spiderman movie, but I still love it.

Eragon (2006)
5/10
a rushed production movie
17 December 2006
Well, I have read many comments before I decided to put my own opinion for this movie. Most of the comments are from people who read the novel in advance before watching the movie. Therefore, I'd like to give you all an input from someone who had no idea what Eragon is about.

Story-wise, it has a lot of potentials and could have been filmed much better. As an audience, I feel like the production was rushed and comprised it into only 100 minutes. Take an example from Harry Potter or LOTR, in which the movies are based on novels as well, they have a longer period to let the audience get the feeling of HP or LOTR's worlds. However, Eragon does not have this most essential factor. Thus, the audiences were kicked around and pushed them to follow a ridiculous pace.

The fast pace is also affecting the characters' developments. Thus for instance is that Eragon can change from a complete loser into hero in one night. This is a joke and insult for the audience.

I'd say the weakest points for Eragon are the main character himself and the retarded-pace. Some of the jokes were dry, but it is still understandable.

Eragon, as a farm boy, found a mysterious 'stone' in a restricted jungle when he was hunting. The moment he touched the stone, his fate was about to change.

Borat (2006)
9/10
US-and-A ------- Light, Unique, and Hilarious
4 November 2006
Before I watched 'Borat: Cultural Learning of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' (I don't know why the title is so damned long), I expected it'll be similar to his previous movie as Ali G. It however turned up to be very enjoyable and exceeding my expectation. I could feel that the audiences were also enjoying the ride and picking up all the jokes easily.

When the movie started, I was rather worried as I saw its format. It is using a classic-film format, in which you normally find on the 70's movies. Surprisingly enough, I was wrong again as the format itself became a really good selling-point. Together with the comedy itself, Borat has occupied my mind for few days - trying to figure out how could a person have those ideas.

Simply put, this is a unique movie offering a different perspective to the audiences. Story-wise, you shouldn't expect too much as well as the usual aspects from a movie (e.g. sound or graphic effect), but if you'd like a one-and-a-half hour non-stop good laugh, this is the perfect course for you.

The story line goes as following: Suggested by the title, Borat is the representative of Kazakhstan with a mission to learn any cultural aspects of America where they are to be implemented in Kazakhstan. The movie therefore covers Borat's journey in learning the American culture while chasing his first-sight love - Pamela Anderson.

Would this end of the trilogy?
25 May 2006
To be honest, I could barely wait to watch this movie. I was simply amazed when I saw the trailer. There were many unexpected scenes - some of them added more values, but some of them were bit disappointing. Let say in the case of Angel. I expected that he'd be part of the main characters in the movie - at least that was what the trailers and posters showed us, but he barely showed up in the movie. Probably many people who watched the movie already would feel the same as I do. Of course, there were tons of nice unexpected scenes as well.

Overall I love the movie. Compared to the first and second sequel, this has more 'mutant fights'. You could really see how powerful the mutants actually are - as it should be, of course. When you watch this movie, you'll actually believe this will end of the trilogy. Not so long until you see the end, you'll start wondering 'hey! is this really the end or what?' I don't know why the director ended the movie that way. Probably to be on the safe side since he also doesn't know whether the fourth sequel should be out or not. Anyway this is a movie that you wouldn't regret watching - especially if you like the first and second parts.

The story began with invention of the mutation cure by homo sapiens, and also rise of the phoenix. Facing the war before him, Magneto - who's definitely despise the idea of curing mutation - created his own mutant armies. So, human with the X-men 'protecting' them versus Magneto's armies. Phoenix? The kitty of the whole movie.

Bandidas (2006)
7/10
cute and fun
18 March 2006
I can say this movie is worth watching. It is really entertaining and can fill your day with laughter. As you probably expected already that Bandidas was made as a light and entertaining movie. The story is definitely easy to catch with a big support by Salma and Penelope's acting and fresh jokes.

You could say that Bandidas is a story of two females Zorro. Under any circumstances they always managed to get a hold onto something - in some unique ways. Salma and Penelope played really well, and definitely HOT! Frankly speaking, Maria (Penelope Cruz) was a farm girl which did not have much education. On the other hand, Sara (Salma Hayek) was a uptown girl freshly graduated from European university. Both of them did not share any common traits or life, except the bad guys killed and almost killed their fathers. Joining their forces and power together, they were robbing the enemy's banks.

If you would like to have a good time without any brainstorming activities, Bandidas will suit you just fine. Hope you guys enjoy it as I did!

Edison (2005)

don't waste your time watching this movie!
18 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly before I watched this movie, I had heard many people said this movie was a disgrace. I did not believe that since Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey have taken roles in this movie, and watched it by my own. Apparently they were right. I was really disappointed and wondering all the time during the movie - why the hell did I watch this movie.

Of course I was not expecting much from Justin as he really does not belong in the movie/theater business. But Morgan and Kevin? I could not stop asking myself why the heck they agreed to take part in Edison. To be honest, their roles are rather stupid.

Well you might think if the players suck, then I should pay more attention to the story. It is indeed story is the core of a movie, but guys... trust me... this is not a movie you want to give a credit for its story. Imagine this, a smart-ass journalist (Justin Timberlake) wrote a story against the system and at the same time learning how to become a 'real' journalist from his boss (Morgan Freeman). This all was supported by one agent who still has heart for justice (LL Cool J) and an brilliant investigator (Kevin Spacey). At the end, they beat the system with a happy ending story.

Jeez, I could not even carry on with this. Just recalling the movie is making me sick already. My advise guys, don't watch this! Please save your money and time for another movie.

King Kong (2005)
7/10
great visual effect, too many dramas
24 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Given an opportunity to watch a movie I have been missing for years is great especially with addition of better graphics and effects. But don't get too excited ladies! This over-budget movie isn't exactly as what I expected.

Before I stepped up to the cinema, I was expecting King Kong would be a thrilling and adrenaline-booster movie. However, there are too many dramas on this movie – which is not bad at all if Peter emphasized on the actions as well. I am saying this as I almost visited the "Skull island" itself in a dream. Damn Pete! You could've taken the boring opening parts and placed addition minutes on the jungle scenes.

Was the movie that awful? No not at all. I was enjoying the rest of the movie actually and so were the other audiences. Gladly Peter put many fresh jokes made to keep our ass on the seats for 3 hours.

Kong presents Naomi Watts as Ann Darrow who worked as a comedy entertainer. Forced by the recessed economy at that time, she lost her job and bumped into Carl Denham (Jack Black), a movie director. Carl was also having a hard time since his investors would like to seize his project. Burned by his ambition, he ran away and planned to carry on with his new picture except he did not have the actress yet until he met Ann.

Using all of his bullshitting abilities, Carl managed to have everyone needed for his picture aboard onto a rented ship – even Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) as the main writer of the script was "captured" successfully. Carl intended to shoot his picture in an unknown island stated in the map he possessed. Well, I think you all know the rest of it that Skull Island is filled by weird and gigantic animals, including the Kong itself.

The story goes as the original with its peak of Empire States building scene. I believe most people who ever watched this movie remember this particular scene. Overall King Kong was a fine movie to fill your Saturday night – only if you don't have any important dates.

Fantastic Four (I) (2005)
6/10
Very entertaining..
15 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Seems like the superheroes movie becomes the trend for the past five years. There are a lot of movies taken from the comic books, such as the Spiderman, the Batman, etc. However, do not expect the same things from those movies I have mentioned before. Fantastic Four does not emphasize on the same points as Spiderman or Batman. It rather goes with its own side of strengths, which I should say is really entertaining. I enjoyed this movie from the beginning until the end of the movie, although it would be better if Tim (the director) does not rush the ending.

Based on its visual and sound effect, I only give this movie an average credits. There are few scenes where you see the degradation of one subject to another, and makes it look unreal. And somehow I noticed that the voices of the actresses or actors are not strong enough, thus sometimes the audience was kind of lost.

Fantastic Four is a story of four people who went to the outer space in order to conduct a research, and become mutants after got hit by sort of cosmic storm. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) is the Mr. Fantastic (for all of you who read the comic before), who is a genius scientist. After he got dumped by NASA for certain reason, he and his partner, Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis), went to Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahoon) to get funding on his research. There they meet Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) who is an employee of Victor and also Reed's ex-girlfriend. Things get really hilarious when Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) appeared in this movie. He is the brother of Sue who later on will possess fire as his mutation and call himself the Human Torch. These five people got different mutation caused by the storm. Reed becomes a rubber-man, Sue got her to be invincible, Ben becomes a stone-monster, and Victor becomes a metal-alloy man.

Overall, I really enjoy this movie. It is not as heavy or serious as Spiderman or Batman, but it can bring you a nice Saturday night. Enjoy it!

Low intelligent movie
3 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The first impression when I watched the teaser was quite positive I should say. It was attractive enough, unlike the real movie though. There are several stupid scenes where I felt I have been bullied by Stevie. For instance, the scene where the lightning strikes 26 times producing a massive electromagnetic wave which results on the defects of all the electronic devices even on Tom's watch. The most stupid thing is it also shows a man is recording the moment by his video-cam within that period of time.

I probably overestimated War of the World regarding his previous works. In my opinion, War of the World would not be on Spielberg's hall of fame. Fortunately, it is held by Cruise and Fanning's acting. I would give them high credits for that. Further, as you might expecting already in Spielberg's movie, it has an awesome special-effect where is taking an important role in this movie.

War of the World is started with Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise)'s new task besides his main job, moving containers. The task is to take care of his children, Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and Rachel Ferrier (Dakota Fanning), for 2 days where is going to be interesting because his "nature" as a father. It rolls up to the aggression of aliens in tripod machine towards human race. Unlike Independence Day, this movie stresses more on the survival of humans rather than the mightiness of U.S. army.

During the adventure to Boston where his ex-wife is, Robbie surprisingly wants to join the army to fight the aliens (I should say this is so stupid man! so unrealistic...). Moreover, it carries on with many entertaining scenes until it reaches a f*cked up ending.

In conclusion, this movie can be entertaining but do not expect too much from it though.

Batman Begins (2005)
8/10
Tough opponent for Spiderman
22 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Watching the Marvel has been realising a lot of its superhero characters into movies made DC Comics feels itchy. Realising Batman Begins as the premiere series of Batman is definitely a well-thought move in order to attain all segments of audience.

Basically Batman Begins is an epic before Bruce Wayne conduct his part-time job, Batman. It gives you the detail images on how he gained his fighting skills, tools, costumes, and even why he chose bat as his freak-mode style. In my opinion, DC Comics has done well by covering these details because the audience who knows nothing about Batman will be able to enjoy this movie and its sequels, which I supposed DC Comics will make.

However, I did not see any spectacular point from its actors or actresses. I would say it is so... average. Anyway when you watch this movie, I am pretty sure that you will not mind it.

Batman Begins covers the story of Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) from the lowest point of his life until the life which every man will dream of. Starting in the area far away from Gotham City, the city of everything in Batman's world, Bruce is striving to find the truth of life. Until one day Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson) appears and offers Bruce an opportunity to get the answer. It leads to Bruce's training and how he gets his power and skills.

Dealing with his own past is not an easy task for him. Trying to overcome his traumatic experiences, he is trained by the ninja society. Further, the situation has become worse within the Gotham City. His childhood friend and also his love, Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes), is dealing with the crime of Carmine Falcone's gang. Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) is a criminal who owns half of the city under his control. It rolls as most of superhero movies which only have one objective, saving the world...

I gave eight out of ten, because in general this is a well-made movie. Apparently I should say this is the truly opponent of Spiderman from the Marvel. But who knows that DC Comics will launch more, or Marvel will do?

Unleashed (2005)
8/10
Amazing and stunning!
20 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing and stunning? Yes, it is! I have seen many of Jet Li's movies, but unlike Unleashed most of it is content less in the story and acting. However, it seems Li is trying to be more concerned on his acting skills than only relying on his martial arts skills. And yes he proved it all in Unleashed.

Having Morgan Freeman in this movie has quite an impact although in my opinion he did not do much or any spectacular part. Some drawbacks from this movie are the fighting scenes. I have to admit most of them are awesome, however, if you have watched most of Li's movie you would notice that his moves are not original anymore. It is because you have seen those punches, kicks, or whatever it is in his previous movies. And trust me when you see it carefully, they are the same shits! Anyway, I do not think it damages its performance. Personally I like this movie not only because the well fighting scenes and its well-acted role, but also the content. It covers the deepest part of each human being, animal instinct.

Unleashed is started with a scene where a mafia boss, Bart (Bob Hoskins) released his dog, Danny (Jet Li) to execute a group of loanees. Being a dog, which does not know anything about the outside world unless fighting when Bart tells him to by releasing his collar, is what Danny knows of his entire life. It rolls until one day he met Sam (Morgan Freeman) who touches Danny's heart by playing a piano. Sam is a blind man who lost his sight when he was younger. Further, the story goes with a lot of interesting and entertaining scenes of Danny tastes his new world, the human's world.

In conclusion, this is a must-see movie. Hellz out!

full of actions with little content
11 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
As what I mentioned in my summary, full of actions with little content. xXx: State of Union does not stress much on its content but in its "boom-boom" scenes and "wow" attitude. This movie is directed by Lee Tamahori who is also known for the director of Die Another Day. You can notice his style and screen-shot when you watch this movie. xXx: State of Union can be categorized as an okay movie especially when you like something loud with big explosions everywhere and less care to the content. However, if you are a person who sees the content of a movie as the most important issue, then I do not think xXx will be a right movie for your evening.

When I watched this movie, I have found many unrealistic scenes. Some of them are stupid I admit, but some of them can be entertaining although it might give you thoughts such as "hey, what the hell is that?". For the actresses and actors, in general they are okay. Some of them seem exaggerating their characters. In the case of Ice Cube, he seems forcing his bad attitude to the surface which is unfortunately looked stupid.

Darius Stone, (Ice Cube) an ex-marine seal sentenced to the maximum security prison because several issues with his past, is chosen to be the new xXx by NSA agent Augustus Gibbons (samuel L. Jackson) after the NSA base in Virginia had been attacked. There is no surprise or secret that George Deckert (Willem Dafoe) is the bad guy. Both Stone and Gibbons have an unfinished issue from the past with Deckert, who wants to wreck the presidents and nominate himself as the new hero and president. Obviously the story ended happily after a long "boom-boom" scene.

enjoyable and entertaining with usual plot
10 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Light-action and comedy... that is what I think from After The Sunset, a movie directed by Brett Ratner. I was watching this movie not a while ago, I should say it was entertaining. There are several natural-funny scenes, which I would say, are quite well prepared. Overall, it is pretty enjoyable especially this movie is performed by Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek (I don't know for ladies, but for guys Salma Hayek is hot!).

However, there are not many actions or stunning scene you can expect from this movie. The story floats pretty interesting although it is a usual one. Forcing the almost-ending scene, where Max (Pierce Brosnan) came back to propose Lola (Salma Hayek) with his "romantic" speech, to make it happy-ended actually deteriorates its value. But I think Brett realised that people like a pleasant-ending. Fortunately, he can make it up with putting a more remembered scene afterwards.

Basically the story begins with the last "mission" of Max and Lola. Afterwards, this thieves-couple is retired. Unfortunately, the FBI agent Stan (Woody Harrelson) who they have been bullied for seven-years interrupts their retirement by "offering" a temptation for this couple. Can Max "hold his balls under the pants"? I did not give any specific synopsis because if I wrote too much, this movie would not be interesting as it is. So, enjoy it!

barely okay-movie
8 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Here we go again with a new war-movie which I do not recommend you to watch. Having Orlando Bloom as the main actor does not guarantee anything, although some people will still suffer the halo-effect of this person from LOTR. From the movie itself, I would not give any credits. No matter how I look at it, it is still a standard movie or even less because it fails to fulfill the expectation from the audience.

From the technical point a view, I can surely say that LOTR has much better screen shot, effect, and the most important for this kind of movie - the battle scene. The worst thing goes to the story itself which could have been done better. I do not know what the director was thinking of when he made the scenario. It absolutely is rubbish! There is no stunning opening, climax, or even well ending - where the audience will still feel they're really on the movie.

I thought Ridley Scott (the director) would make Kingdom of Heaven even more stunning than the Gladiator. Furthermore, I think he fails to deliver the message in this movie because there is no affection to the audience.

Anyway, Kingdom of Heaven has a storyboard about crusades war between Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem. Franse smid Balian, or will become Balian of Ibelin (Orlando Bloom), is a blacksmith somewhere in France. Apparently he is the son of Balian of Ibelin (Liam Neeson) who is serving the King. With an objective to find forgiveness, Balian starts his journey to Jerusalem where he will find his new path including his meeting with Sibylla (Eva Green). Facing new problems arise in Jerusalem, Balian has the main challenge where he has to defend Jerusalem and its people from the leader of Muslims army, Saladin (Ghassan Massoud).

Another pity is the relationship between Balian and Sibylla which is barely exposed. Thus, if it is neither war-movie nor drama-romance movie, then what movie is it?

a light movie but qualified
8 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
An interesting movie I should say. It is a story about two teenagers who have different backgrounds, or I should say exactly the opposite. Matthew Kidman (Emile Hirsch), a 18-years old nerd-achievement-oriented, started to step up to the whole new world when Danielle (Elisha Cuthberg) came as "the girl next door".

As a teenager movie, obviously, it contains most of the "ingridients" teenagers need. From the sweet romance date to the porn stars convention in Las Vegas, it has mixed pretty well as a teenager-comedy-romantic movie.

Play the role of Danielle, Elisha Cuthberg has become a big plus in judging this movie. I would say she looks fantastic although her role play does not need any spectacular acting skills to perform. Overall, she can bring you to the stage that you feel you would like her. Therefore, I give her credits for that.

In my opinion, The Girl Next Door worth to watch and one thing that stays in my mind after watching this movie is "always know if the juice worth the squeeze".

thumbs up for Nicole
7 May 2005
If you want to watch an action movie, then I don't think this is the right movie for you. I have to admit that this movie shows you an image of an action thriller movie. However, it is likely to be a drama thriller.

Basically, the story begins with a politic chaos in one of Africa's countries which ended in murders. Then, it jumps into a discussion in the UN convention in which Silvia Broome (Nicole Kidman) works as an interpreter. With a certain reason, she accidentally overheard a murder plot by one of the UN members. The story flows as usual movies until Tobin Keller (Sean Penn) appeared to solve this matter when he also has his own personal problem.

In general, it was an "okay" movie. Fortunately, both of the actor and actress have put a great effect on how we perceive. Thumbs up for them, especially for Nicole. In my opinion, they have acted well in this movie. If you're a person who is into a detail of a movie (ie. the conversation), you will find "the interpreter" as an interesting movie.
