Migration (2023)
A fun family movie without some disgusting agenda!
I took my 4-year-old son to see this in the theater, and we both loved it. It is not too scary for a small child, and it has some delightfully funny moments. There is no secret agenda being pushed. It made me feel so good to go to the movies again. While I kept expecting some secret theme to emerge, it never came. The actors voicing the characters were excellent choices. There is relatable humor and content for all ages. The animation is beautiful, and the feeling of soaring with the birds is something people can only dream of.
Definitely a movie that we can and will happily watch repeatedly.
Favorite voices are Danny DeVito and Carol Kane!
PAW Patrol: The Movie (2021)
Fun and not too intense for a toddler!
This movie brings all the favorite and familiar characters into a longer story. Sure, there are some conveniently placed things (Adventure City Paw Patrol HQ, the special lane in the road for their vehicles, the new vehicles...), but these aren't essential plot problems to my toddler. The story introduces emotions and concepts that kids need to know are normal (fear, shame, courage, teamwork, struggle, perseverance...), and it does it in a relatable way for a small child. We're almost disappointed that we rented it instead of buying it!
Simon (2016)
Painful
Sure, the kids are sucked into it. It's colorful. That's about all it has going for it. It's painful. The stories are not educational and, as far as I can tell in the five minute episodes, are designed for pure entertainment. A child that enjoys this needs educational stimulation, not just nonsense.
Chocolate Meltdown: Hershey's After Dark (2021)
REALLY wanted to love this show, but...
The host is painful. She has a false sincerity that makes my skin crawl. I just want her to stop talking altogether. The judges seem rather uninterested and mostly unimpressed. We have made it through only one full episode so far. It's...got fun Hershey's trivia though. So there's that?
