Cascading global catastrophe and then there's this series
24 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An ending solar event kills every person who isn't deep below the surface. The science is wholly ignored and it just kept pulling me away from the turgid, depressing narrative.

The only movie on which I ever walked out
19 December 2020
I described this as a crime of the present. A decade before the debut of MST3K the only joy derived from this film was our comments and the laughter of the audience.

C'mon get some of the science and geography right
26 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
192 degrees north? Are you kidding? Even longitude only goes to 180. Whole plastic chairs as part of the great Pacific plastic formation? The plastic is tiny bits of plastic that are being ingested by sea- life. The jellyfish weren't man-of-war. The harpoon puncturing the steel hull of the boat when the rope wasn't elastic and wouldn't have had a lot of recoil.

You had a chance to make a statement, and just made it stupid.

This episode was badly written.
26 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the worst researched episodes, right up there with Walt jumping onto a moving subway. They couldn't afford an actual natural gas carrier, but the nautical equivalent of a flatbed was just wrong. Then the door to the control room opening and closing with a pattern our geniuses suss out so Walt can jump through was so reminiscent of "Galaxy Quest" I could hear Sigourney Weaver screaming "This episode was badly written."

An embarrassment
31 May 2014
From the Americans marching into WWI under a flag with 50 stars, to Aegis Guided missile frigates and modern aircraft carriers plying the waters of the Pacific during WWII, to five star flag officers in 1941, to weapons and aircraft in the hands of whoever happened to be in the narrator's script the was pure garbage and unworthy of being called a documentary. At one point they claim that no one knows why Hitler declared war on the US after Pearl Harbor when it's well understood he expected Japan to declare war on the USSR and take some of the pressure off his army. The Battle of Britain starts with London being bombed. No mention was made that this elated the British as it allowed the over strained RAF a chance yo recover. If Germany had continued to attack the air fields they could have worn the RAF down.

In the Pacific, there's scant mention of naval engagements, the island hopping campaign, and none at all of the Japanese atrocities in China or in their treatment of POWs.

Do not squander the electrons needed to watch this.
