The Waiter (2018)
Beautiful filmography
The filmography/photography was the star in this movie. The acting of the two male leads was very good, but the female lead only had two expressions on her face during the entire film:slightly shocked or somewhat afraid. The plot wasn't particularly interesting either and all the characters were 2-dimensional, including The Waiter. I think if we'd learned more about what made him tick, the reasons behind his actions, this would be a much more interesting movie, because as it was it lacked depth.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Lack of chemistry
Unfortunately, I didn't feel the chemistry between the protagonists. When Elio starts "confessing his feelings" (I had to rewatch that scene 3-4 times to understand that this what he was doing) to Oliver, it caught me by complete surprise, because nothing till that point showed that something was going on between them.
I liked the second part better, and I absolutely loved the music, the photography and the way the film brought to life my childhood summers, spend indolently reading, sleeping and swimming while eating juicy apricots and peaches in the countryside.
All in all, it was a nice enough movie, but far from the mastepiece I was expecting.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
An optimistic moview about depressing issues
I've watched it 3 times, and I still can't get enough of it. I love how a movie about depressing and serious issues, can make create such a light and optimistic feeling, without downplaying the importance of what the protagonists are going through. Can't wait to watch it again!
About Time (2013)
Boring
I'm a lover of romance movies and chick flicks, so I thought I'd spend a couple of very entertaining hours while watching this. Turns out I was utterly bored. While the first 20'-30' were interesting and humorous, it went downhill from there, turning more and more serious, but without depth or a story to tell. IMHO, the hero's ability to timetravel was underused after the opening act and didn't add anything to an otherwise unremarkable plot. The fact that some people compare it with -and even find it better than- Love Actually, is nothing sort of astounding and has me questioning if we all watched the same film.
