Tomorrowland (2015)
6/10
A Decent Disney Movie
24 July 2015
Tomorrowland has a lot of fresh and creative ideas, but its ambitions become over reaching, and the movie feel chaotic and out of control at times. There are many wonderful themes that are explored by this movie, but the movie didn't quite expand on them enough in my opinion. There are decent performances from Clooney, Laurie, and Robertson, and there are some funny on screen moments with them. Their overall chemistry just added to the fun displayed on screen. I feel one of the biggest weaknesses, is that the movie wasn't fully developed within its 2 hour timeline. Another problem is that the villain had weak character development and motivations. Overall, this movie is worth a DVD rental, and is worth watching once at home with your family, but doesn't warrant a trip to the theaters.

Not a Classic Jurassic
24 July 2015
This movie is a pure, dumb, and fun action flick that is worth watching just for the dinosaur action on screen. It is thrilling, goofy, and entertaining, but it brings nothing fresh to the table. Christ Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard bring great chemistry on screen and it is fun to watch. Christ Pratt is awesome of course, and fits into his role very well. He has a lot of funny moments with Bryce Dallas Howard, which are pretty fun to see. The plot however, is one that is flawed. Other than the dinosaurs and Christ Pratt, this movie is just another Hollywood popcorn money movie. It is fun, and you will have a good time when you see it with all the action, but it is by no means a great movie. Overall, this movie is worth a watch at the theaters for the visuals, but don't expect too much of it.

Where the Rubber meets the Road
24 July 2015
This movie is one of the best action flicks of the summer, heck even the whole year. This movie is filled with interesting characters, and awesome set pieces. It is set in post apocalyptic Australia, and the atmosphere immerses you into the movie. The plot is pretty basic, but it's all about the action. Most of this movie is dedicated to awesome guitar solos, crazy driving, insane people, huge dust storms, and awesome explosions. The acting was great, and Tom Hardy reprises his role of Max very well, (even though he says very little), and Charlize Theron reprises her role as Furiosa excellently as well. This movie should be seen in IMAX, or in 3D, as the CGI is some of the best I've ever seen. I was pleasantly surprised by such a great movie, and can see how this series has influenced the post apocalyptic genre ever since its debut decades ago. Overall, this movie is amazing, and is definitely worth your money and time.

Another Over the Top Marvel Movie
11 May 2015
Avengers Age of Ultron has too many characters, too many enemies, too many twists, and too many sub plots. A lot of the times, I felt that it was too rushed and too difficult to follow the direction of the movie. I felt the introduction of Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olson) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was unnecessary, as they weren't important to the plot most of the time. It also doesn't help that they both sport very annoying and unconvincing Eastern European accents. I felt Ultron (James Spader) played his role very well, but was a weak villain overall. I felt that the AI gone rogue plot to destroy the world was way too cliché. There were some good moments in the movie, and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) get a chance to shine where they previously didn't in Avengers 1. There are a lot of funny moments, and the best parts of the movie are where they interact and bounce off each other, and trade puns. In the end, this movie just feels frantic and hysterical and half- baked Marvel movie, lacking the quality of Captain America 2 and the fun factor of Guardians of the Galaxy, making the movie fall short of my expectations.

Furious 7 (2015)

More Fast and Furious than any other
3 April 2015
Fast and Furious is the good old action packed summer blockbuster, filled with awesome stars, over the top and set-pieces. Furious 7 is the best Fast and Furious yet, and has set the bar with brilliant, flashy action and stunts. Basically, it has improved upon what makes this series so entertaining to watch. As usual with these types of movies, the story is only an excuse to lead to some action, but there are some "decent" moments where the personal narratives intertwine between Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Toretto (Vin Diesel), regarding her "amnesia", and O'Conner (Paul Walker) and Mia regarding his transition into regular suburban life. Decker (Tyrese Gibson) provides the comic relief, and has some really funny moments in the movie, and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) provides a good villain and leaves a destructive, calamitous, and lethal path in his wake. In the end, it is a popcorn action movie, that is laughable, jaw-dropping, and a fun movie that is definitely worth watching in theaters.

A Charming End to the Hobbit Trilogy
20 December 2014
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies continues where the Desolation of Smaug left off. It uses some of the best modern technology available to create some really fun, entertaining, and over the top action scenes. In this movie, friendships are measured, alliances are forged, and grievances are opened, as the tension builds up to a final battle, and conclusion.

In this movie, the role of the dwarfs, with the exception of Thorin, diminish. This gives Thorin's character, (played by Richard Armitage), a chance to shine as a dark, brooding king consumed by greed, conflicted with loyalties, and losing his mind. This wouldn't be a Hobbit movie without Bilbo, (played by Martin Freeman). The quirkiness, appeal, and charm of the movie rests with Bilbo, and he has many great on screen moments. The crux of the movie is in the battle of the five armies, and the CGI parts of the film are filled with great detail, and set an epic atmosphere unmatched by the other two films.

As a fan of the Hobbit Trilogy, the final movie, isn't really a disappointment. It wraps up all the story arcs, leaving all questions answered. Though it doesn't match my expectations for being a great movie, it is a good popcorn action flick, and should be seen in IMAX 3D. If you are looking for a great, grand concluding film which matches the other Lord of the Ring films, you might be disappointed. But if you are looking for an entertaining conclusion to the Hobbit trilogy you won't be disappointed.

Interstellar (2014)
8/10
An Ambitious and Mind Provoking Movie
11 December 2014
Interstellar takes place on a dying earth. Humanity has regressed into an agricultural society. Cooper, (played by Mathew McCaunaghey), is a former astronaut who lost his wife. He spends most of his time with his two children, and his father in law. Cooper and his daughter stumble upon the remnants of Nasa, and his father gets recruited to be an explorer for humanity, to find a better home on a new planet, in a new galaxy, along with Amelia, (played by Anne Hathaway), and her colleagues (Wes Bentley and David Gyasi).

The movie is ambitious, and it explains the scientific theories driving the plot pretty well. Mathew McCaunaghey plays his part as the mission commander superbly, as he acts like a man you would respect and follow. Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, and Jessica Chastain also play great supporting roles, which eventually consummate into an awesome conclusion. There are nods to many past science fiction novels, including A Wrinkle in Time, Space Odyssey 2001, Signs, etc... This is a must watch movie, and I encourage everyone to see the gorgeous, jaw-dropping visuals in Imax 3D.

Nightcrawler (2014)

The Jake Gyllenhaal Show
5 November 2014
Nightcrawler follows Louis Lou Bloom, as he goes around trying to make money wherever he can. He gets inspired to shoot videos for a local TV news station, so he buys a camcorder, and a scanner to document violent crimes and gruesome accidents Nightcrawler is a pretty dark movie, and is very thought provoking. It definitely is not a feel-good movie. Jake Gyllenhaal really got into this role, and he plays his part exceptionally well. You can see that he really got into character, and made Lou into a believable psychopath, who is insecure, cold, cunning, and lustful. You will grow to hate Lou throughout the movie. This is definitely a must watch for those wanting a fresh movie experience.

Great World War II Flick.
18 October 2014
This was a good movie, and one of the better war flicks out there. The casting was great, and Brad Pitt reprises his role as tank commander very well. We see his struggle to cope with the morals of war, and how it affects him physically and mentally. The chemistry among the cast was great, and they did very well to show that regardless of race, religion, and ethnic background, friendships are forged in the flames of war. Logan Lerman depicts a new, innocent recruit, new to war. His character profoundly changes over the course of the movie as war slowly eats away at his innocence, and he begins to realize that war is a gray area morally. Overall, this film was less about war, and more about developing relationships, and how each one of the members were brothers, willing to give their lives for each other.
