Little Bone Lodge (2023)
Seems much longer than it actually is.
Watched this on the basis of the mostly positive reviews here, I can only assume they are being written by friends of the movie. Not sure if I'm watching the same film, but I found it almost unwatchable. Its only ninety minutes long, but it seems much, much longer, with scenes being dragged out. Not a horror, kind of a thriller. Some of the scenes are filmed in near darkness, which makes it hard to see what is going on. The climax (no spoilers) plays out a bit like a comedy, and you do not really care what happens, just hoping the movie ends and you can go off to do something less boring instead.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Mostly awful...
It was a wet afternoon in a nearly empty cinema on the south coast of England. The character build up was quite good, but when the story got going it was all downhill. Cheesy story line, and over the top effects. Make sure you stay after the closing credits, that scene was the highlight of the movie for me.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
So awful
Let me start by saying that I like The Orville, it's generally very enjoyable. The core of this episode might have worked as a B story, but as the main story, it was just terrible. Painful to watch at times.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016)
TV at its finest
I watched Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency not having read any reviews, or knowing anything about it (asides from reading the books and watching the original BBC show), drawn in by the title alone and being a Douglas Adams fan.
Having watched only the first episode, I was captivated. Okay perhaps it's not true to the original, but it's so much better than the previous BBC production.
Reading some reviews before writing this I can't help but think some people just don't quite "get it". The plot seems all over the place, but surely that's the whole point - everything is connected - and I assume the stories will come together later in the series.
