The Last Witch Hunter (2015)
Take the movie Blade... and throw out everything you liked about it
Take the movie blade, subtract the excitement, Wesley snipes cool factor and all the kung fu fighting, what you're left with is a dull been done a thousand times before, and better I might add, film titled "The last witch hunter". The title alone should turn you off, "only snakes on a plane" or "Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter" sound worse. Look, Vin Diesel was cool in the first 5 fast and furious movies, and I did like Saving private ryan (he was killed pretty early on) but other then that I think his days of being a A-list name are over. Maybe he should stick to roles that only have one line "Grout" Forget him and save your time and money the witch hunter isn't worth either.
The Visit (2015)
shyamalan is a new term for "scam"
Debbie Gibson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Vanilla Ice, Dexys Midnight Runners & The Emerald Express (okay I actually like Dexys midnight runners "Come on Eileen) what did they have in common....? They were all one hit wonders who had the decency to fade away after interest in their one hit dissipated. M Night Shayamalan on the other hand, he keeps pulling off scam after scam. Either by somehow convincing movie studios and investors to continue to provide him with a budget, or suckers like me who continue to watch his films hoping to somehow recapture the magic that was the sixth sense. Speaking of the sixth sense, a great movie by most standards, how has he faired since? Lets see, we have plants and grass killing off humans in a tree huggers version of the apocalypse, We have a magical world in the drain of a slumlords apartment complex, I don't even know what the last airbender was about, it sounds like stomach gas and stinks just as bad, and now we have this atrocity. Well Shyamalan this is it, You are now what Nicholas Cage or Cuba Gooding Jr. are to me... which is if you're a part of a movie, then I wont watch it if for no other reason then you are a part of the movie
AfterDeath (2015)
It could have been good, but it wasn't.
I wanted to like this movie, if for no other reason then I spent the better part of an hour and a half watching it. I wont give any thing away, but it had a intriguing premise, Five people in a sort of purgatory trying to figure out how the got there, a fairly spooky atmosphere, eternal night at a deserted beach house. but every time the story could have taken a turn and become compelling it was ruined with some form of cheesiness. All in all it wasn't terrible, but it was far from good. It was disappointing. so I guess if you have nothing better to do then give it a go. but if you are expecting a eye opening experience well this isn't it
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
It was okay, Good but not great
A fairly unique take for a teenage love story but, nothing to spectacular.
Personally I didn't find it to be as big for a sob fest as it was made out to be. Partly because after reading the plot you have a good idea where it is heading and partly because... well I have seen other love/tragedies before and other the teen cancer survivors... this one doesn't bring anything new to the party.
The notebook was much better and had more believable dialog. and a better storyline.
overall good but nothing special.
Let Me In (2010)
What a great film, in so many ways.
I registered to this site with the sole purpose of writing this review. I will take care to not have any spoilers in my review.
"Let Me In" is ambitious, genre busting film, that is a really good youth romance/ coming of age tale disguised as a vampire film.
There are definitely acts of brutal savagery, but the are done out of necessity rather then malicious. This adds a unique complexity to the story. On the one hand you have Abby, a very dangerous person/creature,on the other hand Abby has the emotional frailty of a young girl. Her counterpoint ,Owen, is a boy of the same age who is bullied at school. Both Abby and Owen share the difficulty of growing up in a setting that views them as outcasts (although for very different reasons). This shared difficulty serves as the catalyst for a very unique and close bond.
As the story unfolds, the challenges faced by the youthful friends increases, making the story more compelling, and asks the question if the acts of savagery committed by Abby out of necessity are more or less evil then the acts committed to Owen out of hatred by the bullies of his school.
This is a great movie from beginning to end. It will give you a balls to the wall horror film seamlessly combined with a coming of age tale.
