Dvoynoy kapkan (1986)
International Mafia double crossed
One of the better soviet detectives with the elements of a political thriller, drama and action. The plot is solid, the film well directed, the acting is quite good. There are many characters and sometimes the motives and actions of some of them are not convincing, but nevertheless the story remains decent with interesting twists and turns. Many intereresting artifacts of the soviet era make it a nostalgic viewing: parties, methods of vhs deliveries and exchanges, adult magazins etc... Deserves being watched and giving a high ranking.
Fanat 2 (1990)
You can't get into the same water twice
Trying to cash in on a tremendous success of the first part, the still soviet film makers offered this hastily made piece of garbage. It lacks everything one can think of. No story, no soul and no moral or philosophy of the 1st part. We can't blame the actors though, the really did their best. Oleg Fomin was really ok for the part, but he was no little boy, it was just not his role. The story was nonexistant and the direction really lame. The so much loved 1st part received the abominable sequiel that everybody hated and wished it never saw the light. The only good thing was the acting of Anatoliy Ravikovich (photograph) who did his best even in such a small role.
