Cherry (2021)
Tom Holland gives 100%
I have been dreading writing this review only because theres so much to say.
First off, Tom Holland does a SPECTACULAR job in this film. His performance is outstanding. He really draws you into the character. However, the downside is that there is no plot with this story. Its just a sequence of events. In the first hour hes in college and meets his girlfriend, they break up, leading him to enlist in the army. They get back together but he still has to go. He comes back with ptsd and is prescribed addictive medication. His wife and him become junkies. And that was just the first hour.
In the second, hes a junkie who robs banks because he needs the money. In the last 10 minutes he goes to prison and changes.
There are a lot of things that didnt make sense and i dont think thats something to blame the Russo brothers for. His name is never said. The places like banks had weird names. The Russo brothers dont have a specific type of style to be critiqued on so that is not a factor to fit in. I think the film was shot beautifully, they just dragged the second hour and 20 minutes too long. We didnt need an hour of then shooting heroin.
To be honest, it felt a lot like the Basketball Diaries, except Cherry never felt like it had a message it was trying to convey. And that just might be it, but if the movie is going to be 2 hours and 2 minutes long then it deserves a point.
The Little Things (2021)
"its the little things"
For those of you that have seen "no country for old men" and still liked it despite the uncaptured criminal, then this is something along the same lines. the little things is about two detectives that try their hardest to solve a mystery. jared leto is the suspect and is he guilty or not? who knows. but the movie does make you second guess yourself a lot but thats only because we're not detectives
Long Shot (2019)
entertaining
This is a good time if you want a good laugh. the effects are awful but what else do you expect from a corny movie.
The Upside (2017)
movie with a message
This is a movie with a heartfelt story. we see how two people can bring change to each other and help each other become better. although a couple things were never verbatim, it does a good job of making you get it.
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
its ok
I liked the concept of seeing the world but i feel like they didnt really see much. also, i thought it would be more down to earth but its not. they eat fancy food the whole series, i thought theyd eat local foods, street food, etc. this show was probably the production company wanting to educate zac efron.
Ya no estoy aquí (2019)
Would not recommend
I like how it focuses on a very lowkey group of people. They differ in style and way of life. However, its a sad movie because nothing good came of it.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
Funny
Very funny. I really liked Pete Davidson in this film. Its a good time if you wont take everything he says to heart.
Onward (2020)
onward!!!
Amazing, tear-jerker, cute, funny, worthwhile film! the story, the journey, the characters and magic made this film a must see.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Too many parallels
Its time to be original. We dont need anymore remakes or tv shows similarities. This show is basically "raising dion" with multiple cinematic paralles from movies like Carrie and Breakfast Club.
My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)
Unrealistic
This movie made a stretchhhh to be a rom-com. She literally tries to sabatage her best friends wedding because shes in love with him. They used to date in college but she dumped him because shes not lovey dovey.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Loud theatre = suspense
Invisible man is good and suspenseful. However, its not to be taken serious. Just a good pass time
Judy (2019)
*teardrops*
This is not boring, its sad. From the beginning, you realize her early career affected her life leading to the circumstances. Someone said it was boring, but how could a sad movie be boring if theres nothing GRAND to come? As a biopic of the great Judy Garland, it flashbacks to her tedious past and her unstable present although she remains full of talent and love. Renee Zellweger did a great job as Judy and may she rest in peace.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Its good
Jojo rabbit is a good movie. it starts of being a comedy but then it gets more serious. this movie is about a 10 year old learning the diffrence between what is right according to the majority and what is right from the heart.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Top 10 of 2019
I didnt know what to expect of this movie but it is one of my favorites now. The story line is not confusing, theres good guys and bad guys. Theres humor and awesomeness. I agree with a lot of people who have reviewed this movie: this movie will make you want to learn now to drive stick shift! It was so awesome and the racing felt intense and badass. Christian Bale is a wonderful actor and Matt Damon was superb! Damon deserved to be nominated for an Oscar for this movie. Both him and Bale had really good chemistry. The only negative thing I will say is that there was no backstory to how both of their characters met. You assume they already knew each other at the start of the film. Other than that, loved the film and is one of my favorites.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
AWFUL
OMG i didnt think i would make it till the end but somehow i survived. the fighting scenes were horrendous. you could tell there was a lot of editing in the fighting scenes. this was a movie for ppl who already knew about the birds of prey. boring, i would not watxh again
Revolutionary Road (2008)
The family on revolutionary road
Sam Mendez is such a great director. He really knows how to make something serious very real for the screen. The soundtrack gave me chills with every scene because it caused mystery among the storyline. Are they gonna be ok? Is something bad going to happen? Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have wonderfuly chemistry throughout the whole film. They actually seem like a married couple who dont know what to do anymore. Sad movie but a must see
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
a must see
Its not a scary movir, but it is realistic horror. a canibal helps an fbi agent track a criminal who has yet been discovered. didnt understand the title refrence nor the purpose of him stuffing cacoons in his victims throats but it was a good mystery film
We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
terrifying
This movie is SCARY but is definitely a movie worth watching. child development, partnership, psychology and horor. everyone wants to have a normal child but to think, what if theyre not?
Gisaengchung (2019)
"I heard, so I conquered"
The movie has high ratings and after what the director said about getting over subtitles, I had to give it a go. Parasite is not bad but I wouldnt give it a 10. Its a beautiful film and I loved the comedic storyline. However, I did not like when they introduced the ex-housekeepers husband hiding down in the basement. I felt like that whole plot felt messy. Like they started something and didnt know how to finish it so they just did something random. Maybe that was supposed to be the point, but it messed with the comedy that the movie began with. Parasite went from being witty and funny, to trying to be a suspense-horror film and it just didnt go well together.
1917 (2019)
Beautiful and Deserving
1917 will captivate you from the beginning to the end. There is never a dull moment in this journey of a film. The movie was filmed in one shot so you reallt feel like youre travelling with them. From the walks towards the horizon, to the explosions, you will feel what they feel and love the movie as a whole. Truly mesmorizing and definitely recommend worth watching.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
Entertaining and flawed
It took the fairies long enough to clog up the piano. why couldnt maleficent just scootch aurora over to avoid the arrow? a lot of plot holes in this movie that showed weak production. i could go on and on about what is wrong in the movie but i like how the story flowed. this movie wasnt necessary but it was good.
Little Women (2019)
a let down
Not as great as I expected. I love Saoirse Ronan, so I did love her role as Jo. It reminded me a lot of her part in Lady Bird. However, I did not like the movie as a whole. I think the cast was good but at times I wasnt sure what age each girl was supposed to be. In the 1994 version, you can easily tell who is the oldest and so forth; Amy is also a child which is why she acts the way she does. In this 2019 version, I found Amys to be super annoying because I saw her to be very immature. I found it strange how she was mature all of a sudden in Europe. Emma Watson (Meg) played her role good but I didnt feel like her dream to be an actress was emphasized. You could see everyone elses talents but not Megs. In this version, you could definitely tell Jo and Laurie had a bond. It upset me when all of a sudden he falls in love with Amy but there were scenes to show them starting to connect more. Now, Jo and Friedrich had one scene where it showed them having fun together. It felt forced when all of a sudden he shows up to their house and shes "in love." Jo realized everyone is going to die eventually and it wont always be her and her sisters so she wants to be with someone. They shouldve shown more scenes with her and Friedrich to support that there was love there and not only a crush between them. I also did not like how they claim to be poor and lived in a house. At some times it sounded like their accents would come out. Their costumes were cool and looked very realistic. The scene where Timothee Chalamet confessed his love to Jo was really good. He has a good way of portraying emotion.
Cats (2019)
It's not "awful"
I have not seen the play, so my expectations were on the ground. This is not an awful film. Its pretty amazing how it turned out thanks to our film technology. I will say, the CGI on their footwork was not the best. You could tell that was edited. But overrall Cata was not a bad movie, nor was the plot confusing. The plot is determing who will be the nect gellical cat. Of course theres a villain and you know that from the beggining. People are saying its slow, but it feels like a theatrical musical. Every scene is a song and at some point youre going to just want them to have dialouge instead of lyrics. Some songs are catchier than others and more fun. Cats is art.
Last Christmas (2019)
Goofy, rom-com
Loved Emilia Clarke in this movie! She is such a goofball of energy and it definitely shows in the movie. This movie is not to be taken serious. Just watch and relax. The plot twist is definitely a downer but something we wouldve never expected. I also liked how the soundtrack is George Michael because thats her characters favorite singer. I thought that gave the movie a bit more personal touch to the story.
Hustlers (2019)
over-hyped
First of all, the trailer and breif sumnary make the movie seems something its not. This movie is about a girl who is mentored by a momma-bear stripper and eventually they have to find new ways to make more money. The beginning of the movie is just stripping. Then after an incident, it starts going in a diffrent direction. The last 20 minutes of the film is extremely rushed and shows that this movie used the cast members to bring attention and interest.
