Tamjung Hong Gil-dong: Sarajin ma-eul (2016)
You don't know what you're missing
Everything positive already written! I found myself laughing out loud, often! The youngest female child actor was so on par with the older actors she stole many scenes imho. It's a Korean "noir" type and it doesn't miss a beat from start to finish and was immensely enjoyable. Don't miss out!

Enthralling
Reviews are subjective and we all have varying POVs, emotional triggers and opinions. So all I'll say is I was initially uncertain at the beginning, but it quickly piqued my curiosity and turned to intrigue. This story kept me riveted and guessing. For me, it didn't disappoint and there's a glimmer of hope for the pair involved. Treat yourself. Unless you're totally brain dead or emotionally unavailable you should enjoy this movie easily.

Best me up, beat me down...
Democracy doesn't mean spreading terror. - DaShanne Stokes
And yet ironically that's exactly what happens when our government seeks a means to an end for their choices and decisions not to be transparent. I'm apoplectic having watched this doc on yet another tragic example of American government failing to work for its citizens. America may fail under democratic leaders as well, but those failures tend to pale under the often malevolent mismanagement of Republican government politics suiting their own agendas rather than doing what's right for America. From Reagan, Bush Sr., and now Trump terror, big money, corruption and avarice rules. It takes years of lies, cover-ups and even murder to curtail its venemous bite and voracious appetite.
Learning about these horrific events that took place in the 80s, with much left untold, only makes the current climate more frightening and exacerbates the facts that governments claiming to be for the people rarely are in tandem the way it was designed to be. Selling out the Constitution for all the wrong reasons happens more than we know. A lot of blood covers a multitude of politicians hands here and abroad. Sadly there's been no justice in this heartbreaking story nor in Washington D.C. as well.
Vazante (2017)
Those who can will understand the phrase of what troubling the water means and why...
This is a slow rolling tsunami of a story that few will be able to fully appreciate, relate to, understand or even want to. It's obviously not for just anybody's senses or general sensibilities who have no relative interest or insights to what colonialism, slavery, suffrage and persecution looked and felt like in that era. Hard to imagine the domination of one human being over another's that's meant to build a pathway for a proper lifestyle to a higher existence while effectively dousing another human being's hope's and dreams of something similar.
This movie is laced with a cluster of nuances, and undercurrents of things unsaid, lost expectations, racism, white man's mentality and child lust. The world is full of wonderment in the eyes of youth, no matter their different circumstances. Yet loss plays a central part in this story from husband to widower and slave owner at the cost of many. You can feel their breath is palpable and inhaling things they can't fully comprehend like disillusionment, disconnectedness, fear, aloneness.
Vazante doesn't shout out at you nor does it whisper of things that can arrive to bend and break you. It's a sad, heartbreakingly provocative story that is still being explored, re-written and acted out badly in various ways everywhere.
Miss Americana (2020)
Can't touch this and be negative
This is the Taylor Swift I wanted to see and she didn't disappoint. Putting herself out 'there' for strangers who inevitably will be judging, castigating and clutching their hypocritical pearls regarding her ideas and ideals just makes me respect this young, talented, compassionately intelligent woman all the more. I thoroughly enjoyed this evocative and intimate look at her journey to date. No one can please everyone all the time. Truth is we're all hypocrites on some level. The ones who operate mindfully in this state of awareness tend to be less crtical. The ones who refuse to see this trait within can't get there from their perches. Ms. Taylor is evolving nicely.
