Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
It's good but it's very long like most movies today
Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays Ernest, deliveries an excellent performance here. I cheered for his success and frowned with disgust at his betrayal for his "wife." To his friends and family he is a complex character but to the viewer he is an open book. This made for some very enjoyable watching
William Hale, played by Robert De Niro, is a great manipulator. He has a hyperfixation with getting what he wants. This includes convincing his son to get married. His goals and aspirations are nothing to be snuffed at. At times his intelligence seems to make him invincible to the law
Lily Gladstone's character, Mollie, is a caring wife and mother. She is indigenous to the land but for this she pays a great price
When Brendan Fraser's character showed up I thought his performance was going to steal the show. He really livened things up again as the length of the movie was starting to take it's toll on me.
As the title suggests it's definitely worth a watch but it didn't need to be as long as it was.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023)
A Clever Reboot
I was sceptical going into this because I loved the movie so much. The characters are just as intriguing as the live action version. What I liked most is that Ramona is now the main character and we follow her investigation about what happened to Scott and which one of her evil exes was behind his death.
We see each exe's character develope as the plot unravels and they start to become likeable each in their own way. The viewer learns that they're more misunderstood then actually evil.
The challenges that Ramona faces help her become strong enough and smart enough to figure what happened to Scott and who was behind it all.
The only part I have to moan about is how Gideon got his Empire back. I just thought this was lazy writing. Give us some action or wait until season 2 to address it
Now I have to wait for Scott Pilgrim the video game.
Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 (2022)
An Excellent Tragedy
This is a fantastic documentary for music lovers. What was supposed to be a reincarnation of the peace and love of the 1969 original Woodstock turned into the hippie movement's worst nightmare.
Anything that could go wrong did go wrong. I have to say fair play to any act that appeared in the documentary. Not all of them did. The only complaint I have is Dave Blaustein. He was singing over the acts and it just ruined the moment. I took a star away for that.
The Batman (2022)
Yeah it's not bad. Definitely worth a trip to the cinema
Story/Plot: 3/5
It's very long and I felt it just after the midpoint. But it is a good story
Originality: 2/5
There's a lot of cliches, the characters have all been on the silver screen before and it's a good guy vs bad guy Hollywood movie
Acting: 4/5
Everyone was brilliant. Pattinson did a great job but I think Paul Dano outperformed everyone.
Cinematography: 5/5
Gotham looked really cool. The rain effect really added the right emotions.
Don't Look Up (2021)
How up his own ass is DiCaprio?
So director Adam McKay cast Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence etc. And they're shocked the movie got this much attention. Wow so convincing
Netflix never release weekly figures but these magic numbers just appear out of thin air.
DiCaprio clearly has more control then McKay cos as the plot develops it becomes more about stroking Leonardo's ego then telling a story
The only thing it proves is how out of touch celebrities/rich people are with the common person
So maybe it's an arse ways success or a hack as ye American's call it.
Tenet (2020)
Hollywood needs Christopher Nolan
It's not a remake, sequel or reboot. It's an original breathe of fresh air.
The characters aren't overly emotional. This makes them more sophisticated and intelligent.
People are saying its overly complex but I would say it's marketed towards a more educated audience.
Baby Driver (2017)
Edgar Wright makes some very obvious mistakes
Edgar Wright makes some very obvious mistakes. He puts the main character, Baby, in way too many missions. It just underdeveloped other vital parts of the story.
The foster father, Joseph, gets next to zero raport with the audience. All we know is that he's in a wheel chair and deaf. No character bonding between him and Baby
The love story just comes across as stupid. She knows him a couple of days and decides to help get away from the cops. Just make the characters childhood sweethearts. She would have a better reason to look out for him then.
The cops clearly shot the perverted antagonist's wife. Like right in front of him, multiple times and he blames Baby.
The cinematography was good though.
Calm with Horses (2019)
It's okay
The movie has great cinematography, great location and a great performance from the lead actors.
....But the pacing isn't great. I felt like I was watching filler a few times. The climax of the film is let down. The ending was well foreshadowed but also too much of a cliche.
The director very obviously wouldn't mention what part of Ireland this was based in and I just thought it was very lazy writing. Let the audience get to know the movie
Cosmo Jarvis deserves a mention he got the rough Irish accent down to a tee.
Michael Inside (2017)
Definitely worth a watch
Michael Inside is gritty realism from start to finish. The moral of the story is a great eye opener for someone who has no clue about criminality in Ireland.
The tone is is delivered excellently. The main characters are really likeable. My favorite was Francis. He had Michael's back no mather what. Seeing the gangsters blackmail him was heartbreaking.
The ending is a sad one but also satisfying for the film. If you're Irish I highly recommend this film.
Husband for Hire (2008)
Good but not good enough
The acting at the start isn't good. It does however improve as the plot develops. The antagonists do a decent job, particularly Simona.
It's hard to know who to blame for the result of this unsatisfying movie. I didn't like the ending. Lola ends up with someone similar to Marco. He's a cheater too
Anyways as I write this there is no wikipedia page for this movie. Which I think is weird considering the recognisable cast
Knives Out (2019)
Very Good but very woke
This is a good film. If you're from a marginalised community you'll probably love it but if you're not you're painted as the bad guy.
The plot points fit in excellently. the character a very memorable. The acting is A1.
I do recommend it but the woke touch is so annoying and super obvious. I took a couple of stars off it becuse of it. It would have gotten an 8/10 otherwise.
Normal People (2020)
It's so boring
It's starts off okay but nothing really happens. There's a lot of interesting subject matter but they somehow make it so uninteresting. One maybe two things happen to develop the plot per episode. You could miss 90% of it. Bottom line it's a snooze fest
