Her (2013)
Not a legitimate sci-fi film, more like a film about depression in the West..
Same old same old, the robot that "wants" to be human, the AI that wants to be human in this case.. One thought was in my mind the entire time i was watching this... WHAT THE HELL AM I WATCHING??!! And there was this other female actress playing in this movie, the one that looks like the Mad Hatter. Wearing some UNBELIEVABLY ridiculous SHOES throughout the movie!!! I mean what is WRONG with these people? These shoes must be made entirely of wood or something. Its the kind of shoes that English maids wore in the 1700s when they went to the barn to feed the pigs of the estate or something! I can't believe how SAD this movie is.
I don't want to be spoiling the "fun" but it is basically about a loser talking to himself and reacting to himself, the entire movie. I mean i have watched many films about AI, they all shared the usual "oh i want to have feelings like humans as well, poor little robot me", but they at least had some semi-scientific background, some explaining of how the AI was created/evolved, some sci-fi action, etc. This one only has... a voice. And an annoying one too. REALLY, REALLY sad. People actually know what AI is today, you can't just say that "you buy an OS which has a full living male/female consciousness inside which is about to achieve bodiless godhood". It just isn't believable/realistic.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
There is some good, there is some bad
There are some good news and some bad news for this movie. The good news is that the effects and the battles in this movie are surpassing many other titles, in their uniqueness and complexity, fun to see. The bad news is there are some things in the movie that really get on your nerves. One of them is a weird incestuous-type "affection" of the father protagonist with his daughter in the movie, i don't see where the hell that fits in, in a transformers movie, or why the hell would someone include that in the scenario. Really annoying when even during intense action scenes the father says or does something according to that sickly affection he supposedly has. Is that supposed to be FUNNY or something? The 2nd annoying factor that permeates the movie is this idiotic obsession that somehow Optimus Prime is super-kind and likes humans, really likes them, so that he sacrifices himself over and over again and gets in danger and abandons his own kind over and over again, it gets tiring, almost sickening, so much "kindness" and "altruism" from a super big all powerful robot, enough already, we GET IT. I mean these two concepts in the movie can really be frustrating, otherwise it is watchable and some unique ideas in the graphics and effects i see for the first time, battles in cities, spaceships, etc.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)
Interesting atmosphere, good acting, no boredom
Yep, definitely one of the best movies i have seen this year. I usually do like action and crime movies. I do despise what this movie is about in real life, but the movie is so well made. Acting seemed really thought out in this movie, even actors i usually don't like, seemed to do a good job in this movie. And of course there is this hot girl Alba that makes any movie more welcoming to the (male) viewer. That leopard-like striptease scene she did has got to be the sexiest thing i have ever seen, and i 've spent half of my life watching porn! That other female, the evil one is overrated in my opinion in terms of beauty. There are also some memorable lines in the movie, very spot on, like:
"Freeze, pervert"
and
"Get out of my life once and for all, or i 'll bash your teeth in"
Its kind of sad though, such type of cities are not supposed to be made for humans. They are for animals. Or human animals in our case.
Mindwarp (1991)
Weird
Although not very sophisticated, this movie was supposed to be quite interesting. Some idiot in a forum mentioned it, otherwise i wouldn't know about it. I saw it in 2014, which means 22 years after it was made. Why would i want to see a 1992 movie in 2014? Well, i thought it was going to be some type of futuristic dystopia film. I thought i would check out what a 1992's take of such a future would be.
In the beginning of the film i thought i was going to watch an interesting approach to a futuristic film. But almost immediately, the film turned into a weirdo cheap-horror type b-grade movie, with very stupid moments, incredibly ridiculous costumes and a scenario that really disappointed me.
Overall a disappointment. I would not waste time on this if i was you, do something more productive, like scratching your back with a plastic hand or something.
300: Rise of an Empire (2014)
I can't believe these jokers
I wouldn't normally be bothered to write a review for such a worthless thing. I m Greek and obviously historical accuracy is not something i am looking for in American movies about Greek history. But in this movie it becomes downright INSULTING! Let's see, where should i start? Spartans, ruled by a WOMAN??? Lol, laughable. An Athenian general DATING the enemy, taking a break from the fight? RIDICULOUS.. Some woman LEADING the Persian army?????? CRETINOUS.... I don't think i should continue.. This movie contains the most ridiculously stupid scene i have ever seen IN MY LIFE. It is in the movie's ending, where the Spartans supposedly come to the rescue of the Athenians. What do we see there? A woman(!) leading(!) the Spartan Army IN BATTLE (lol) and she goes first(!) hacking and slashing through the (unresponsive) enemy warriors (LOL), without EVEN wearing some armor(!), she just came in her pajamas with a sword (lol w t f). Whoever thought of that unbelievably ridiculous stupid scene, truly earned my pity..
PS: despite the stupidity, i think i see a pattern here, perhaps the 1st 300 movie was to appeal (and cash-in) on the male crowd, so why not try to cash in on the female crowd with the sequel as well, the creators probably thought? Therefore creating this stupidity, this mockery, this PARODY!
I'll Follow You Down (2013)
Watchable
There is a problem here. First, the son in his adult years is played by a weird looking actor. His face just isn't right for this role. For any role i would say as a matter of fact. Perhaps as a secondary role playing a teen in a Mac Donalds sitting in the next table, on camera for half a second or so. I mean the guy has a face that looks like an 8 year old boy's, a down syndrome person's, Super Mario and a 40 year old man's, all at the same time. Haven't seen anything like it. His voice comes out normal though. I mean the guy looked like he had a head made of haystack and his girlfriend in the movie looks like a wooden doll. Very creepy at some points. As for agent Scally, well i don't want to badmouth her, but she acted a little too natural for her part. I hope old age will be kind to her (as much as possible). He is a convincing actor though, the son, just not suitable for romantic roles, maybe for action roles. The movie goes kind of boring in the middle, with the romantic stuff, then takes an interesting twist in the last 3rd or so. Overall a watchable movie, with just hints of boredom at times. Not bad.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Inspired view of a Dystopian future
This is definitely an enjoyable movie to watch. Interesting plot, action scenes, but also emotional and romantic stuff, (which get a little mixed up to be honest). I would say the main thing of the movie is the female protagonist, everything revolves around her. This actress is quite beautiful and especially amazing was she when appearing at the "TV Show" in the Capital. Radiant girl, mesmerizing face, also fit for action and violence scenes! Quite a long movie, that leaves you wanting more, and a sequel follows. I am waiting to see what comes next in the "Revolution" against the tyrant, that is coming. Nice. Good Stuff. Will be tuning in for the next movies of the series. And let us not forget the comparisons that can be made with OUR reality and the way the world is heading socially-economically-politically... rings a bell? You one of the hungry? Or one of the make up, wig-wearing zombies of "The Capital"?
The Rover (2014)
If you are looking for meaning, look elsewhere
I don't understand what the fuss is about with this movie. The plot is at best cretinous. A bum and an idiot go into a killing rampage, shooting a midget, a little black girl, three soldiers, three Chinamen, and some other individuals, in a stage that is comprised of a couple of dirty backyard "studio sets". Its a good idea budget-wise to shoot a post-apocalyptic movie in just a couple of dirty backyards. Why not? Who would notice? And for what?? The one because his dog's corpse is in the truck of the car some other dirt-bags stole from him, the other because.. he is an idiot. Yeah great. Amazing stuff there man, why didn't I come up with such an ingenious scenario. I wouldn't want to watch that if i had the chance before i did.
Snuff-Movie (2005)
Not watchable
Not looking like a really professionally done movie. Everything was bad. Bad acting, bad music, meaningless plot, stupid procession of the plot, if we can call that a plot. Waste of my time and disappointment i would say is my final verdict. Stay away if you value your given time on this earth, you ain't getting it back! Too many things are wrong with this movie. I can't think of one good aspect of it. You don't get it in the end. At least i didn't. And it is also a kind of a copycat of several other related movies, but in a way that does not make any sense at all! I guess it is a talent to do that. I would say do not waste your time like i did, there are many other things a human can do with free time than watch this thing.
