Life Itself (2018)
Its a great piece
The ratings are disappointing, as I felt they should've been higher because of the way everything came together in the end.
The movie shows how our lives can be connected to each others' in some way, even to people from continents away.
It was very emotional and heart felt, full of happy and sad moments, starts very well as well. The soundtracks are perfect for its individual scenes.
The director/writer really did a great job in putting this together and executing it in this manner
A film I'd suggest any and every body to watch!
Citation (2020)
Nothing to be excited about
It's a movie with quite a compelling plot
I understand that the director sets out to draw us in as the movie goes deeper, but he failed at that by adding some unnecessary scenes and dragging some of it which resulted in it being very slow and gradually uninteresting for the most part
You want to like the lead actress and root for her because of her obvious precarious situation, but the acting is not very convincing, nor endearing this failing to make us fully sympathise with her. She doesn't even speak the local language (Yoruba) properly, then why bother?!!
Plot holes are so numerous (I won't mention them, to prevent spoilers), it makes it difficult to watch. The movie is so slow and isn't really captivating
The cinematography was very fine and the location management was just as good, they took some really nice shots. The set decorations and costume design would have been very good too, but for the laughable Merkin-like wig they had the Professor wear (I mean!!)
The movie had a lot of promise, also coming from one of the best directors in Africa, one in whom we'd expect nothing short of quality, but it ended up being below par, and all for 2½ hours? Common!
The Witches (2020)
What a waste of time!
Anne Hathaway is a great actress, one of my favorites but her accents where all over the place, you can barely make any sense of it
All the effects did more harm than good
The story was bland
There's hardly anything to look forward to
A good waste of my time
Living in Bondage: Breaking Free (2019)
One of the best Nollywood movies of the past decade!
I don't think I've seen a Nigerian movie with cinematography this good in recent years
The sound editing as well was clean
The acting? It was top of the notch Erin from Ramsey Nouah, Swanky, and Munachi Abii
The story was quite compelling as well
Why it is rated this low really baffles me
Maybe because of movie runtime of funds available for shooting, but I felt they should have built more on the leading actors Character arc like they did for his father in the first installation
Albeit a very engaging story, it fell off towards the end, this ending was really questionable, maybe rumours of a sequel are true, if not that will be the only real blemish on this magnificent body of work
Òlòturé (2019)
A story told like no other
Sharon Ooja (Oloture) brings her expert acting skills into this one, alongside supporting actress Omowunmi Dada (Linda) who also did a great job. Even though it's not based on true life story, the movie centers around things that happen in our world and gets almost unspoken of daily.
Here, the director Kenneth Gyang doesn't care about personal feelings, but goes straight to give us a raw and unblemished look into this brutal ordeal on human trafficking, while still leaving room for lots of emotions. Pure art and a good premise, as most movies should be.
The summary is these things happen and even if it sucks, that's how life is, this film shows us just that!
My ratings may seem harsh, because I found some terrible plot holes, which would be spoiling it if I discussed them, but I think by international standards, the rating is fine. It's a quality movie, watch it with an open mind.
