Katherine's Lullaby (2020)
Give this a chance
I tried several times to find something to explain what was going on because of the slow pace of the movie. Even with spoilers nothing was given away except that there's a twist. Despite how slow the movie is, give this a chance. I wasn't expecting the twist at all.
The movie gives enough information to explain everything. Very well shot; even the flashbacks. Not so much horror as just suspenseful.
Yes, people do tend to run from one abusive situation to another; however, this is a little different. I was glad to see the characters develop over time. I don't think this was Stockholm Syndrome as defined. This was a choice.
Over all, a great slow burn/pace. Can't really put this as a background movie unless you've seen it before.
The Cleansing (2019)
No historical accuracy
Let's spoil this right off. First, most people in the 14th century could NOT read. This included the priest. Books were NOT plentiful because scribes had to write/copy them. Alice would not have burned the book due to most likely not even knowing what it was nor would her family have owned one.
Second, no one went into plague houses and killed anyone. The people locked themselves in their houses and died. It wasn't until later that people went in and removed the rotting corpses for burning. Monty Python, "Bring out your dead!" This was true.
Third, witches were not persecuted during the plague. Mostly it was the Jews.
Fourth, the bird mask didn't come into being until the 17th century.
Fifth, (and this actually deals with the movie) if the man who was caring for Alice already knew who she was, why did he care for her? Why did he teach her if his plan was to kill her all along? If he was so afraid of the plague, why didn't he check Alice and the guy who showed up? Why did he kill him in such a "ritualistic" way? What was he smoking/eating to have visions? That's not something men would have known as women were the gatherers of the time.
The movie would have been better had the writers stuck to a more historical accuracy. I gave this a 5 as it entertained me, but caused me to really think about how much better it would have been.
It Stains the Sands Red (2016)
Redemption
I thought this was going to be another low-budget time waster, but this was an amazing story of redemption. The character can seem annoying and unlikable; however, give the story some time. Things tend to change.
It can be slow, but stay with it. Even if you're playing on your phone while watching. I was pleasantly surprised not only by the main character, but the "lesser" characters also. Almost a unique use of the zombie that created a dialogue between my son and I regarding the zombie virus and how it affects people. It also shows how people can change in the face of adversity; either for the good or the worse.
Realm of Souls (2013)
I lost IQ points
This is the dumbest movie I've ever just listened to. Hamburger The Motion Picture at least kept me entertained.
