The Naked Road (1959)
A bad film in evey way
Thia film has no redeeming features. The acting is terrible, the small rooms and sets are terrible, the script is terrible, the music is terrible, the plot is terrible, the main english actor is really terrible,.everthing about this film is terrible and really unbelieveable. Please do not be tempted to spend any time seeing, watching or thinking about Naked Road. This ntitle has no connection with the film in any way. The poster for the film is more iteresting than the film ans it illustrates a scene not shown in the film. Many people may snear at British films made at the same time as this U. S. A.film but none are never as bad as Naked Road.
Doctor Faustus (1967)
Yes I with my Girl Friend saw this in 1968
Have just finished watching this stagey film for the second time in 2023 and it now seems even worse than we remember. We went to see it along with others as we admired Burton and thought it would be interesting and well done,it was neither that, then or now. We thought it was a major film,it was advertised as such at the time of its release.
Yes Burton has a fine voice and Taylor looks good and it reminded us of them and the past.
Please do not be tempted to watch it. It is poorly directed dark, wordy, badly acted, except for the devils help mate who does well. Let me not mention the sets, the suposed music often repeated.
Seven Waves Away (1957)
Seen and never ever forgotten
As others have written, an uncomfortable film to watch. Abandon Ship/Seven Waves away shows up all the special effects used in more modern films. The cast of recognisable actors from different British films become characters within the boat and sea, people trapped in endless dangerous situations. I saw this film in Anniesland Glasgow, when it came out, with my mum,I was about 11. Mum liked Tyrone Power and often took me to what were adult films. I remembered it well but could not remember the film's title. I thought it was "Lifeboat"but that, had no connection with the film I had seen years before. Today 1/4/23 "Abandon Ship" was on Talking Pictures TV. Watching it took me back 65 years. My mum and I spoke about it on the bus home as it concerned me,mum said it was not real life.. Tyrone Power portrays a complicated man with some true, fine thoughts and feelings that become twisted and cruel as reality becomes harsher. A fine film not easy to watch, everything about is well done. There are no jokes,no heroics,no bravery, lots of frightening water and actors that become real people.
