Kamikaze (2021)
HBO's first Danish film DIALOG IN DANSK AND ENGLISH
Viewers should KNOW that this powerful and excellent film is presented in Dansk AND starring multi-lingual characters who speak ENGLISH, when it is NECESSARY. For example, as when the handsome young pool contractor (who is a 7 episode, main character from Poland) interacts with the Danish characters. He doesn't speak Dansk...but, many of these characters know English, as do many Europeans nowadays. So, they communicate in English when required WITH the ACCENTS you will hear from English speakers native to Denmark and Poland, just like in the real world! This series is like a free travel trip to Europe and, yes, other continents! If you want to miss out on these beautiful real-world European language interactions...hit the ENGLISH ONLY audio button available on HBO. If, however, you know how to read....then, ENGLISH SPEAKING VIEWERS who wish to capture this film's true, intended value should HIT ONLY the English Subtitle button, not the audio button. Then, they will be able to listen to the musical tones of Dansk (mostly promoting the accents and slang of YOUNG DANISH people) and read important dialog in real-life scenarios. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW BECAUSE some reviewers are reporting that they could only watch it with English dialog, which they thought was distracting to the film. Of course it is distracting! However, HBO does NOT mandate an ENGLISH ONLY viewing. So, where did they get their viewing? How can anyone properly critique a just-released film from an illegal source? They can't! This series is a beautifully portrayed mosaic of the world of a young adult, older teen who is dealing with tragedy in a compelling, profound presentation, which also has its comical moments. Thus far, after two episodes, it is powerful, beautiful, enthralling, filled with critically informative back flashes that kept me on the edge of my seat. To gain a broad spectrum perspective, I asked for reviews from my 14 and 30 year old daughters, without children and my four sons, aged 32 to 45, who have children. THE RESULT FROM THEM: TEN STARS! We can't wait to see the next episodes....something worth watching on Streaming TV!!!
Dune (2021)
NEW DUNE Keeps story alive for new generations!!
FRANK HERBERT'S "DUNE" should never be forgotten. This newest film adaptation does ONE thing pre-eminent: KEEPS THIS GREATEST WORK OF FICTION FRESH AND ALIVE for the newest generations of viewers, who in turn become the newest generations of book owners of Herbert's "DUNE." In the 1980's when my FIVE children were young...I hooked them on reruns of "Dune" and they became readers of Herbert's "Dune." In 2003, they became avid fans of the 3 part mini-series adaptation of Herbert's "Children of Dune." The shorter US release (Canada 2000) was offered on DVD in its full form, which our entire family added to our all-time favorite films. These two adaptations became two of the top three all-time SYFY channels presentations! Throughout the last almost 30 years of adaptations on film of two of Herbert's six novel series of THE CHRONICLES OF DUNE, now my ENTIRE family have discovered the beautiful writing mind of the individual who is considered the most celebrated Science Fiction writer in history--HERBERT. My 14 year old (No. 6) has now become WOKE and joined her FIVE older siblings to celebrate the newest adaptation of "Dune." Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Roth have stirred furiously the minds of this current generation to also FURIOUSLY view and read the creations of HERBERT!
Viewers are encouraged to craft their critiques of Director and Producer Villeneuve's 2012 presentation into historically focused perspectives and celebrate the fantastical UNIVERSE created by HERBERT lives AGAIN!
