Breakdown (1997)
Capitalizes on the sheer evil of Flyover America
You know what I see when I see JT Walsh, Jack Noseworthy, and that other fat, grizzled redneck hellbent on "owning the libs?" I see trump voters. If this movie was remade today, they would be wearing MAGA hats. In fact, this entire movie could be an allegory of modern American politics.
The Twilight Zone: The Wunderkind (2019)
Not a perfect episode, but it works.
The trump analogies can't be ignored, it's the entire point of the episode. And I think they work to show the ridiculousness of both Oliver and trump being president. They're both petulant children who don't know how to run a country.
7 Days in September (2002)
Excellent documentary lays bare the humanity of that fateful day.
Even after 18 years, watching this film brings back all the raw emotion of that day. On 9/11, I was a young Airman, and having just worked a midnight shift, I came home and crawled into bed at 6:45 AM, snuggling up with my wife. A panicked phone call from the wife of a friend and fellow Airman woke me up. She was scared for her husband, who was on base and couldn't leave. I asked why, what was going on? And she said just turn on the TV. I pushed the power button and waited for the tube to warm up. The first image that developed on my screen was Flight 175 slamming into the South Tower. My wife and I were trying for a baby, and I turned to her and said, it's now or never, because I'm about to be gone. We're at war. Our first son was conceived that day.
These attacks were pure evil, but as this film shows, those acts of pure evil were met by an outpouring of humanity, fellowship, and love. It was probably the last time this country was united. Now, under the evil reign of trump, this country is more divided than ever. I long for those days of unity.
